Everything was great. The service was friendly, helpful with recommendations, and the food + cocktails were outstanding. Was not expecting it to be that good, but pleasantly surprised and will be back again!
Everything was fine. We both felt the food was note as good as last time.
Nice ambiance. Food was tasty, especially the fried chicken, Mac & cheese with a kick & yummy collard greens. Attractive crowd too
Great food as usual....woohoo... We were happy we had reservations because the place was full. The only negative we have is that the staff and valet were not equipped to handle a large crowd. It was awkward at the check in which left us standing unsure of who if anyone was seating us.... After we were seated, we had to summon a server who was not assigned to our table to take our order. She kindly took great care of us even though it was not her table.
Thinking the staff should wear some type of distinguishing uniform as the host had on athletic wear and a cap and someone asked if we had our drinks who had on a red jogging suit and cap.. We would not have thought either of these individuals were associated with the restaurant.
The sound level is horrendous and the hosting checkin process was chaotic on our recent Friday visit.
Can't wait to come back and further support this gem! Oxtail was great. Mac and Cheese was fantastic. Great cocktail list as well!
Our reservation said for patio. When we got there they asked what we wanted and said they had to put some tables together for patio. Waited 20 min for them to do so. Service needs help. Food is good.
A wonderful experience. Spectacular in every sense. Chef came over to check in with us during the meal, and we couldn't stop filling our mouths to properly tell him how great the experience was. No restaurant in LA feels as good as this one.
The hostess and wait staff were attentive and pleasant. The food was outstanding--traditional with a modern, creative twist. Love the wood, the varied fabrics on the pillows and the beautiful interesting photos.
Unbelievably delicious and friendly and can’t wait to return
My fiancé and and I went for a New Years Eve dinner. We had a complete meal. For starters we had the Cornbread with Honey Butter and Black Eyed Pea Fritters. Our main dishes were Mac n Cheese, Fried Chicken and Smothered Steak.
Their food is delicious! Had dinner with a group of 6. We had appetizers, main entrees & dessert. Everything including the service was great. Can’t wait to try their brunch which they serve until 2:30pm.
Nothing stood out, and the flavors were underwhelming. Maybe it gets better at dinner, but the brunch did not impress.
Great food and experience!
Food was on point. I particularly enjoyed the shrimp and grits and collard greens salad. I haven’t had collard greens prepared this way before. The greens were thinly sliced with some thinly sliced carrots, radishes and topped with peanuts.
Was a treat to go today and Chef Carla Hall added her own dishes to the menu like chicken pot pie over a cornbread biscuit. She came out to talk to the patrons and advised us what to get. We had a full table of delicious dishes.
Our waiter was great and friendly. Minus a star for the hostess that didn’t really smile and looked like we were nothing her. Maybe she was having a bad day but as the first face you see when entering a restaurant, she didn’t look happy to see us.
Great food, great service. Highly recommend!
Celebrating a friend’s birthday. Had a blast! Began with happy hour where the bartender selected our beverages which were all great than had a wonderful dining experience. Everything we had was delicious. Collard greens, shrimp and grits, bbq cauliflower, cornbread, and red beans and rice. The food was so tasty there was no room left for dessert.
The food was good and solid but wasn't really wow'ed by any of the dishes. The shrimp and grits were really good. The cocktails were really good.
Food was fantastic. Service was slow, but manager was very compassionate and understanding.
Excellent all around. Great food attentive service.
They had run out of 3-4 of their best dishes by 8:30pm. Bummer
I had a good first impression. Vanessa was attentive and pleasant and most of all she seemed to know the menu and was helpful in making our choices.
Expoing could be tightened up and the floor manager or shift leader can engage customers and make them feel like you care about their dining experience .
Thank you for the good time!!!
Service was pretty bad. They were packed on a Tuesday which was good for them, but we didn’t get one dish, our drinks that were ordered first came out after our food and only when we asked about them, I had to ask several times for my water, we were never checked on and never even asked if we wanted dessert until after we asked. We even asked our server to check on us and he actually never did again. I really wanted to like this place. Food was ok a bit overpriced. And drinks were fine.
What a disappointment. Two biggest issues: kitchen really really slow and food was mediocre.
I think this place suffers from a hype problem. Recently named as one of the best new restaurants in the LA Times and one of the best new restaurants in the country by GQ, our expectations were pretty high going in. The outdoor seating area was really pretty but the food was just average considering the prices. The deviled eggs weren’t bad but just not to our taste as a group (without any of the sweet tartness that you might expect) but the cornbread was delicious. The fitters were just okay but didn’t seem very special. Most of us ordered the fried chicken (our server told us it’s the best in LA) but again we were underwhelmed. The seasoning was lacking but it was fried well and not greasy. All of the sides we ordered came out sporadically at temperatures not-quite-hot (they were super busy which is probably why). The green beans in spicy tomato sauce was the most disappointing. The Mac and Cheese was the best side we ordered. If you go you must order the vanilla ice cream for desert. The cocktails were also very good. In the future I would come here for drinks and a cornbread/ice cream duo and if I was really hungry I would order the Mac and Cheese. Our group may have enjoyed the experience more if not for all the “best of” hype going in.
the food was not good. The only dishes we enjoyed were the salads, the corn bread, and the deviled eggs.
A little backed up at the bar but overall it was a great experience! The food was amazing and as a southern woman, I was a little skeptic at first. The evening ended up being very pleasant and we will be back! Only 2 cents of advice I can give is to tone it down on the excess ingredients for the cocktail menu. Mainly because the food already shines so brightly! No need to over do it haha
Alta Adams is a wonderful venue for one, two three, four or more. The food is adventurous and traditional at the same time and the drinks are sublime. I have eaten here three times and each time enjoyed the meal and the place and the style. Key wonderful dishes include the Mac and Cheese (best ever), red rice and beans (totally the real deal), pork chop with chow chow (a great and smoky pork chop), corn bread (light), shrimp and grits (amazing); there really is nothing I would not recommend. But...the food on our last trip was heavily over-salted and the noise is excruciating when the place is full. Hopefully the former is not an indication that the kitchen is losing its touch. Still, for a great take on soul food and atmosphere, this is the place.
Loved the service from Ruby and staff. The food was excellent. Cornbread and Avocado Toast as starters. Shrimp and Grits, Fried Chicken, Cornmeal Pancakes were delicious. Biscuits and Gravy, and scrambled eggs with potatoes were a hit. We will definitely return with other friends soon.
Alta was alright. When we walked in there was a work laptop and notebooks and office supplies taking up one of the main tables. Not really a good first impression. On top of that, the hostess was nowhere to be found while the other staff was chatting away with each other. The hostess ended up being our waitress and she was nice but she wasn’t very hospitable. For the money I really expected this place to be way different. I ordered the $18 BBQ cauliflower, which is a head of cauliflower that just comes smothered in basic BBQ sauce. It was pretty bland and didn’t knock anything out of the ballpark. The fried chicken was good but not worth $26. The cocktails, however, were great. The only redeeming quality about this place, really. Over $100 something dollars later, I left sorely disappointed and did not feel it was worth it from the service down to the food. It was just an odd experience overall.
Thank you so much for sharing this feedback! We're very sorry to hear of this experience and would greatly appreciate the opportunity to redeem ourselves. We take full responsibility and are confident we can do better.
Food was pretty good but the service was very slow and all the people who work there seemed confused
Good food, fun place.
I've been for dinner and drinks at the bar. The food is really good, but some entrees may be a bit overpriced. The specialty cocktails are intricate, but you're better off ordering your "go-to drinks" for the prices. I'll definitely go again.
The best fried chicken in LA along with sides right out of a soul food-southern tradition. The lay out Of this West Adams area restaurant is great for small parties or couples
What a fantastic restaurant!! Awesome on so many levels.
Every single bite was great. Well thought out food and not super heavy after. Had a vegetarian meal, with a couple drinks for $100. Pretty great. Great neighborhood feel, just a little loud but no big deal. Wait staff was short staffed but food flew out in good time, waitress was super pleasant but could tell she was getting busier and would have been nice to get a little more attention, ask if we wanted drinks, fill water, etc. don’t think I saw one busboy, so they were handling themselves. Still very great experience and we’re coming back soon.
The food tasted good. A bit spicy for my tastes. Great service, quiet, lovely decoration. Also not enough choices on the menu. Hopefully they will continue he to add more options.
The restaurant doesn’t seem to be in complete Flow I found the energy of the place not very pleasant there was no host when we got there it took forever to get a seat Waitress forgot our order twice
I would recommend Alta Adams at least once. There wasn’t anything on the menu I would have to return for. The sweet potato side dish was not available. The corn bread wasn’t that great. The coffee was too strong and was not hot.
The black eyed fritters , oxtail and coconut cake were delicious.
Awesome!! Food and ambiance was amazing.
