Chef Sheila Bryson is bringing Alma to North Scottsdale, taking over the old Preston's spot. With 3 bars, including 2 lounges, Alma has an open-concept flow, lending itself to casual gatherings, date nights, private events, business dinners, or just a typical night out. Located inside Alma is a high-end women's boutique, "Barbwire Western Couture". Alma is joining the Citadel next to our sister restaurant, "Little Snitch". Opening day is November 2nd

We were regulars at the “old” AMA. This was our 1st trip to their new location. The waitstaff were very pleasant but inept. The kitchen was unbelievably slow. There were 4 of us. 3 ordered meat dishes, 1 ordered fish. It took the kitchen way too long to get the good out of our server kept telling us it would arrive shortly. When the food arrived only 3 of 4 orders were served. The fish, which should cook the fastest, wasn’t there. Again we were told it would be served shortly. We asked for steak knives 3 times before we got them. I had lamb chops medium rare. One was properly cooked, the other was almost raw. Needless to say, we were all disappointed.

Alma just opened this week, so we were expecting that they’re still working some of the kinks out. Service was pretty good, food was good but most dishes had too much spice in it for me. Great cocktail menu and wine list.

My rating is a 5. So....here we go. Let's be fair. Alma is a huge restaurant that Sheila took on. There is plenty of wait staff and they are being trained. And..they have only been open less than a week. The food was great. I ordered the halibut and was nervous. It is a fish that is tough to get right. It came out piping hot and was wonderful. The rest of our party enjoyed their meals. The staff works hard and thanked us for our patience. I have read a lot of comments about the "service". In my opinion it was just fine. I think the issue is the menu is a bit complex for the kitchen and the kitchen is learning. The only negative I have was the music in the main dining room. It was so loud and intrusive it was hard to hear each other talking. I get the vibe that is desired but just keep it instrumental and lower the volume. I am not dinging you on that but please address it. I would say this...we are lucky Sheila has taken this one on. In short order all will work quite well. PS...don't tank this new venture...give it time...like a fine wine LOL.

The restaurant is beautiful. It was very loud with the music. The problem was our table of 2 was not getting much needed attention. We sat and sat waiting an hour for our main course. I finally got the servers attention that we have been waiting way too long. Finally the fish arrived cold and not at all edible. At that point we paid and left

Yes, I definitely recommend going.....but....Alma is on its way to be a great neighborhood restaurant and a destination for some. The new decor gives off high end Santa fe vibes, the family style porterhouse steak was over cooked, but still delicious. We had a very nice very young waiter that is learning how to speak to adults, he ll get there, and did not know his menu, the specialty cocktails, or wine. He needed to consistently bring in back up to answer questions. I truly want this restaurant to rock and succeed and become the new over 40 let's go sit on the roof top listen to some good music, awesome views, great food, and servers who "know" their crowd as they say. Upstairs bar tender can I recommend you get off your phone and act like you want to be there. Alma management pay a little more to get the servers that know what they are doing, Scottsdale patrons, are needy and picky. Good luck we want you to be the best in the neighborhood, because you have quite the company to compete with.

Great new addition the the neighborhood. Nothing like it! Flavorful food and to be only open a week service was great! Ask for Lorenzo at the bar!

An amazing addition to the region! First time in was very impressive; the multiple areas within the restaurant each with their own sub-ambience, and the food and drinks were excellent! Great place for Weekday dining as well as the obvious Weekends. Definitely added to our regular rotations. Nice job to the Team that made this new place happen!
