Dine for breakfast, lunch, pre-theatre or dinner and experience inspiring Melbourne dining.
An iconic Melbourne stroll down Flinders Lane leads you to the entrance of our Alluvial Restaurant. The beautiful glass atrium is the perfect setting to try our international breakfast, seasonal lunch menu or sophisticated evening menu with a perfectly paired wine list.
Alluvial Restaurant is named after Alluvial gold deposits in honour of the gold rush, when Melbourne was the richest city in the world. Alluvial means unconsolidated soil or sediment that has been eroded, reshaped by water, playing homage to Melbourne’s gold rush.
Sample modern Melbourne cuisine with the best local produce and flavours Melbourne has to offer, within a luxury Melbourne landmark.
Service was particularly attentive and our party of six adults and six children were made to feel welcome. Our vegan and dairy-free people’s requirements were amicably catered to.
Very attentive and polished service, with lovely canapés, and excellent new cocktails.
My daughter and I enjoyed the delicious Harry Potter pre theatre menu . Looked and tasted amazing!
My mum and I had a delightful high tea at Alluvial. The service was impeccable from the get go - a lovely welcome and introduction from our waitress including instructions for the deconstructed champagne cocktail which was delicious. The savouries, main meal, scones and desserts were all delicious and very filling. This is definitely equivalent to a lunch rather than a small afternoon tea. It’s a beautiful space and a lot of care has clearly gone into the menu and presentation. Beautiful for a special occasion (as it’s not cheap, but it is good value), would highly recommend!
Staff very informative, food enjoyable lacked wow factor ,sad to see the venue wasn't busy,
is that normal? Overall we did have a pleasant afternoon.
Such a delightful venue, and excellent food. The staff went out of their way to look after us and make this such a special day. Thank you!
Booked a table. Waved for service but staff just pottered cleaning tables in their own world. 45 min later requested a coffee. The waitress asked if we were having breakfast and we said no (based on lack of service) and just wanted a coffee. It all seemed too difficult to explain or expect. Very disappointed as there were hardly any customers either.
We really enjoyed our visit to Alluvial. Beautiful atmosphere and very friendly, helpful staff. We went for the Theatrical Pre-Theatre, Harry Potter themed dining experience, but there was a mix up with our booking. Making a reservation online didn't seem to inform them we wanted the Harry Potter dinner so the kitchen was unprepared for us. However they were very happy to still make it happen, it just meant waiting 10-15 minutes longer which was not a problem at all. And it was absolutely worth it! The meal was delicious from start to finish and such fun, with the smoke under the cloche for our main and the melting of the chocolate orb for dessert. If you're a Harry Potter fan, I definitely recommend this experience while it's available. We're very, very appreciative of the staff who were willing to still make our night happen as planned. It was brilliant.
What an experience loved everything about the place. The service was excellent food was fabulous. Totally enjoyed the whole experience 👏👏
Has a mouse walking around when we have our valentine's dinner. How is this possible?
A lovely romantic Valentine’s Day dinner.
Beautiful surroundings, nice tables restful and calming to be in, great service attention, meals came out very quickly. Would like to see a few more choices on the menu but the food that was served was excellent.
The lady serving in the bar provided excellent service throughout. Every time I have been there she has been so customer oriented. Additionally, seating in the restaurant was comfortable and the food was very tasty.
Loved it all, all the staff were exceptional, especially the lady who served us for high tea
Will be back,
The 4 course was amazing, wine, etc.... loved the vanilla&berry tea
The setting of the restuarant, surrounding was lovely, relaxing perfect for an lazy sunday afternoon high tea.
Well-served, well-cooked, and a little mistakably twisted. Loved it, anyway.
Spent our anniversary at Alluvial, and it was probably one of the best restaurants we have been to. Food was exceptional, especially the beef sirloin. Services was in high quality. Atmosphere was so romanatic, if you are looking for a quiet place to dine with your love ones, this place is a star. Compared to other $$$$restaurant, I would say Alluvial is very high value of cost.
Quite a find. The impeccable service was unassuming- a rarity to find nowadays. Best poached eggs I have had in a long, long while. This is one of those establishment that no one would tire of visiting. Outstanding!
45 mins wait for food and when I asked waiter she said another five minutes, then food came out after 10 mins so totally 55 mins wait, people came after us they served in 15 mins, how does that work? And there are only 4 table full not busy at all, what a joke Quantity is too less according to price, poor service, ruin my first date
My wife and I very much enjoyed everything about this restaurant. Staff were fantastic; meals delicious; quiet and enjoyable atmosphere. A great place to go.
Celebrated our 45th. Anniversary with high tea at the “Clarke sisters” and I have to say it was absolutely delightful, from the champagne cocktail to all the different dishes that were brought out, could not fault anything. Had a delightful waiter (Gary) attend to our needs, who explained everything very specifically and basically all the staff were super friendly. Have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone.
There were few guests and not having been to the Rialto for many years I was shocked by how scruffy it looked. The blonde leather chairs in the bar are had tears and the floor was scuffed. There were artificial flowers and the glorious cobblestones had been covered over. That being said the young maitre’d was lovely and the wait staff efficient and self-effacing. So I do hope the streetscape can be restored bringing the singular atmosphere back.
Fantastic service with very attentive staff, and excellent food. An overall great experience!
My first ever experience at Alluvial was amazing. I experienced the Clarke Sisters High Tea with two friends for my birthday and thought the entire setup of the High Tea was unique and memorable. The service was attentive - Garrick was a superstar and very sweet bringing me a special dessert to celebrate my birthday. Could not recommend highly enough to anyone else.
I had a birthday dinner here on a monday night. The restaurant was quiet, and the staff was extremely patient and accomodating. Great service and great food. Very romantic ambience and setting. Highly recommended for special occasions and date nights!
My experience was offset by being stood up by my date, but I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner. I was surprised by the cost of the sparkling water I was offered though. Will definitely go back.
Fantastic food and the service was impeccable. We felt very well looked after :)
As my wife and I were one of three tables occupied, the ambience wasn’t one that you’d go back for. The waitress did her best to keep our glasses full.
When the food arrived, it looked well cooked, however the mash that my wife had was like soup and cold, the meat was cooked well and just warm. My meal was supposed to be accompanied with truss tomatoes, only one on the plate mmmmmmm. The side dish of broccolini didn’t take long to go cold.
The desserts were as described on the menu and very tasty.
Would probably look elsewhere in the future.
I have experienced many high teas and this would be the worst. Sitting at a table that is just an add-on area to the main dining, absolutely no soul or ambiance. The table almost adjoining had a cloth and remained unset which gives the feeling we are just a limb on a tree. Food - terrible. The roll with the crab - the roll completely overwhelmed the filling. Bagel almost indigestible. Chicken sandwich - just one tiny finger of bread with a peel of cucumber with something under it to keep the cucumber from falling off. Not a sandwich. Where were the chicken and cucumber sandwiches. Beef and cheese and chutney was the other option. Dessert trolley - was made to feel you could not have more than one slice. Why not have a mini taste selection rather than large slices. There was just one piece of food per person per level where other experiences offer multiple choices per level. Value for money 0.
Loved the ceremony of the high tea and lovely group at next table. Was very full when we left. Scones were sensational.
We decided to celebrate Mother's Day at Alluvial and had the most wonderful time. The staff and service were exceptional. The restaurant has a lovely ambiance and the food was superb. We would highly recommend this venue and will definitely go there again.
We were very happy with the service, when we needed something someone was there to serve us, but the wait staff were not in our faces and left us to talk and enjoy the lovely food.
We loved that the service was almost one on one because there weren't many people dining.
It was a beautiful Mothers Day experience!
The Clark Sisters High Tea was amazing! Brilliant, friendly service, and incredibly delicious food in abundance with a wide variety of tastes to please all! My mum had a wonderful birthday! Thank you!
From the moment we arrived we were made feel special. We have been to many of Melbourne's finest high teas and Clarke Sisters Tea Party is in a league of its own.
Service was impeccable and the food was delectable. The only suggestion we had is that the beef/cheese ribbon sandwich lets down the quality of everything else.
We will most definitely be returning
The food was great overall ; everyone had polished their plates! The only feedback is that there appears to be a very limited selection of vegetarian/vegan dishes available on the menu.
Amazing decor and atmosphere, view from entrance was grandiose. Service was prompt and very friendly. Background music was kept at perfect level without drowning out conversation. Food was great quality and cooked to the requested specs. Overall highly recommended
There was not many choices. The food was tasty and very pricey. Proffered more choices. did not have the wow factor
The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The room has quite a nice atmosphere (love how high the roof is). The high tea in general was okay, but I have been to a few now and this one could have been a bit nicer presentation-wise. Table had marks all over it. A tablecloth would have been perfect.
We (4) went for high coffee for a birthday and were very disappointed. I was particularly disappointed by the experience given the cost ($75pp). This was the only celebration we had for the birthday. I have been to high tea at other hotels in the past and never had a bad experience. I will not be returning here.
Espresso martinis were very good, as were the scones (especially lemon curd).
The service was not good, dietary requirements and the birthday occasion which were submitted with the booking two weeks in advance were not mentioned by any staff member. Our table was small and the waiter did not take away dirty plates without our request, even then he would only take one away and leave the rest on the table. When we asked for clean plates and knives when swapping to sweets he only brought a clean plate for one person at the table and we had to ask another waiter for more clean plates and cutlery. Tea was served in cracked teapots and made from tea bags. The chicken sandwiches only had one small piece of chicken that only covered 1/3 of the size of the bread. Savouries came out tepid/cold, definitely not hot enough to meet safe food service requirements. The pastries, e.g. puff pastry, quiche, macaron, tart shells, were soggy. We went on a hot day and it was particularly hot inside where we were sitting in the back half of the seating area, we could not feel any breeze/fan/aircon. Overall the experience was disappointing given the price paid.
Good food but not much of it compared to other venues. Wait staff good but manager hovering, glancing at us like he wanted our table and getting wait staff to make up tables as soon as people leaving. Attending for a high tea but staff clearing away tea cups etc.when we had a coffee was not necessary but did discourage us from having tea later on. Not value for money. Much better at the Windsor.
Good food in a beautiful setting in the city but a bit costly for a buffet breakfast that can be found at a cheaper price in other locations.
