Staff were great and very attentive, food was very good. However, the high tea is not very traditional which I was a bit disappointed about, but that's personal preference. For the staff and quality of food I would go back any day.
Everything was perfect. Highly recommend. Only one issue which needs to be sorted for future bookings. When I booked online, I had the option to select the Valentines Day Dinner Package OR just do A La Carte. I opted for A La Carte. When I arrived at the restaurant, A La Carte was not an option. With my wife having various intolerances and myself being pescatarian, we were limited to only the Valentines package. So we had no choice but to make alterations to the set menu. Maybe next time you have a special dinner package, make sure the E-commerce side of things match your offerings and is consistent. Please make sure your third party booking system is clear and updated and all channels are covered.
My husband & I recently dined at Alluvial restaurant. Upon arrival (via google maps) the entrance was closed telling us to go another way. When you aren’t familiar with this area, this can be off-putting. The maître D was lovely. Our table was well located not directly next to others. The 4 course meal with wine paring was a nice idea. However I didn’t think it was a good idea to serve the champagne upon arrival, followed instantly by the Pino Grigio & started. Felt like we were being rushed along from the start. Would have liked more of a break between courses. The starter also didn’t really appeal, compared to the other 3 courses. All in all it was a lovely experience. I did like that the wines offered were Australian wines.
I took a girlfriend for her birthday, we were both surprised as it exceeded our expectations. The food was lovely and beautifully presented even a Happy Birthday decorated plate was brought to the table which was a lovely touch. Having a small main was such a surprise and absolutely delicious you wanted to lick the plate, but we didn't. The staff were amazing explaining everything and helping us to make the deconstructed champagne cocktail. Jasmina was our waitress and she was brilliant and certainly knew all the food, she helped make the day brilliant. I will certainly look for an occasion so i can revisit and experience this again. It would be the best High Tea i have been to. Can't fault anything, simply brilliant.
We were celebrating our daughter returning to London after a months visit
We wanted somewhere very special & we were all delighted with Alluvial. Loved thedeconstructed cocktail to begin. The savoury food was fantastic but by far the favourite was the cutlet & truffle mash!!
We will definitely return at a future date. Many thanks for a lovely experience
You don't often find somewhere that ticks all the boxes but this was the case here. Perfect in every way
Celebrated a birthday with the Clark sisters afternoon tea. A very enjoyable time, we would go again
We went here during the Harry Potter production and enjoyed the meals they had created for a Harry Potter experience. It was a magical meal - even if you're not a Harry Potter fan. The meals were delicious and they had great choices to select from. The meals looked amazing and tasted just as good! Our server was also very helpful and made sure to check in on us throughout our experience. A beautiful place to visit and a place I would highly recommend visiting :)
Great service food was tasty and a great selection from the menu considering it was New Year's Eve.
Pricing faur and reasonable for New Year's Eve would definitely visit again.
Lovely Christmas meal with a more British flavour. Service was excellent. Only very minor criticism was that main course was a bit lacking on potatoes and vegetables. Desserts buffet however was outstanding. Would definitely recommend as it is a lovely venue.
Great food, generous with the bottomless champagne, beautiful venue but what really made our experience extra special was the amazing hostess who looked after us!
The choice on your menu is rather limited. When going to Alluvial for the second time (because of convenience of location) half the party was at a loss on what to order. Disappointing.
LOVED IT! THE FOOD WAS FABULOUS AND SERVICE BRILLIANT.
The best restaurant I've been to in a long time. Everything about it was outstanding, but I'd particularly like to mention the staff. They were friendly, informative, and professional (but not stand-off-ish). Very, very happy.
excellent service, well presented and tasteful servings, great wine.
Food service was slow and went for Harry Potter experience but the theatrics weren’t there. Ordered beef rare and was medium. Struggled to get our water refilled etc. Wasn’t that busy but staff were definitely struggling
This was the most beautiful amazing experience l have had ... staff were friendly and helpful. Food was out if this world
Fantastic high tea great service.
We loved the experience that was made from the tea party, wonderful service and amazing food.
Amazing experience, my date and I enjoyed our experience
Omg the food was amazing. We went for the Harry Potter dinner with main and dessert. The steak was to die for. I am usually a chicken person but loved the steak. The brownie cup was amazing too.
The staff was excellent. They were friendly and helpful. My experience for dinner exceeded my expectations. I would totally recommend going to harry potter show then dinner. The food and the staff was a highlight for me and recommended to others going to the show to dine at Alluvial.
Scheduled breakfast business meeting, as outside guests of the Hotel, only to be greeted with grimaces and confusion. Felt awkward and uncomfortable.
On arrival was shown to a table with one seat straddling 2 cushions - uncomfortable to say the least. Sandwiches bland. Lamb cooked to perfection. No fruit scones served up as per the menu. Advised staff who blamed the waiter. Then had the fruit scones served. However, scones a total disappointment as being small, tasteless and very crumbly. Cake selection a total disappointment as the eclair was obviously not fresh, was hard and chocolate no taste. Too many tartlets with different fillings which made for a very boring selection. Staff great but the standard of food did not make up for the cheery staff who tried their best with what came out of the kitchen. This was a total disappointment from a world renowned hotel and by far the worst high tea we have had in our lives.
Each time we have been there we haven't been disappointed. Love the place and staff..thank you and see you again soon
Fantastic pre-theatre menu with fantastic service and good pricing. Will definitely be back.
Being named Clarke made the Clarke Sister's High Tea a must for my daughter's birthday. It was a fabulous afternoon made more special by the expert staff who performed to their usual high standards, and the story behind the high tea. It made for a memorable celebration. We will always look for opportunities to return to Alluvial whenever the Inter Continental puts on another if it's event dining experiences.
Alluvial is set in a lovely building with a huge, sunlit atrium. They've great staff who are incredibly friendly and very helpful. We sat in for a very quiet and intimate high tea. The food itself was average - pate was divine; sandwiches didn't seem all that fresh because the bread felt soggy but almost chewy; mains were nice but nothing to write home about; dessert table was fun and full of options.
All in all, it was nice enough, but for the price, I think there are better options.
Service from Gary was great...found the pastries/desserts the let down. Pastry around the mini desserts was soggy and soft....looked and tasted like they had sat in a fridge for a week. Expected better quality from the 'star' of the show.
What a great way to kick off our Hary Potter experience. The pre-theatrical dinner was delicious, quick and great service. Thank you
The food and service was exceptional.
Unfortunately, we had believed we had booked the high tea. We followed a link from a review page that described only the high tea, and made the booking through open table.
On arrival, we were informed that the high tea only happens on weekends.
Believing that we had booked a high tea, we were very disappointed.
Overall very good.
Food was pre prepped so some items like the duck liver pate were dry around the edges on the bread but still very tasty!
Great atmosphere with very reasonable price. Except there were a group of reckless people having high-tea kind of thing and speaks quite loudly. Before and after they were there, it was the greatest dining experience I have ever had.
Food was terrific and service was outstanding; helpful, friendly but professional. Ambience is good in that the Intercontinental provides a stunning backdrop for the restaurant and it is quiet; tables are well spaced and you can genuinely enjoy a conversation without straining over loud piped music and have a laugh without feeling that you are imposing on the adjoining tables' enjoyment. Only minor negative was that it was a bit chilly. It is indeed a very big space and perhaps it is a challenge to heat effectively but our group certainly needed to keep jackets/cardigans on.
Lovely evening though.
We had a lovely experience ordering the Harry Potter Menu... really magical, we went back a couple of nights later to do it all over again.... service is absolutely outstanding and the food came out hot and on time... we will be back if we come back to Melbourne again.... the cocktails are lovely too....
Our party had the Harry Potter pre-theatre menu in between Parts 1 & 2 of the play. The food was lovely and the themed meal added to our whole theatre experience. It is a short tram ride from the theatre, we booked the earliest 5.30 pre-theatre time slot & made it back just in time for the start of part 2.
Our group were delighted with our wonderful afternoon at Alluvial. Everything was perfect.
Steak was tough and grizzle ++. In spite of telling them we are going to theatre to see Harry Potter, the service was poor and had to leave before finishing the dinner. When I reminded the waiter about the coffees which we ordered over 15 minutes beforehand, he then went to put the order. We had to leave and we just made in time.
We really enjoyed our high tea experience the food was good the staff were excellent and we were not rushed .enjoyed our champagne cocktail that was a little fun to begin with. The interior of the building is very interesting to look at.
Service was particularly attentive and our party of six adults and six children were made to feel welcome. Our vegan and dairy-free people’s requirements were amicably catered to.
Very attentive and polished service, with lovely canapés, and excellent new cocktails.
