With a temperature controlled wine cellar and room for 50 guests, it’s the ideal space for private events or for savouring a rare wine from our extensive cellar list.
This is the second time I’ve been back to Agostino. I really wanted to like it because it’s a good-looking place, convenient and cosy. However, the service is turnstile, rushed and not very hospitable. The food, aside from the fried anchovy fingers, is quite ordinary. Not a fan and no third chances, unfortunately.
Exceptional Italian Food - thought I was back in one of those modern Enoteca’s in Italy
After being seated it took an overly long time to order. Pasta was the wrong side of al dente and portion sizes are very small given the price. Overall food was good but over priced, service lacking, felt as if we were being ignored, difficult to get attention.
Classic Italian menu with a quite modern feel, good flavours and well priced. Pasta a tiny bit too al dente for our palates. Service good considering there was a small team of 2 working to look after the fully booked room but it was a public holiday. Excellent wine list.
Attractive Lygon st Italian with nice surrounds. Menu had many options. On the pricey side, perhaps a little overpriced but all meals were very nice.
Had to ask several times for wine topups and water.
Delicious 2 course menu which includes a glass of wine.
Needed a desert though as quite small servings.
My desert was fab but my colleagues Tiramisu more like an afternoon cake.
A great restaurant - well located with excellent food and staff. A great additional option to dining out in Carlton!
Lovely modern design but not all steel and glass, so a warmth in tones, to give the area some intimacy.
Young waitress was lovely and attentive with a smile and efficient professionalism.
Food was very nice. My fettucine was lovely, but the simple cacio e pepe was not as creamy as i was expecting, in that there was a lot of melted butter pooling, and not coating the pasta in a way that gave the creaminess, also would have liked more black pepper on that dish. Black trevally was delicious and my friend's main was very nice too. Ice cream dessert shared was lovely, but the standout for me was the delicious nobbly crunchy shortbread style biscotti with a citrus tinge?? should have saved some for the espresso, which was also delicious.
We had looked forward to this lunch as a birthday lunch and it was lovely.
Some small suggestions/feedback----, we got two super mini pieces of ciabatta (how did they make that loaf so small?) and had to keep asking for an extra slice, the first mini single slice went as a mouthful to try on being seated, with our pre lunch prosecco, --but we needed more with the mains, to mop up etc. If you advertise as Italian in quality and spirit, then please be a little bit more generous with the bread to accompany the meal, as it is done in Italy. Also, as we ordered a pre lunch drink, if not keen to give bread, then a few olives or nuts with the drink, as they do in Italy, would be a nice touch. Something simple like that gives a generosity to the approach to meal, without diners having to think 'oh i wish i had something to nibble on, without ordering a separate plate of something'......
The service at Agostino was excellent. The food was very good - delicate and flavoursome. The wine list is outstanding. Well worth the visit. Recommended.
Entrees - roast cabbage and anchovy nduja sandwich were both excellent.
Mains - wagyu beef was excellent, but veal cutlet saltimbocca was almost raw and had to be sent back.
Service and ambience were great.
Great selection of wine and other drinks.
Gorgeous restaurant with delicious food and excellent service. Would recommend the ravioli and the wagyu steak.
While Agostino served quite good food, the toilets needed attention at the beginning of the evening, and the table next to use was super - loud and needed management .
Fantastic pasta, great wine, great vibe!
Wonderful interior and a great addition to Carlton....food is amazing and we love the seasonal changing menu
Such a lovely venue - feels casual but the service is classy. Food was delicious. Loved the gnocchi. We will definitely be back.
Nice space, lighting and general ambiance. The waiter was unfriendly and a poor communicator. Service generally was slow and we had to ask for bread. Food was ok but didn’t meet our expectations.
great venue and good food with great wine selection and sommelier
Great vibe but we were seated down in the cellar and there weren’t enough staff down there to cater to all the tables. So service very slow and staff rushed off their feet. More service staff required.
Food was delicious. Fabulous service and warm cosy atmosphere. Would definitely go back!
Although not busy service was on the slow side. Coffees left on counter when made and we had to ask them to be brought to table. Sommelier was most helpful.
Thank you to the staff who were very accommodating by changing our group to a bigger table downstairs due to an additional guest arriving without notice!
A good light lunch. Well presented and served promptly
Amazing venue. Good was incredible and the wine list is off the charts.
Perfect venue from start to finish with a drink upstairs followed by dinner, couldn’t fit the gelato in though 😀
A pleasure to dine in an intimate restaurant without too much noise. The skilled staff made the art of hospitality appear easy and inconspicuous. Can’t wait to return!
Relatively new to Lygon Street, this is a great little eatery. The food is simple yet elegant and the wine selection is first class.
Great food and wine and ambiance. Definitely a great wine bar and restaurant. Not your typical Lygon Street restaurant for tourists and one I’d go back to over and over again.
It was an amazing experience. The wine I had was wonderful. The service was swift and excellent. It is pricey but as a special treat well worth it. Highly recommended
Beautiful table in the cellar just for two and was a perfect night.
With abundance of restaurants - service is most important. No doubt it was not problematic, attention to table was poor and had a person who served us the first drink who was behind the bar could not speak nor could we understand her English. Toilets said were downstairs. Food was fine but not a WOW. Would I recommend - don't know
It's a limited menu which in itself is not a bad thing but I wonder how often it is changed. I went for lunch then 2 weeks later dinner and the menu was the same and even the specials were virtually the same.
Food, drinks, staff and atmosphere were terrific. Will definitely be back.
Had a girlie catch up with a friend. And the service was very prompt. And the food came out pretty quick. I ordered a cup of tea and didn't realize that you don't serve tea. But the lady who served me was so kind enough to get me one and was very impress. Will definitely be back. Maybe bring another pasta dish to the menu. eg: Matriciana.
Excellent Italian-inspired menu and sensational wine list. Service is impeccable - friendly and informed. The space is funky but comfortable and suitable for any occasion.
Very good but not exceptional.
It is nice to see that Lygon street is returning or at least trying to reinstate it's Italian heritage.
I have been in most restaurants on Lygon and I have almost always been disappointed with the food, thanks God Agostino wasn't in that group.
I thought the food was quite good, good ingredients and with an understanding of Italian cooking at heart.
My only negative note is in regards to spacing between tables, Agostino as every other Italian restaurant (why??) has tables really close to each other and personally is a pet hate of mine, I like to have a chat with the persons I am dining with without having to involuntarily have to listen to everyone else around me.
All together it was a good experience, and as mentioned earlier a very good addition to the Carlton Italian food heritage.
Loved the space and the food was great, but for a fine dining experience and price, the service was indifferent. Highly recommend as a destination with rooftop and more, but Id like a bit more attention to service and friendliness to match the rest.
I inquired before making the booking to ensure that there would be adequate Gluten Free and Vegetarian options. I was assured that there would be however unfortunately this was not the case. When ordering dessert i was told that there was no GF options on the menu for dessert at all. A little disappointing considering we were there for a birthday celebration.
The food that I did eat was lovely.
The food was exceptional. Cannot fault it. Complete let down with the service. We had to wait for 45 minutes to get our drinks (we had to ask the waiter twice). They also forgot one of our entrees, which they had to be reminded of, we eventually go it (they kindly removed it of bill, free of charge).
Our waiter was fantastic snd the food was nice, but we waited 45 mins for our mains. So that was disappointing.
Outstanding service. Spectacular food. Wines & grappa exceptional. Came back for lunch 2 days later. Tables a little squeezy & not sure I’d want to sit downstairs in the cellar.
