Afternoon Tea at Caffe Concerto Whitehall

Our daughters who are 12 and 14 were really looking forward to afternoon tea while we were visiting London. We choose Cafe Concrete based on the ambience, chandeliers and blue comfy chairs. The ambience and food were good but the attitude of the hostess and waitstaff was very rude. They treated us as if they preferred us not to be there. There was only one other couple in the restaurant when we walked into the door (and only the one couple the whole time we were there) I let the hostess know we had a reservation. She asked me if I was sure I booked it at the right Cafe Concerta and then asked to see my reservation online to verify that we indeed did have one. I am not sure why as we were already there and there were plenty of tables. After we were seated a gentleman took our order. The only other time we saw either of them was when they brought our food. After awhile I had to get up and find the waiter to ask for more tea and water for our table. I also asked if they would bring one more chocolate dessert as we had 3 girls and although there were other desserts on the tier, there were only 2 chocolate ones. I was told no they could not do that. Also, we did not want refills but just to let you know that unlike other restaurants that do tea, there is no refills of food or drinks covered in the cost of the afternoon tea price. When we were done and ready to leave we waited patiently for a long time but I eventually had to go find the server to ask for the bill. This was a very disappointing experience as everyone was excited to be dressed up and going out for tea before leaving town.
Well, you get what you pay for. We made the mistake of looking for a more affordable afternoon tea, and that’s about what we got. The food, especially the bland, doughy scones, was entirely average and forgettable. The service about the same. If the cost is all that matters to you, Caffe Concertto will probably do, but if you are looking for a more complete afternoon tea experience, this will be disappointing.
I produced a groupon voucher discounted and received what I would call an afternoon tea for one person not two, I have been previously and received much more value for money, never again.
Would go again, everything was excellent. Procecco was best i have ever tasted.
If there is ever any offers for afternoon tea, would love to be offered them.
Favourite place in London this is the best one by far
Unfortunately venue had not received our booking but were able to fit us in. Staff where wonderful, attentive but not over the top. Only criticism would be that the sparkling element was served to close to the tea. Lovely sandwiches, scones and desserts. Will definitely go again. V
Staff were delightful!
Food was delicious, albeit some of the cakes not what I would choose. (I’m a savoury lover) xx
Ambiance was incredible considering the protests down the road.
It was a lovely little break away from the hustle.
Bathrooms were spotless also xx
Service was ok - one lady was very helpful & the rest were average. Food - afternoon tea- was quite nice but you could tell it had been sitting on the plate for a while. Was good but doubt we’ll go for afternoon tea again to be honest.
Excellent afternoon tea of sandwiches, brioche, scones, jam, cream & selection of cakes all served in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Bogdan was especially helpful and charming, staff were all friendly and attentive. Well worth a visit. Stunning chandeliers too.
I TOOK MY SISTER FOR AFTERNOON TEA AS A CELEBRATION OF 29 YEARS OF MARRIAGE. WE HAD A LOVELY DAY THE STAF WERE FANTASTIC AS WAS THE AFTERNOON TEA, NOTHING WAS TOO MUCH TROUBLE.
Amazing food, and the staff were really friendly and helpful.... nothing was too much trouble, Great value for money, ambience was fab... truly fantastic experience
Very frosty reception. Staff were very abrupt and un welcoming .
We had booked in advance but this as not checked when we arrived. We were just sat at an unreserved table. Had we booked and arrived at a full restaurant we wouldn’t have been able to eat.
The service was quick and the staff were friendly enough.
The food was the most disappointing part. We had afternoon two but the sandwiches were verging on stales and the fillings were almost tasteless. The cakes were old with the macaroons being so soft that they crumbled when we picked them up. The scones were good though and cake with plenty of cream but only a tiny pot of jam.
There was no room enough for comfortable sitting. Too expensive for small portion size
We (my wife, children and myself) arrived to find the restaurant vibrant and full, I was pleased that I had booked for my wife's surprise birthday tea as we were guided to a table.
Unfortunately the staff had not been informed about the special cake which I had selected and written on the booking 'comments'. But the manager quickly put my concerns at ease and said an appropriate cake would be found.
Both of my sons chose hot food 'it was the best piazza I have ever had' said my 11 year old, who is very choosy.
Then a cake arrived with glowing cakes (which I had not asked for) and it was just what I had hoped for.
Thank you for making us all feel so special and for contributing so well to my wife's special birthday weekend. THANK YOU (we will be back).
I treated my daughter to afternoon tea, but I was disappointed - the sandwiches were dry and nothing special at all. The scones were a bit crispy and hard in the middle perhaps where they hadn't been defrosted properly. I asked for a pot of hot water to make my small pot of tea stretch further, and it never arrived. Cakes and pastries good though, but perhaps they are made off site.
