The Story Joseph-Jibril is a Sonoma County micro-winery founded in 2021 by two friends, Bobby Huff and Jaam Moynihan, who met in 2018 while working at Kosta Browne in Sebastopol. The name comes from their middle names (Robert Joseph Huff and Jaam Jibril Moynihan); "Bobby-Jaam" didn't have the same ring to it. Bobby grew up in Sonoma County wine country, and the pair handle everything themselves, from vineyard sourcing and winemaking to marketing and sales. Philosophy They use native fermentations and minimal intervention in the cellar, working with organically farmed grapes from small, family-owned vineyards. The stated goal is focused, lively, delicious and unique wines. One retailer describes them lightly foot-treading the bins and setting barrels in the sun to start native fermentation. The Wines Varietals: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc, presented through a fresh lens. Single-vineyard focus: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc, plus a Beaujolais- style carbonic Pinot Noir and rosé. Key bottlings: Bazzano Vineyard Chardonnay (Russian River Valley) and Marshall Ranch Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast). Recognition: VinePair scored the 2024 Bazzano Chardonnay 93 points and called it a no-brainer at the price.
