My wife and I had our anniversary dinner at Absinthe on Sat., Oct. 10, 2026. We arrived early and were the first customers, but the waiter was slow to attend to us and take our order. I like to order a half-litre of house wine, which is more economical, but the restaurant does not offer this option. Instead, we had to each order a five-ounce glass. The fondue and beef Wellington were delicious--no complaints on that score. However, the waiter was slow to bring us our dessert and neglected to ask if we wanted coffee or another drink with dessert. The dessert was a sample of three different ones, so my wife and I each had one and took the third home. We are both seniors and would appreciate smaller portions. With tax and tip, the total came to $276.49, which I find excessive for an elderly couple on pension.

Wonderful experience. Fun, festive, intimate experience - and Bonnie was absolutely terrific. Doing the flight of Absinthe was really special and beautifully presented. Still thinking about that salmon!. Great attention to detail. Can’t wait to go back next time I’m in Ottawa

Absinthe used to be one of our go-to spots in Ottawa, but tonight’s experience completely changed our perspective. The service was realy slow and inattentive/dismissive. There was a 45- to 60-minute wait between courses and drinks, and settling the bills took just as long. We had to constantly follow up with our server and, when a second glass of wine never arrived, she explained they were out of it, but she had never bothered to inform us before we asked about it. While the food was as tasty as before, half of our meals (namely, all steak & frites) arrived cold; though to their credit, those were removed from the bills. The end of the meal was a mess: the bills were wrong, and even after three attempts to fix them, they still weren't right. Eventually, our server stopped coming to our table altogether, forcing us to seek her at the bar to finalize payments. It’s a real shame, as we always loved Absinthe for its food and warm hospitality, but we won't be returning or recommending it anytime soon.

The hanger steak with french fries was amazing. It is the dish that they are most well known for! The cheese fondue is a must. Great service thank you Bonnie!

I found the pasta bland and overkill with peas The. Pork was good. The steak was flavourful but very tough. Service was fantastic. Absinthe was also fantastic. As a former multiplier restaurant owner I did not want to bring it up during the visit to distract from my wife’s birthday and the server was not at fault. I did just want pass it along not a complaint but simply to share my experience

I took a friend from Toronto and the artist Kata Meic whom you've met, and they had the vegetable tart and the Cornish hen. The ambience and service and their meals were perfect. I'll be back soon. Glenn McInnes
