Situated on the second floor above our Bakery, the menu is driven by the food we love – casual, honest, and with a bit of surprise. Our food is rooted in traditional French techniques, but the flavors range from different cultures and uses the best California produce we can get our hands on. The restaurant seats up to 150, including indoor and outdoor terrace and bar seating.

Brunch format just doesn't work, especially for the price. The items aren't unique enough to be served "dim sum/Brazilian" style. Skip the brunch and come for dinner instead.
The concept is interesting but we went on a slow Saturday for brunch, service was slow and the setup did not work. The food itself (when it came out) was good. I will not be back if they keep the same serving style or it’s another slow day.
This is the second time we came here and it reaffirms our verdict of “it’s fine”. If you want to impress a very first date or bring out of town parents for a “fancy LA” experience at The Grove, come here. Otherwise just stick to the pastries downstairs.
Our waiter was so scared and sheepish, you could see the stress aura around him despite it being a fairly low key Valentines Day night. He didn’t even validate our parking correctly. The themed food was mediocre, with only the winners being the pasta and the cake. The dumplings were super fishy, I could still taste it a day later, and the beef, although tender, was super over salted.
I will continue to come back specifically for the cronuts and the frozen s’mores.
It was Valentine’s Day and me and my girlfriend had the set menu (all that was being served so am interested what other people’s experience was). We spent the next day sick to our stomachs with the exact same symptoms, including fever. We both think it was the beef. Horrendous
Otherwise it was a cold night and only one outside heater work.ed, which is lame.
Very poor service, waiting forever to get the food cart to all tables for brunch
Someone needs to take this 2nd floor restaurant out of its misery. Saturday night, 8 pm, 5 tables out of probably 30 have guests. 189 had no bartender, only one chef *used to be 3 in the kitchen*, no busboy, one waitress. The pasta I had was like 6 pasta pillows on a plate for $30 and you would need a butcher knife to slice the pasta. Horrible. Close'er it up boys! (1st floor bakery does very well)
We went for dinner on a Saturday evening during DineLA. The DineLA menu included a complimentary wine in addition to 3 courses. We choose the Brut only to be told at 6:45PM they had run out of the Brut and did not have any sparkling wine to offer in its place. We were offered a Spanish rose and given "larger " pours, amazing since the restaurant was not full and never was full while we were there.
When the meals came, the "Cowboy Ribeye" steaks while cooked to the desired doneness were dry and had considerable amounts of gristle (could not be cut with a knife). One steak was about a third gristle. When this was brought to the manager's attention, he advised us that the chef said the meat was fine and that we should expect a bit of fat in the meat. There's a big difference between fat and gristle. This was all gristle! The chicken was clearly the best choice, although the herb salad side dish was only a garnish not a salad.
Service was friendly but not particularly efficient. The interaction with the manager and his attitude were baffling. I thought that DineLA was a chance for a restaurant to showcase itself and gain new followers. This was the most dismal dining experience we have had in LA in years. How did this restaurant make the LA Times Top 101?

An insulting combination of overpriced food and bad cooking.
The food was a bit disappointing for the prices, although the sourdough bread was great. I can’t believe the restaurant didn’t have a better dessert selection, given that the famous bakery sits downstairs (cronuts are offered downstairs in the cafe and not in the restaurant). The service was especially disappointing: there were two tables in our section and we had to actively flag down our waiter anytime we wanted something. It took about 45 mins for someone to take our food order. Management would also openly scold waiters within earshot of the guests. I am not returning to this restaurant
I was surprised that this restaurant made the top 100 restaurant list from LA Times. Seems they are still working out the kinks. The service was spotty (though very friendly and pleasant). The food was inconsistent. My table-mates loved the pasta dishes (pappardelle, and duo pasta), but the chicken dish was not that exciting--not crispy enough. The sauce for the chicken was exactly the same as the sauce for the french fries--it was a good sauce, but kind of disappointing to have the same thing twice. The salads (Bibb salad and the herb salad that came with the chicken) were annoying to eat--large pieces of lettuce not cut up at all. And just not all that delicious.
Atrocious service. 20 min for the first cocktail, waited 45 for the second one. Inquired three times about it and it never showed up. Pork belly served cold and undercooked. Finally just gave the manager my card to pay and leave at which point the server graciously let us know she had taken off the negroni I never got and the raw pork belly. She was very sweet and apologetic, perhaps just understaffed. Regardless will never return.
So grateful for the team at Dominique Ansel. Food is always simply amazing!!! We appreciate the service we received!
Friends were visiting from New York and we decided to stop at 189 for dinner while shopping. The food was incredible, but one of the worst dining experiences of my life. First, the dishes took ages (we were there for 2.5 hours) and the courses came out at all different times so people weren’t eating together. When I asked the waiter about everything arriving at different times (some eating appetizers, then served entrees while others were served appetiZers) the waiter said “it’s because everything is made to order” ummmm, ok. Second, the dishes we received did not match the menu, when addressed with the waiter we were told “well, you don’t have the right menu” in an accusatory tone and he just walked away. As if we chose the menu that was placed in front of us by him.... Third, the waiter was almost entirely unavailable and may have been one of only two waitstaff for the entire restaurant, maybe someone called out sick (or several people, including cooks) but then communicate that. Apologize for the issues, let us know the kitchen is backed up. So disappointing given that the food we did receive that did match the menu was quite good. That being said, I will never eat here again...
We need to wait for an hour and half to have our food ready . This is ridiculous ! The cooking was too slow and they need to add more people in the kitchen

Fabulous food. The dim sum style brunch is delicious. Make sure to order the Dutch baby pancake and the bacon!!!!!
No flexibility on menu so only one vegetarian entree.
Otherwise food was delicious.
Food was very good but did not like “table brunch” method .. felt a bit awkward and service was slow.. some of the wait staff seemed confused .. you don’t have a dedicated waiter so communication was poor .. menu stated fresh oj and waitress told us it was not fresh. Had to ask 2x for clean plates . I would rather just pick a dish and be served once .. had to ask for coffee refill ( which was average) .. place was pretty empty so maybe idea is not a so good . Many good menu items that were delicious but we did not like the method used

Dominique is a hidden gem. The food is excellent, great ambiance, quiet, service very attentive. I would recommend you visit this restaurant soon.
Booked a reservation on OpenTable for 4:45 with no idea that the event ended at 5. Received a remark from two employees when checking in about how it was ending in 5 minutes, in a way which made me feel very unwelcome. I offered to leave but they said I could stay and seated me. After that, the service was good and the food was great...next time, however the reservation system works, they should not offer reservations so close to closing or at least not make it sound like they are trying to turn you away...
