This was a first time for 1821 - I had not even heard of it but one of my colleagues passed it and liked the look of it. We had a wonderful meal, with excellent wine. The service was exemplary and I would recommend it highly to anyone who is looking for a Greek experience. Ten points 1821!
We booked for a pre-theatre dinner. The food was outstanding, and service could not be faulted. We particularly enjoyed the Barbecue lamb - so authentic. Portion sizes were excellent - very generous, in fact we could not finish the dishes we ordered. Loved the tzasiki and oven baked bread, and the cocktails were so tasty. Would highly recommend this restaurant, intend to return in the not too distant future.
Our table and another table were ignored by the wait staff for 40 minutes, we tried to get their attention but they served us our drink and gave us menus and were not interested in coming back for 40 minutes until we got up, put on our jackets and got very close to the door, another table seemed equally unimpressed! Pity it's a lovely room! Not a great way to spend my birthday!
We had a group booking at 630pm and were asked to move to the bar downstairs at 8pm. We were very confused as to why we had to move so early. The restaurant wasn't full but they insisted that we move. No one told
Us at the time of booking that we would only have 1.5hrs at the table.
When we moved downstairs, where we were offer dessert, the bar only had 1-couple and really lacked atmosphere.
We stayed for one cocktail but then decided to leave as we were the only people there.
When we went walked upstairs, the restaurant was not full, so many empty chairs we were really confused as to why we were made to move.
2nd visit with some Thai Hoteliers and needed a bit of a wow factor, so once again 1821 delivered! Great food, superb service and just a great evening. My clients loved it and one of them was a non-lamb fan, but left the restaurant fully converted. Thanks 1821, will be back and have since recommended it for my colleagues for similar occasions
Our booking was at 6:15pm - we had not finished our entree when our main course was unceremoniously dumped on the table. Despite protests, our plates were cleared away and we were left with the main course. It was obvious that they wanted us out of the place as soon as possible for the next seating. The toilets are a store room - go at your peril.
We really enjoyed the shared plates that we tried and there was sufficient food to share. The tables were very close together so it's not a place for a romantic dinner and the noise level was high. We thought that being charged $5 per person for still water was high. Wasn't it just water out of the tap? There was also a credit card surcharge already added onto the bill (when we wanted to pay cash) Staff were helpful and didn't mind splitting the bill. All in all we enjoyed a very pleasant evening.
First time dining and would definitely come back and recommend to friends and family! The level of customer service there is beyond exceptional. All staff were so hospitable - I have not experienced better customer service! Food came out quick, presentation fine, tasted fresh and flavour was amazing.
Food was amazing.
When I first got there, no one acknowledged me for about 10 minutes, wasn't very busy.
I also asked for a high chair was told there were none, but saw another family with a high chair for their baby.
Otherwise, good place, good food, would recommend.
Having made a reservation for a birthday we were greeted with a warm welcome. It was a surprise that the meals were large enough to be shared but that was perfect for the Greek menu. We ordered the Greekslaw, haloumi, lamb shoulder and seafood saganaki. All of these dishes were amazing in respect to the modern twist with each. We had David's signature Baklava ice cream which was devine and the white chocolate cheesecake for dessert. We absolutely loved the food at 1821 and can't wait to return.
Fabulous food but one major disappointment was that we ordered two mains and made it very clear to server that one couple in our party was having the lamb and the other couple was having the chicken. Despite this the lamb dish was finished, and we had waited until it started to get cold, before the chicken dish even appeared - we asked several times and were just told it was coming. So, apart from starters, we didn't get to eat together which really took the shine off a special celebration evening.
Whilst I recognise the food was outstanding and good value, the issue we had was we ordered a bottle of red and a bottle of white from the wine list. The red came and we ordered a merlot, the waitress explained that the bottle she had wasn't a merlot and said it had been mis printed on the wine list, the white was nowhere to be seen. After I requested the white as we were eating our entrées ($110 per bottle), someone eventually came up and said that bottle was no longer on the list. I selected a second bottle ($120 per bottle) at which stage it took them 10 minutes to come to me and say they had run out of that wine. They then offered me a $65 complimentary, which I declined and ordered a second bottle of red($140 per bottle) We had some complimentary desert and the ordered a 'cleanser' - an Ouzo, an espresso martini and a Canadian club and dry. After 20 minutes nothing had arrived and the waitress came back and said the drinks had been forgotten and she would order them again, we decided not to bother, paid our bill and left. The waitress did explain she had been in Australia for four days and was obviously new to the scene, it would have been better if the Maitre D had looked after her and her customers better, but that wasn't to be. Good food is one part of an essential lunch, but that can go wrong every now and then due to quality etc, but service from my experience is very hard to get wrong when it relies on people and their skills.
Unfortunately I wouldn't rush back for this experience.
Great venue and fabulous food but everything just seemed to so rushed...little time to review menu...entrees arriving before pre-dinner cocktails, etc!
Obviously, because there are staggered 2 hour dining sessions, table turnover is important but this could be handled just a little better with more coordinated and "paced" service.
That said, we will be giving it one more try purely on the strength of the food alone...
