Came here to celebrate a pre-theatre birthday lunch. Given it was sunday and a lunch we had a quiet experience - which was great though we did feel that the service could have been a little friendlier... The decor was impressive and original and the food was creative and tasty but was expensive . We could justify the expensive indulgence given it was a special occasion - we wouldn't be dining here regularly....had previously been thinking of having my son's 21st family dinner here in July but not too sure now.
Food was nice enough. We asked for our food not to be rushed at least four times. We were served six courses in 25 minutes. Waiters did not listen at all. When asked to double check that the dishes we had chosen were all free of gluten they were completely confused. They have a lot of staff but they spend most of their time talking to each other rather than seeing what their customers need. The restaurant was almost empty when we were there so there was certainly no need to rush us.
Good vibe amazing service
Interesting Greek Restaurant. Top notch. The shared platters idea worked well for us on this very special reunion. I would certainly recommend it - easily accessible by rail as it is close to martin Place
Meal was good but service very slack even though a quiet lunchtime. White wine was served too warm. Food was very good though.
great ambience, great food and service and not overpriced
Amazing food. Lovely and fresh and fantastic flavours. Especially loved the ouzo infused salmon and baklava ice cream. Yummy cocktails too! We will back and next time we are going to get the chef to pick or try the Trapezi menu as we could not decide - too many great choices.
First date. Lovely place, not too loud, great atmosphere and delicious food
The food was amazing, the service was great and the drinks hit the spot. An awesome fine dining experience in a unique setting. Will definitely be coming again!
Food was nice however I prefer traditional Greek food to contemporary Greek food ... it's a shame that 1821 has lost its link to tradition. Seating was a little uncomfortable and wait staff weren't really interested in creating a good atmosphere. I was very disappointed and would not recommend to others ... I won't be going back.
The restaurant was quite accommodating for my party. We had the lamb shoulder which was delicious, along with the barbecue chicken and other, smaller plates. Everything met or exceeded expectations. Matched with the Greek Pinot Noir, the meal was superb.
Beautiful restaurant but very expensive for the portions and quality of food. Service was great and would be back, but only for special occasions.
Delicious food, great location & excellent service.
First time I visited and it was for a quick business lunch - delicious food, good service and not too noisy. Will go again.
The service was friendly and our waiter was very attentive. The food is authentic and delicious.
A fabulous place to dine with friends and family. Staff are wonderful as is the menu.
Lovely atmosphere and excellent service. Drink and cocktails were also excellent. Sadly I can't say the same about the food. The Octopus carpaccio was very mediocre and the same for the beef tartare and pork belly. Definitely overpriced considering the food quality. However, I would recommend it for an after-work drinks spot.
Great food. Would have benefited from some portion size guidance from the waiters. Ended up ordering too much food.
Great atmosphere, very good service and delicious food😊
I’ll be back to try the rest of the menu!
Lovely restaurant. We did the banquet which was superb.
Service was friendly and attentive. Delicious cocktails and great food.
Excellent service. But is superseded by the quality of the food. Topped by a very delicious after food sweets. Beats all other Greek restaurants here , Melbourne and Athens. Thank you. Only the rose wine was too expensive.
Loved the food, service and atmosphere, will be back.
Had a beautiful evening for my birthday .
Great staff great food
Fantastic experience. Booked a dinner for business colleagues and promised them a unique Greek Food journey with awesome Greek wine.
Expectations met and exceeded.........
Wonderful food, great service, good wine. I’ve already booked for a lunch date next week.
Moussaka is my favourite here. 1821 is always consistent with their food and wine. Service can be hit and miss at times. My last visit was perfect!
The waitress referred one of our entrees as San Chow Bow. With a name like 1821 which is so strong and meaningful, that’s not what we wanted to hear in a Greek restaurant. Sommelier drank the first pour of our wine, not acceptable. Also was charged additional $5 for extra bread yet we noticed bread being given to other tables were much larger portions. The salad served in the banquet we couldn’t eat only so much zucchini ribbons you can have. A traditional Greek salad would have been perfect.
Service is indifferent generally and it seems worse because they take the view they can bring you any dish whenever they want. One meat deal will come at a totally different time than another. The drinks were well made however and the location is great.
Lamb dish was so salty we could not even finish it. Sydney has so many great restaurants why waste your time and money...
Our second visit to 1821. We could not fault the quality and flavour of the food. Our dissatisfaction lay with the poor service of the evening.. we had to catch the attention of any wait staff
We had the set menu and hardly ate anything.
Dips were very poor, not tasty at all. The chips had cheese and egg on it and was super super salty (and we like salt!). The passionfruit cocktail tasted absolutely awful and looked ridiculous! What was that?
Overall not worth even a fraction of the price. You would think they'd ask why we haven't finished our food and did not even wait for the desert. Service also very poor.
Superb service. Quiet and pleasant decor. The food was well prepared, delivered timely and savory. A truly wonderful dining experience.
Enjoyed the baklava ice cream. Ate a little too much. Great food.
Really lovely quiet and cool restaurant on a busy hot day before Christmas. Service was lovely without being too in your face. Food was good but that slow cooked lamb shoulder was everything. Absolutely loved it.
Wait staff recommended a lovely greek rose which we really enjoyed. I would come back.
Oh my! Everything was perfect about this place and I mean everything and I also mean perfect. The food the dessert the service the atmosphere! Everything. We went there for a friend’s birthday and we loved every serving of food specially the pork baklava and the moussaka. They were awesome food. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. I will definitely go back again and again.
Beautiful modern Greek food, with excellent service. We enjoyed some cocktails and shared several of the dishes. The Mousaka and lamb shoulder signature dishes were delicious and the baklava ice-cream was also superb.
I've got to say overall it was ok. But when you are paying more than $120/head I think its reasonable to expect more.
Most of the food was very good - loved the deserts. Chicken was far too salty - was not eaten.
Service could have been better as well even though it is that time of the year.
A bit transactional I'm afraid.
Great food. Good service. Lovely cocktails. Special occasion.
Very good, loved it. my guests loved it also and will be back.
Had a lovely meal at 1821! Was disappointed that the restaurant had run out of pita bread so early in the evening, a staple for a Greek restaurant.
