Fabulous food and excellent service. John gave us excellent service. He was knowledgeable, professional, and personable.
We enjoyed our dinner very much at the Public Fish & Oyster. We opted to sit at the bar for our meal. John the bartender really made the evening for us. He was experienced, knowledgeable and had heaps of personality. My only concern was the usual downside to busy restaurants.....tight fit with seating and a bit uncomfortable. Other than that, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️!
Such a great evening. We sat out on the patio and it was perfect. Our server was professional as well as fun.
Best place in town to have oysters and other fresh seafood. The owner is there every night and he and his staff are top notch. Highly recommend.
Wonderful food, especially Mussels. Cheerful and friendly staff. Very nice to be recognized by staff as a repeat customer.
Highly recommend, especially if you love oysters! Best lobster bisque I’ve ever had. Service was exceptional. Sitting outside is the thing to do as the noise level indoors was high on a Friday night of a football weekend. Will definitely return!
Disappointed that the crab cakes are off the menu. Won't patronize regular till they come back
Best lobster rolls in town. Maybe the only ones, but they’re great. Rich, sweet, hot buttered lobster piled into a buttery, toasted roll. So good!
Excellent meal! One of the best I have ever had. Service was very good. Kudos to Daniel.
Fabulous food really good service. We go regularly because we have never been disappointed. We are both good cooks so it's rare to find a restaurant that matches what we make!
Enjoy your food. It was everything I had expected. Would recommend trying this restaurant for great fish dishes
Such good lobster rolls! Don’t tell anyone.
Food and service is always excellent. Favorite place to go for seafood.
Tables are too close the wait staff and diners are always passing too close to the small tables for two. Occasionally touching you as they pass. I find this annoying!
Food was great!
Our bartender/server was knowledgeable and personable. Made the experience notable.
Excellent seafood and service. We always look forward to coming to Charlottesville and staying overnight. Good that it’s open Monday as well.
Shrimp and calamari were very fresh and crisp with the calamari a touch too salty but still good. Cocktails were delightful
We me our nephew, who's a UVA senior, here for dinner as it's one of his favorite places in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and overall found the food and drink to be excellent. My one exception was their "New England Clam Chowder" which is one of my all-time favorite dishes and one which I've been rating in dozens and dozens of restaurants for over 50 years. Sadly I found their take on this dish to be pretty much unacceptable due to it being not at all creamy in texture with too much potato and not enough actual clams. However, our other dinner items were all really excellent, as were our wine and hard cider beverages. Definitely a place we'd like to go back to and highly recommended.
Great service, food, and cocktails! You can never go wrong!
sitting outside really helps with noise level. Oysters on the half shell are spectacular as always ( ASK for some horseradish - not automatically given - wish they would shred fresh horseradish like Rock Salt used to!)
Entrees are always nice - however, perhaps a little too complex for this simple girl.
Server was THE BEST! she had great suggestions on food and drinks.
Great service, great food, great drinks -definitely one of our favorite restaurants in Charlottesville!
Waiter was terrible, I felt as if he didn’t want to serve me. I have not felt so unwelcome!
Superb food and service.
Decided to sit at bar. Danny, our bartender, was great. He was busy, but still took time to make us feel welcome and was quick to deliver our wine and meal. Enjoyable visit.
My husband and I have been dying to go to Happy Hour and it did not disappoint. The lobster rolls were delicious and you can't beat the drink specials. Ask for Jamie to be your server. He was awesome! We had a great time and can't wait to go back.
Been there before > steady. They weren’t that busy but service was extremely slow. Waited 15+ for our cocktails & we were sitting by the bar. But food made up for it.
We had 8:45pm reservations. Almost as soon as we sat down we were asked to put our food order in soon because the kitchen was “closing in 5 minutes.” This was really annoying since we were looking forward to a leisurely dinner. That said, after we put our orders in, we never felt rushed. The seafood was superb: oysters, shrimp, clam chowder were all perfectly prepared and delicious. The only two items we ordered that were not seafood (summer salad and root beer float) were subpar. Overall, definitely a go-to for great seafood.
The oysters, hot pot, and crab cakes were great. Service was fantastic and the vibe is casual and fun. We will be back.
Awesome food, great service! Diverse clientele and Happy Hour is the BEST!!
The mussels and oysters were extremely fresh and good. Our service was excellent, we will definitely return when we are back in town.
Still one of my favorite places in C'ville. Great standard menu, great specials, exceptionally well chosen wines on the list!
Excellent food - great seafood for us coastal seafood lovers that were visiting from Baltimore
Our first time to the restaurant and it was excellent . John provided outstanding service and was extremely accommodating! We would highly recommend!
Food was wonderful as always .
We were celebrating our 20 year anniversary after spending the day at the wineries and Monticello. Dinner at Public was the perfect ending to a great day! The hostess was able to seat us early before our reservation and that was helpful. We will definitely return!
The ambiance and the service was great! It was within walking distance of our hotel and I received an alert as soon as the table was ready which was perfect.
On a very busy Friday evening, the wait staff went out of their way to make sure we had an enjoyable experience. Their guidance and service was spot on and our food was delicious.
We had one minor complaint about the small portion size of the red snapper special.
Great service & crab cakes. Nice oyster selection.
Delicious food; tremendous energy; excellent service!
