Piranha Killer Sushi - Flower Mound
The restaurant was pretty empty when we went on Saturday night, only 3/4 other couples were there.
The food was pretty decent, although the service was really awful.
The waiters sat around the restaurant with feet up on chairs, playing on their phones, talking loud each other.
We had to constantly bother the sushi chef every time we needed our waiter.
Valentine’s Day Friday. Trying to give benefit of the doubt throughout experience. After a while, I could not. When we get there, we find out that their online registration was down. Those of us who booked online could prove we had reservations, yet they still intermingled us with the walk-ins. There were quite a few people who walked out. Not only did they look understaffed, they looked undersupplied/underordered. It seemed that they either didn’t have a busperson at all or they called in. They had 3 tables next to each other who left about the same time. The wise thing to do would have been to clean the three tables quickly to be able to seat the couples that were clogging their tiny entryway. Their hosts cleaned tables, but they looked like they hadn’t clean many tables before. These 3 tables were immediately next to each other, yet one table was cleaned, ten minutes later the next, then ten minutes after the third . No bus tubs, no serving trays. Staff individually ran things from kitchen, bar, and sushi bar with only what they fit in their arms/hands. On our side of restaurant no staff was helping any of the other staff. Bar was out of SO MUCH from underordering—out of liquors from their signature drinks. My wife ordered 5 different drinks (no exaggeration—5!!!!) and all five they were out of. Server wasn’t even told by bar what they were out of. Owner/mgr nice enough, but looked like he was turning circles next to kitchen completely overwhelmed. Wine wall literally had 8 /9 bottles on it (spots for ~100). Standard sushi rolls were a little bigger than circumference of a nickel. Had special menu for the day, but no prices. The server said she wasn’t told details of the menu; she had to ask another server. African/American female server on other side of restaurant looked like she had her stuff together—our experience might have been better had my wife and I been sat in her section, but bad mgmt plan overall. One and only time there, never again.
My wife and I showed up for our 7:30 dinner reservation. We stood in line till approximately 8:00 with several other people who had 7:30 dinner reservations. Finally, we were seated (at a high top bar table in the bar area)....we were informed that no warm food would be available from the kitchen unless we ordered the Valentine special. Nothing looked appealing from the valentine special menu.
The server let us know that they were way behind and our order would take quite a while to get to us. We didn't feel like waiting and left to a fast food restaurant.
We have eaten at Piranha Killer Sushi in the past and really enjoyed the food.
However, this night was a total disaster on all counts. They really dropped the ball.
Waited 40 minutes after our reservation time be seated. Waitress was excellent, it was only her second day but she did a great job. Food took about an hour to get out. Overall not a bad experience, especially since it was Valentine’s Day, but with a reservation we were expecting to be seated a little quicker.
This was by far the worst sushi & dinner experience I have ever had. We had a reservation for 630 PM on Valentine's Day and walked in the door at 6:30. There was a line so long and not a hostess in site. We did not get seated at our table until 7:15. Tried to order immediately from a waitress who could not care less, and then did not get our appetizers until 8PM. The potstickers and the drinks were the highlight of our meal. We get the Dr. Fran Roll, the Volcano Roll and the Ahi Tuna Tower. Everything comes out doused in sauces. One of these is a wasabi cream sauce. I'm not talking about a nice drizzle of sauce. Our entire roll was DRENCHED. I love wasabi and it was even too much for me. My boyfriend hates it, which is why we always try to look at the ingredients on the menu so that we avoid the sauces that contain wasabi. These three rolls had NO mention of a wasabi sauce of any kind. And the worst part was it was so spicy and our waitress did not come by a single time to refill our waters. Not only did we have to wait an hour and a half and the manager was aware, we were not even offered a single item comped. I am completely disappointed in this experience and will make sure to tell all of my friends and family to avoid this chain.
We always enjoy this place. DELICIOUS!!!!
Meh - service was slow and I’ve had better sushi elsewhere
Got to the restaurant only to find that the open table ap is not linked to their system and that I did not have a reservation. Very disappointing! The hostess was very gracious and managed a table for us. As always, the food was top notch. That said, the noise level from the live entertainer was deafening. The acoustics in the dining area are poor at best and adding the entertainer was a huge mistake.
Food way overpriced. Not a good roll selection. Chili sauce I’m pretty sure is ketchup.
Food was very good and the service equally as good. Will definitely be back and would definitely recommend. ;)
A great sushi dinner every time. Friendly staff and great service. The spring rolls and gyoza are my favorite appetizers! Sexy roll, Marry me roll are my favorite rolls. Thursday is half price wine bottles which is great to share with friends! Thursday also offers free music from great musicians! Outside patio sitting is awesome atmosphere this time of year!
Great service, great appetizers.
Chef is amazing!
Food was amazing ! Chef was an excellent to recommend what to order !
The food is always so fresh! Wait staff is very personable and assists in making recommendations. Cocktail selection is fabulous. And, the menu has great options for the non-sushi eater as well.
Could not find my reservation and didn’t care to find it.
A wonderful birthday dinner for grand- daughter!
Just okay, nothing great. Out of most of the Sake on menu. Not nearly as good as Piranha in Downtown Fort Worth
Service was amazing! I was just a little disappointed on the sushi, great taste but the rolls fell apart when you picked them up with the chop sticks and it just all feel apart.
Piranha continues to impress with its consistency in fine food; always tasty, always fresh. It was a quiet time one a Saturday when we were there, which is unusual. Friendly service, prompt staff. Happy with the establishment as always.
The rolls we ordered had a lot of rice and very little of the other ingredients. The rice seems really dense and packed. We decided to give them another chance. But probably will not come back.
The fried rice was mushy. Only ate a little, my daughter and I couldn't handle the texture. I have had the California roll before and it was good. This visit it was lackluster. Loved the garlic parmesan edamame.
Our evening was so bad, we informed the hostess we’d never return. Having had good experiences at other piranhas, we were expecting a good meal. Where to start:
First we were seated next to the table the staff was occasionally sitting at to prepare napkins, etc-not a problem EXCEPT they were there vaping.
The food, which we waited for 45 minutes (which may have been excusable if the place was full, there were 4 tables filled when we walked in and nobody came in after us) Was covered in so much sauce that there was no way to taste the actual food (we ordered from both the sushi bar and the kitchen).
While waiting for the food, we were ‘fortunate’ enough to be near the staff congregating by the hostess desk-again wouldn’t be a problem if they weren’t yelling multiple curse words (we originally thought they were drunk customers but then we watched them walk into the kitchen)
The only somewhat decent part of the night-our server (not a part of any of the above issues) was polite and apologetic for the food delay and her coworkers behavior . Even so we rarely saw her.
The management needs to look long and hard at how they are running this location-it easily turned us off the entire chain.
Arrived for our 7pm reservation which they had no record of.
Service was quite slow even though it didn’t appear there were many tables seated. Food delivery was staggered (and also slow). Disappointed their cooked rolls aren’t marked as such on the menu. Highly doubt we will go back.
Was very excited to try Piranha Killer Sushi but nothing from the entire dining experience stood out, with an exception of service, which was poor. Restaurant was almost entirely empty on a Saturday night but getting our waitress to come to our table was almost impossible. She had 1 other table, that’s it!
Bottom line, my wife and I really tried to find something memorable from our dining experience, that would convince us to come back but the entire experience was just average. Sashimi was fresh but pieces were so unevenly sliced! Special rolls were decent but bland in flavor. Overall, it’s not bad but just OK but not sure I will be back as there are LOTS of sushi places around.
Sushi was great. Food was timely. Drinks were made well. Service was great. Great experience!
It was Fat Tuesday and we were treating ourselves to some very good food. Our hostess and server Kelly was really sweet. We had the addiction roll and marry me roll. Our favorite! We started with edamame and wontons. Both yummy.
As usual, Piranha was great. The food was fabulous and the drinks were spot on. However, my only gripe is that upon arrival, I was told they did not have my reservation even though it was booked via OpenTable. So, if you book a reservation, they may not have your table if they are too crowded since they apparently do not use OpenTable even though they are listed on this site.
Great sushi! Chef B made a custom sushi roll for us that was out of this world!
Good atmosphere and very tasty sushi. Very satisfied.
Piranha has some of the best sushi around! Always fresh, and delicious!
Plates had a grease film
Absolutely love this place been here several times. And will be back again maybe even this evening 21 of July
A dining experience depends just as much on the service as it does the food. Not sure if they are under staffed or what, but there was just lots of sitting and waiting.... waited for menus to be dropped off, waited for water, asked for drinks that were never even delivered.... every time the server came
to our table, we felt rushed and as if she didn't have time, she was constantly running around as if she was in the weeds. Second time there and not sure I'll go back. Service needs to step up their game!
Our order was missing some of the elements and the chef basically said they were out of those ingredients and to get over it.
Fun and energetic place. The appetizers of pork dumplings and seared tuna were both very good. Yum. We got three of the specialty rolls and a simple roll. The tempura shrimp one was best, the other two so so. The simple hamachi roll was quite good. We tend to like less fussy rolls so I would order differently next time (they had many simpler choices), but fish was fresh. We had fantastic service. Very attentive but not too much so. As we were leaving they opened the windows to the outside so diners could hear the live music. We will be back. Loved the fun atmosphere, but if you don't like noise this isn't the place for you.
In general a good place but price is way too high for the quality of the food and especially the service. We were more of an inconvenience than a customer but not so bad that you don't go back. Similar to service at chilis but double the price. Food was good but again no value for the price. In all 3 stars.
We came in late but the service and sushi as always were exceptional.
Always great! We enjoyed several signature rolls while sitting out on the patio, listening to live music and sipping our sake!
