Pre-theatre and after work specials are available daily. Petterino's location is ideal for business lunches as well as a break from shopping or touring in the nearby State Street and Millennium Park venues. Pre-theatre diners have the option of leaving their car with Petterino's while they attend the show and can then pick it up after the performance is completed.
Food was excellent, server was a little slow with beverage refills.
Petterino's is a nice place for dining. The food is always delicious and fairly reasonable. The staff is professional, mature and classy.
We just had seen Hamilton and walked a couple of blocks north on Dearborn to Petterinos. Our server, Daniel, was excellent and went out of his way to make our first time there extra special. The food was very good and value was pretty good for downtown dining. All of the pictures on the walls led to some good conversations. We will be back.
The restaurant is super-convenient for the theatre district, and is reasonably accessible. One of our party was in a wheelchair, and he was accommodated cheerfully and expertly. The food is a bit pricey, but not out of line for the area, and of good quality. But the main reason we would go back to Petterino's is the quality of the waitstaff, especially our head waiter, Daniel. He is by far the most warm, empathetic, humorous, knowledgeable, and professional waiter in recent memory. Kudos to Petterino's for hiring someone like him.
Our restaurant experience was fantastic in every way. We went to the Goodman Theater for a performance after dinner which was astonishingly convenient.
Waiter ignored our table- would have spent twice as much if we had anybody wait on the us. Not a place for locals. They must assume because they in a tourist area they don’t have repeat customers so no need to have great service.
I had several meals at Petterino's while in Chicago for a few weeks. All were excellent. I especially will be thinking about the Short Rib hash for weeks to come. The halibut was also fantastic. Loved the ambiance, and the service. Highly recommended.
The atmosphere is perfect for the theater district in this well established and delightful restaurant whether dining in or outside. The wait staff is exceptional and the menu is well balanced with superb offerings to meet any palate with a reasonable price fix for the theater goer. Excellent experience al around!
The atmosphere was energetic and fun, the food was wonderful, and the service was superb!! The only negative was that it was a bit warm in the restaurant when we first got there, but then it got cooler within a few minutes.
Pre-theater dinner. Had the pre-fixe menu, appetizer/salad, entree, dessert. Chose the almond crusted whitefish and it was over cooked and dry. Rest of meal was good, service was good. Others in party also got fish and theirs was over cooked as well. Would try it again with a different entree.
We had a delicious meal with fine service from Jeff and the staff. The trout was delicious, the aspargus cooked to perfection and the key lime pie scrumptious. Didn't care for the house made tater tots but the risotto and mashed potatoes were terrific. With dessert and tea we still made out 8pm show time. Thanks!
If you want your food hot, don’t order the short rib. It came room temperature. After sending it back it returned sort of warm. It tasted good, but I didn’t really enjoy the meal. It’s. no fun when others have their food and you’re just sitting there. Neither the waiter or the manager (who the waiter apparently sent over) really apologized. When it still wasn’t hot after sending back, their response was kind of “oh well”. It was not the service I would expect. It was disappointing, and put a damper on my meal. I won’t be going back anytime soon.
We’ve been coming there for years, especially pre-or post theater and always had an enjoyable meal and good service. That was not the case this time. The last time we were there things were so so, but we came back thinking it was just a fluke.
But this last visit was even worse. Service mediocre at best even though they were not that crowded. And the food - some dishes were OK and somewhere bland with no flavor. Asked for fresh grated Parmesan cheese and they brought out a cup with a few sprinkles of canned grated cheese. No restocking of the bread basket. The waiter was busy with another table and had to ask one of the busboys for butter and more water. He was very pleasant and helpful.
Our waiter seemed upset from the start that we did not order rounds of drinks, appetizers etc. Not a pleasant evening after an enjoyable matinee. I think this is our last visit if the food and service continue to be heading downward. Makes us sad after all these years. Service and food can easily be fixed if they care.
We enjoyed our meal and service. Only problem was that we were never awarded our points with Lettuce Entertain you. We signed in, wrote our code down and yet it was never processed. I have reached out to LETU directly.
Enjoyed brunch before the play
My husband and I enjoyed an excellent meal before taking in a Saturday matinee at The Goodman. Our server made sure that we were taken care of and on our way to the performance in plenty of time. Our experience was wonderful from beginning to end.
If you are going to the theater, Petterino's, with all those great pictures on its walls, will put you in the mood. The food is delicious and the wait staff is congenial and efficient even during the busiest times.
I ordered crab cakes on eggs benedict. The homemade tater tots were excellent and very warm. Crab cakes were warm and tasty but the eggs and hollandaise were quite cool. Too bad otherwise I would have raided the food excellent
Everything we each ordered was fantastic. Not one complaint. It was an overall nice evening.
The waiter and additional staff was outstanding. He was very attentive and funny.
We came here before going to the Cadillac theatre. If you are seeing any show, this is hands down the best restaurant within the area. The food was delicious, atmosphere was great, and overall the service was good! Loved everything about Petterino’s and would recommend to anyone whether they are seeing a show or not.
I brought 2 guests who had never dined here. They enjoyed the food, ambiance and convenience to the Goodman theatre.
Good place in Chicago's theatre district. Nice ambiance, good service. Food is fine but nothing great.
I was disappointed when I went for lunch before a play. I wasn’t in a hurry, but I felt rushed by the people busting tables. They were constantly coming around and asking if we were finished and asking if we were finished with the bread.
It was particularly noisy on Tuesday. Difficult to hear conversations. Don't remember this problem in the past because we love eating here?
Great waiter! He was very concerned bout getting us to the next door Goodman show on-time.
This is about as minor an issue as I've ever complained about but here it is. The Crabmeat Eggs Benedict was wonderful (but needed a bit more Hollandaise.) I got the requested extra and put it over the dish. Half of it was put into a doggie bag. When I got home, I found that not a trace of the sauce ended up in the container. A minor frustration to be sure. But there it is. Can staff be reminded we want all of the leftovers, and scrape a little more.
Went here for a nice dinner and I must say it was extremely nice. Food was excellent, service was quick and peaceful. Will definitely return next time I’m in Chicago.
Fine place to have a quick dinner before a show, but not outstanding. While we were seated right away, it took 10 mins for a waiter to come by. The soup of the day Chicken noodle was delicious. Chicken Parmesan was on the salty side and sauce was uninspired. Trout was very good.
The food and the experience was very good.
The food is excellent. Salad and especially the dressings are fantastic. Food is well-prepared and tasty. Service is not as attentive as it could be. This is the second visit and both time service was lacking in attention. This time our wine did not come out until we had our meals and asked where it was.
everything very good excellent service the food very well.
The ambiance was fun and reminiscent of Sardi's in New York. The food was great and our server was very attentive. We did the prix fixe menu and the food came out very quickly.
We are return diners at Petterino's and had another wonderful dinner! Cocktails and wines are varied and prices are fair. Their Caesar salad is as good as anyplace in the Chicago area! The chicken vegetable soup was excellent. My wife loved her salmon, and I went out on a limb to have the trout (which I never try,) and was rewarded with a delicious filet of tasty fish! Service was excellent, the ambience old school classic, and overall a great experience.
Except...my wife, whose birthday we were celebrating, was wished "Happy Birthday" three different times, and...nothing!!! Not even a cupcake. The takeaway? Don't celebrate anything there and expect recognition other than lip service.
Menu was varied enough to suit everyone’s varied tastes. The proximity to the theater is ideal. Value was typical for a downtown restaurant. Service was efficient but bordered on dull. I guess we like to have genuine interaction with the wait staff, but either he was tired or not interested as our inquiries were given brief and unenthusiastic answers. With so many options it may be a long while before we choose to eat here again.
Good food. We were on lunch and come to this place often. The server took a very long time bringing our food. I had to get get most of my food to go. I couldn't enjoy it fully.
We had the best server and our food was amazing! We all got the price fixed menu and we were so happy with our food. I recommend the crispy burrata and the chicken Armando
Excellent dinner. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and chose this restaurant for our “pre-show” dinner. The food was delicious. Their Prix Fixe menu had great options for a great price. The ambiance was nice. And they were playing top 40 music. Which was just fine by us. Overall we had a great experience and would gladly dine there again.
Great food and great service as always. Love the pre fixe menu for before theater dining.
