Owner Kim Nguyen has painstakingly cultivated and created her ideal concept of Pasteur, resulting in the restaurant’s latest and best incarnation yet. Its newly redesigned space features a warm and refined aesthetic, thanks to an expansive interior tastefully appointed with elegant banquettes, white-tablecloth tables and rattan seating set against a neutral palette that shows off stunning Vietnamese artwork. The restaurant also has an exceptionally large and private patio for diners who desire the outdoor experience.

One of our favorites in Edgewater. We've dined there three times in the past two years. Love the outside patio. The food is wonderful.

This was my first visit to Pasteur in a few years, and it seems to have adopted a new format--less fine dining and more an everyday meal--including the prices (less expensive than before), menu (smaller and less fancy then previously), and ambiance (white paper over the white table cloth). We ordered the fresh spring rolls, which were fresh and flavorful, the chicken curry (a little bland and nothing to recommend it), and the beef cubes (good flavor and nicely presented, but not outstanding). My standby favorite, the short ribs, were gone from the menu. For dessert, we enjoyed the warm tapioca pudding with bananas---a large serving and not too sweet. In retrospect, I was expecting the old Pasteur, so I was a disappointed that the experience was not as special as it had been previously. But I did like the new prices...and the food and service were sufficiently good that I'll return to give it another chance.

The food is solid. But it took 50 minutes to even take our food order and another 100 to get the food. They were clearly incredibly understaffed (bartender was also waiting every table), but there was barely an explanation or apology until we confronted them 2 hours in. They should've just closed for the night. Best part: they offered to comp the drinks when only 1/5 of us had even ordered anything except water. Not going back.

The combination of great food and the ability to carry on a conversation without having to shout over loud music made for a very pleasant evening. Everything we ordered was delicious and well-presented. The only shortfall was service was a tad slow, especially when ordering drinks. Even so, we will definitely return.

I've been going to, and enjoying Pasteur, since it was a store front on Chicago in the City. I have always had a soft spot for the place that fed me so well while I attended Loyola Law School around the corner. I have gotten to the Edgewater location less often, but still indulge in some nostalgia every now and then. The food is still very good, though I was disappointed to see that the clay pot catfish is no longer served in a clay pot but rather on a flat dish. The real disappointment this time was the service. We ordered a bottle of wine with dinner that arrived (and was rejected) long after dinner had been served and finished. Dishes were left on the table for far too long after each course. There was a general inattentiveness that was uncharacteristic and more than a little off-putting. This quiet, unassuming, but lovely Vietnamese eatery needs to re-up its game a bit. It would be a shame for it just too fade away.

So delighted by our delicious meal at Pasteur, which was up to the usual standards! Our Saigon crepe had the right amount of savory and crunch. The Japanese eggplant was its usual tasty self, firm and flavorful. Our steamed red snapper was especially fresh and aromatic. And the blood orange cocktail created by Pasteur's bar genius, who happens to be the owner's son, is perfection with its tangy mix of sweet and sour. Don't miss it!

Their vegetarian tempura is gluten free, and absolutely delicious! Prices are reasonable, and ingredients are fresh and inventive. We went early and were in a rush. Next time we will linger, and eat more!

Overall, we were quite pleased with our meal. We ordered the Spring Roll appetizer. It was tasty but the wrapping was a bit chewy. Branzino (whole fish, steamed) was excellent and could easily be shared by 2 or 3 people. The noodle dish with veggies & tofu was very good. The catfish clay pot entree was also very good. Desserts of coconut tapioca and green tea ice cream with espresso were both very good. Service was excellent!

Delicious food, great drinks and excellent service. Plus easy street parking! I had been to Pasteur many years ago, so lovely to rediscover it. The dining room is pretty; not trendy but not stuffy, feels special but is still casual. Just the right vibe for a nice Friday night dinner with my husband and my parents. We ate here before going to a show at Raven Theatre

We had a great table facing the storefront. The food was fabulous! We recommend the Ben Xeo appetizer and the steamed pork dumplings. The green chicken curry, shrimp and scallops, and Co Chin Chin were all delicious. It’s a very comfortable place. Service was very nice and helpful, but a little slow. I think the server had too many tables at once. We hope to return.

Great value. Food is outstanding, friendly knowledgeable server and beautiful surroundings. Food is French/Viet Namese. Only a tiny bit outside anyone’s comfort zone. Great prices and quality for wine and cocktails.

We brought our kids who are in their 20s to Pasteur on Saturday night. The food was fresh and flavorful and the service very prompt and friendly. Overall, a fantastic experience. We ordered several meals and appetizers and enjoyed all of them. The desserts were beautiful and tasty without being too sweet. If you go, order the Ginger Pear cocktail. I can't wait to have the chance to go back 😊 Finally, the atmosphere was perfect for those who want to enjoy their meal and conversation with a bit of background music and soft lighting. It was a happy and enjoyable experience for all.

Lovely place with plenty of vegetarian/vegan options. Service was swift and sure, food was great, and we will definitely return as we had planned to have the hotpot but did not leave ourselves enough time between dinner and the show. Saw it on someone else's table and it looked amazing, so we will return!

We had the chicken curry and beef curry. Both are delicious. Both start with the yellow curry but the other flavors brought into the dish give each a unique flavor. For dessert, loved the green tea ice cream with the expresso shot on top. Our visit was a special occasion. The atmosphere is very relaxed. A great neighborhood spot.

My wife and I have eaten at Pasteur a number of times, just the two of us and also with friends. It is our favorite restaurant in Edgewater. The food is outstanding and very tasty. The menu is diverse and interesting, and offers gluten free options that my wife appreciates. Our server always works very hard to provide a lovely dining experience. A terrific restaurant.

They were understaffed with only one waiter. He was lovely but could not do it all. We waited one hour and a half for food once we ordered. Clearly not his fault but would not recommend the restaurant due to service issues.

Unique and comfortable atmosphere with great food and friendly helpful service. I thought it was a gem that we will visit again to enjoy their outdoor space in the spring and summer. The Pho was the best I have ever had.

Been over 25 years since I last ate at Pasteur (Sheridan and Lawrence). Didn’t disappoint; the food and service is just as good as I experienced at the original location. I really liked the ambiance of this restaurant. Don’t know why I waited so long to go back.

Pasteur is one of our favorite restaurants in Chicago. The food is always amazing, (my favorite is the Clay Pot Tofu) and the ambience is wonderful. The in house mixologist is fantastic, and the service is great. Pasteur has earned lifelong patrons. A Northside treasure!

Excellent as always. We enjoyed the egg rolls and dumplings for starters. The lemongrass chicken had an amazing sauce. But the bread pudding stole the show!

It has been a while since I’ve been to this restaurant and was so pleasantly surprised. The food continues to be very good but the most outstanding part of the evening was the service from Mia. She was the only person working that night and did a terrific job of keeping everyone happy and fed.

Just went to Pasteur with a date and we had a lovely meal. Food was superb including the Saigon crepe appetizer, their signature beef entree and the vegetarian clay pot entree, good wine and lovely ambiance. Only complaint was that service was a little slow as there appeared to be only one wait-person on duty when we were there

Always a great experience with fantastic food. The ambience always makes you feel like you're transported somewhere tropical/warm/humid. It's never very crowded when I've gone. Our server overheard me wishing my friend Happy Birthday and showed up at our table after our meal with a delicious slice of chocolate heaven with a lit candle. I never mentioned it was my friend's birthday otherwise, but she overheard and acted on her own. So sweet! I especially love the honest recommendations servers have given, but absolutely no pressure to hurry your order along. A visit to Pasteur is always a relaxing, easily paced dining experience to sit back and enjoy your food, drinks and fellow dinner guests.

Pasteur features authentic French/Vietnamese food in a beautiful and comfortable setting. The dishes are delicious and the service is impeccable. There’s no other place like it. It’s a gem! Gorgeous outdoor space to enjoy in warm weather as well.
