What Insiders Are Saying
Ottolenghi is a casual restaurant and deli that serves fresh Middle Eastern-influenced food, pastries and excellent salads.
Good food, but very noisy. Early Saturday AM and already filling up with parties.
Too noisy for me.
Our first dining experience at Ottolengi, I enjoyed the explosion of flavours and different dishes. Will come back.
Such a treat for the eye and taste buds. My first full Ottolenghi experience was a great one. Service was also exceptional.
Service and food outstanding as usual. It’s a must do in London. Next trip Nopa snd Rovi.
Superb food, excellent service; each dish was 100% fresh with unique ingredients
Imaginative dishes using more unusual veggies - so tasty
The general salad wasn't very fresh and the bread a bit burnt. Otherwise service was pleasant and location good. A little noisy as tables are too close from each other.
delicious beautiful food, friendly charming service - always pleasurable.
I took my friend for a 50th birthday lunch treat. The food was delicious and service was excellent. The waitress thoughtfully delivered the dessert with a candle in it the finish of our special afternoon.
Delicious food, lovely atmosphere and a very helpful waiter. One of my favourite places to eat.
Ottolenghi does not disappoint. This place is awesome. Nearly every dish we had was my "favorite." Perhaps my most favorite was the duck croquette... or the lamb meatball... or the eggplant with the green chilis and pomegranate... Not sure - it was all fantastic. The carrot cake was incredible as well, and I consider myself somewhat of a carrot cake connoisseur. Out of the 9 dishes and desserts we ordered total, there was only one that I wouldn't order again and even that wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as everything else (the hazelnut cake with chocolate chunks).
The food was amazing some of the best I've ever eaten! The service was also great the waitress was friendly and attentive. The only thing we thought was strange was vat being added to the bill at the end came as a bit of a surprise.
Poor service and too loud.
Good choice of food & beverage
Great food amazing flavours yum! The menu was just great loved the shop too. Will be back
It was lovely food, I really enjoyed it. But there was a mix up with our booking. We booked for 3 people and they only reserved space for 2. Seating the extra person seemed to cause them a lot of stress which they seemed to imply was a stress I’d given them. I checked my booking confirmation and I’d booked correctly. I was happy to sit at a small table, but this seemed to annoy them. The table servers were very nice, but there was a long wait for coffee so we’d finished our desserts before they came. All in all I would go back, but with lower expectations.
This was the second time we had this waitress and she was fantastic. She made sure we had a fabulous time and gave us great recommendations.
Food was excellent but service was not very hospitable, quite stressed waiter. The acoustics were terrible we could barely have a conversation between the four of us, so we weren't a big party. But we enjoyed the food very much!
The food was truly amazing and so interesting as we had hoped. However... it takes one unsatisfactory element to spoil a night. Unfortunately we had a waiter who seemed aloof and who appeared disinterested in us a group. He wasn’t engaging at all and advised us badly on how much food to order. This is resulted in us leaving unsatisfied. We didn’t order more as the mains took about 30 minutes to come out. We headed to the 24hour bagel shop close by to satiate ourselves. So disappointed as we had been looking forward to it for weeks.
Great food as usual but the service was a bit disappointing. Which was not the case previously
Love the food!
Very good service and good value for money.
My favourite lunch restaurant.
Very good and felxible reservation process with the reataurant.
Friendly and good welcome and introduction.
Very good food and service.
As the food is served quite quick and it is quite loud you shouldn't come here to have a relaxed or romantic evening (from the perspective of a non Londoner)
The food is excellent but the pleasure is reduced by the noise level which really is very high.
Food was fantastic, absolutely delicious in every way. The service was more than underwhelming, confusion between waiting staff, three incorrect desserts delivered and an interminable wait for coffee. Expensive but food is outstanding, if only the service (and improved quality cutlery, with knives that actually chop) were better
Service was unobtrusive and effective, the food was just gorgeous. We chose one hot plate and two salads each, and then had just enough space for desserts (which were larger than expected), and those finished us off. Good choice and nothing on the menu I wouldn’t have liked to try. There was no rushing and lunch, including a breather for a drink between main and dessert, took about 90 minutes. The atmosphere is great in there, with a few families, groups of friends, a few couples, and some business types. Lots of chatter. Succinct but well formed wine list and a good choice of soft drinks and mocktails along with the regular cocktails which were all interesting and original flavour mixes.
Excellent restaurant. Great food and service. Would definitely return.
Always lovely food here, we had booked a table last minute due to a change of plans, and the only table available was in their ‘cold food only slot’ between lunch and dinner. Although there were three main choices only (all cold), the vegetarian choice had already sold out, so as non meat eaters that didn’t really leave much choice!
Bread and olive oil to start, was home made sour dough and very tasty.
Salads always exceptional, and a plate of four of these was filling and the flavours were wonderful.
Then onto the stars of the show (well according to my husband) the cakes for dessert. A carrot cake and a chocolate Guinness cake, with Baileys icing, both fabulous.
The only real disappointment was the coffee, which was watery and too bitter.
Of particular note was our wonderful waitress. Helpful, fun and just couldn’t have been lovelier.
The food is great, just like all other restaurants from Ottolenghi. Exceptional. The only things is that here at Spitalfields, unlike at Nopi or ROVI you cannot order sharing plates. That is just a shame. But the food... amazing! And the service as well, very kind!
The food is outstanding!!
The food was grossly overpriced for (1) the quantity/serving sizes and (2) the ingredients used. I had heard so much good stuff about this restaurant I was very excited to finally try it. However, the portions were so small for the prices. Over £10 to eat artichoke leaves and £17 for 2 bites of a kebab is unreasonable compared to other comparable restaurant in London.
Beautiful little dining spot ... delicious !...plate after plate!
Fantastic food, lovely to share! And very Nice staf; we were to late but the table was there....
I had the lunch special. The two salad options were creative and excellent. The main course, the beef and lamb kebab was just ok.
As expected the food was fantastic with many dishes being a complete surprise. The flavours and textures can not be found in any other outlet.
My reservation is the service which was very poor, taking nearly 10-15 minutes to get an arrival glass of wine, this continued throughout the evening and with a train to catch later, this did not add to a relaxed evening. Speed up the bar area please!
You come here for the food - truly excellent and good value for the quality (better than pretty much anything else close by).
Staff were also excellent but stretched on a busy lunchtime, might have been a problem if we’d been in a hurry. Room slightly hot and noisy when full as it was when we visited, perhaps a little more ventilation...
Great food, great ambience, great service. I will certainly be returning! Not least because I didn’t have a dessert this time but need to try all the cakes. They looked delicious.
Wonderful food however we’d made a 5:00 reservation and ended up there early and starving. We had no problem being seated however we weren’t aware of fact that none of their hot foods on menu were available until 5:30. We opted not to wait but to eat all the delicious cold salads and entrees- excellent.
Food is always excellent here - as you'd expect from Ottolenghi. Be prepared for it to be mostly cold salads which was a bit of a surprise the first time I went. I'm not talking chicken Caesar, but flavour mashups that will have you salivating - and excellent for vegetarians. Not the cheapest, but not extortionate either - expect around £50pp for 2 courses with wine
Such good food, in a really calm and classy environment.
Relaxed atmosphere, great food, welcoming service. Very nice experience!
