Beautiful restaurant. Food was wonderful. Perfect farm-to-table flavors.
Overall food was good, great ambiance. The initial service was slow. Reservation was late, sat at the bar and it took 10 minutes to get a drink even though four bar tenders were sitting behind the bar near the register drinking orange juice. Even with eye contact it took forever for someone to come get us a drink, which didn’t arrive until we finally got our table. The rest of the service was good once we sat down. Our server in particular was very knowledgeable of the menu and offered good recommendations.
We came here for Saturday brunch before visiting the Broad. (We had previously dropped in after a show at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion and discovered that there was no availability without a reservation, so this time we made reservations far in advance!)
Because it is one of the few brunch options in the Arts District, and because it is pricey and trendy, I was prepared to be disappointed. However, my husband, friend, and I all agreed that it was excellent and we were glad we had tried it!
It's best to approach this as an expensive but fun tasting experience. We followed the recommendation to share plates. We started with the crispy potatoes, which were piping hot and easily some of the most delicious I'd ever had in my life. Next we chose the rainbow trout, which was a bit salty for my taste but extremely succulent and flavorful. Then we had the Donabe, which I thought had a slightly burned flavor (like you'd get with a s'more) but was especially good with the topping. It was small but so rich I don't think we would have wanted more. Finally, we closed out the meal with a funnel cake, which was VERY small but packed a yummy punch with the ice cream and jam. For drinks, my husband and friend both chose the "Roger That" and said it was fantastic; by contrast my matcha cold brew seemed uninspired and watery. It was exactly as they described - matcha over ice - but for $7 I don't think I'd bother again.
Finally, the service was professional, attentive, and competent without being intrusive or pushy. We took almost two hours to order, savor each item as it came out of the kitchen, and then pay. We had plenty of time to catch up and to comment on the meal, and we could hear each other talk, all which was much appreciated.
On the whole, we were very impressed and really enjoyed our time here. It's not a bargain, but if you're looking for something special and memorable before or after a show/museum, this can be a good option!
Fantastic experience for our first time at Otium and we will definitely be back. Price point was a little more than my partner and I typically spend on a night out but great for a special occasion. The service was great, I loved the open kitchen and being able to see the food prep happening in the background. You can taste the intentionality in every dish and cocktail and each has its own unique flavor profile. We especially enjoyed the agnolotti, naan with truffle butter and green tea oreos, and I will have dreams about the chai dollar sign cocktail (I promise it’s really that good).
Always an amazing time, always amazing food! I really appreciate the care with which the kitchen prepares food, given my severe allergies. 10/10 would go always!
The food was superb. I’d eat that ceviche and gnocchi every night!!! I’m a total foodie and it was one of my all time best meals ever!!!
I’ve been to Otium more than a dozen times. And every time it’s amazing. From presentation to complementary favors, it’s always a fantastic culinary experience! Thank you Otium!
Excellent service, drinks, food and atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Really amazing. Loved everything we tried from the naan with chicken liver mousse to the grilled shrimp, the octopus and the pasta. Had very good wine suggestions from super-friendly sommelier Tiffany. Great staff, great experience.
Sat outside for my son’s Birthday. Perfection!
The food was amazing but the service was okay, I waited almost 10-15 minutes just to get my check until I got up and asked the hostess myself for the check.
Incredibly beautiful space, and the food is outstanding, but their cocktails are out of this world!
The food was amazing! Steven new about all the dishes and great great recommendations for what to have!
And the food was delicious
The experience was great overall. My partner and I really enjoyed their service and food. However, we noticed that we were seated in the section along with other minority groups. I’m hoping it was a coincidence but didn’t feel too good about the separation.
Everything about Otium is top level, from the cocktails to the food and especially the service. Unfortunately we were placed next to the window in the back overlooking the construction on the Metro which wasn't ideal but all in all it was a great experience.
Everything was great. From service to the food. Made our special night perfect!
Sat at the chef’s table for our one year wedding anniversary with our parents. We absolutely loved our experience! Delicious, fresh ingredients with a reimagined take on seemingly typical dishes. Will definitely be coming back!
Matthew was an excellent server! We enjoyed everything. We did feel the prices were quite high- especially the wine by the glass.
But all in all, it was an excellent experience.
We went prior to the theater- perhaps consider an early bird pricing for the theater.
Food, drinks, and service were fantastic!
My favorite spot downtown. A 10.
Awesome food!.. I love the “ sharing” idea.. I live next door at the Emerson during the week and usually sit at the bar to eat. The bartenders are really good and the waiters and waitresses in the dinning rooms “get it” when I bring clients and my family!... They make it special!
Food and service was AH-mazing and the staff was so nice and accommodating. Drink menu was a little overwhelming with no substitutes so my girls and I had some wonderful wine. Everything was delicious!
Great food and service as usual
Absolutely amazing! We will be back soon!! Best dinner we have ever had! The Elote Agnolotti is to die for!
Celebrated a late birthday with phenomenal food & cocktails. Elevated LA cuisine at its finest.
Exceptional food and service. The sommelier is particularly amazing. The only criticism I have is that the desert is pretty average. We'll definitely return.
We had an amazing experience! We felt taking care of and catered to in a genuinely hospitable way. The service and food were beyond expectation.
We have been to Otium several times and love it more each time. Wonderful dining experience
Not what expected underwhelming will not be back anytime soon
Creative yummy menu, very nice ambiance, excellent service. Pasta portion could have been a little large, but I would go back for sure!
It was hard to find the place because there wasn’t a sign on the building. However, the truffle fires made everything better! The kale salad with salmon was also delicious.
We made a reservation for 1pm. It was communicated to us that there was an event that afternoon. The service was extremely rushed. It would have been better to have been notified so we may have had the option to come earlier or reschedule to a later date.
Our waiter was outstanding. He answered all of our questions and helped us make great food and beverage selections.
Just wow. The food was awesome but what was even more awesome is the wonderful diverse staff. Every single person was awesome. The food was so amazing we cannot wait to come back.
Each course on the extensive menu was perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. Started with Naan bread with truffle butter and Wagu beef tartare, both unique and delicious. Grilled prawns served on an actual charcoal brazier-amazing! Rigatoni with basil sauce and pistachios was delicious and the pork chop with horseradish spaetzle and beet reduction was outstanding! Excellent service and a helpful sommelier made it a wonderful anniversary dinner. Just enough for the two of us.
Otium always delivers above and beyond the expectations. It’s on the pricey side but worth every dollar. The food is amazing and so are the cocktails. We definitely return very soon..
Everything was fantastic. Food was outstanding. Basil pasta amazing!!!
Awsome experience. Restaurant lives to its hype.
The servers and staff were amazing and the food even better. Loved every part of it!!
