Awsome experience. Restaurant lives to its hype.
The servers and staff were amazing and the food even better. Loved every part of it!!
This review is simple... The food and beverages, outstanding. We came, fully expecting to be impressed, and the food fully lived up to our lofty expectations! Chicken Liver Mousse with Housemade Naan... terrific! Bucatini was great, and the Scallops were perfectly prepared!
However, our service was... lackluster, to be kind. We were seated out in the corner of the patio, and it was quite breezy that evening. I asked our server if the heater could be turned on slightly, but that request fell upon deaf ears, or more accurately, busy ears. The gentleman serving us seemed rushed and spread thin. His menu recommendations came across are robotic. I even tried to interact with him during one description, and his facial expression and body language made me feel as though I was being rude for interrupting his "spiel".
We chose Otium because it is the favorite of a fellow Executive Chef, who is friends with your Chef there, and it was my Wife's choice for her Birthday. As I stated previously, bravo to the Chef and his brigade. STELLAR flavors and presentations.
Do not be mistaken, my wife and I will be back. Probably for lunch, probably for brunch, and perhaps just to sit at the bar for a nosh...
But I will NOT spend my resources on a dinner, that only fulfills one portion of the experience that should be fulfilled, in an operation as beautiful as yours.
Thank you for your time. Your courtesies are greatly appreciated.
We had an incredible experience from the FOH to the BOH.
Trying too hard.
Did not like food.
Should be more simple.
Amazing! Hollingsworth delivers!
The restaurant is attractive and the outdoor dining area was lovely. Service was quite adequate but the food was disappointing--and way way overpriced for what one got. Portions were small--fine for a tapas restaurant but NOT at Otium's prices. The chicken liver mousse appetizer was far from the best that I have had in comparable restaurants The fish was quite good--but not amazing and the pork had a nice garnish but was tough!!! I definitely would not go to Otium again.
Excellent experience. Cocktails were well- balance, creative and delicious. The food was flavorful and beautifully presented. The Octopus in green curry was amazing. I loved the ahi tuna tartare, this dish was bright and fresh. The corn agnolotti was a standout, perfect blend of Italian and Mexican. I can't wait to go back. This is my new favorite spot in LA.
Food was good but nothing blew me away. I had the black cod, the cauliflower and wagyu sashimi.
Black cod- very fresh
Wagyu sashimi - bland. The wagyu was fresh but there was not much flavor
Cauliflower - this was the best. Interesting flavor
The ambiance was cool, I like the open kitchen concept. However, overall the restaurant was loud.
Amazing food and wonderful service! One of the entrees we ordered to share was taking a bit longer than typical so the restaurant offered us an additional appetizer or salad. We asked for a recommendation and were so pleased we shared a wonderful romaine salad that was a perfect palate cleanser before our final entree of duck confit. Everything about the evening was perfect. They even brought out a birthday candle and additional dessert for the one of us enjoying a birthday! Highly recommend this restaurant!
We had an out of town guest and we all loved this dining experience. The choices were interesting and very good.
We loved sharing and trying everything.
Interesting space in a great location. A little noisy. Menu is fairly small, but all of our food (party of five) was good. One irritating thing to watch out for: the check total included a 4% "cost of doing business in LA" fee. It can be removed at your request. Why not just increase the cost of each dish slightly instead of trying to sneak this by unsuspecting diners?
Love coming to Otium for anniversary. Service and food always on point.
Outstanding food and service!!!
This is a real gem!!!! We have never been disappointed and this meal was no exception.............if you only have one dish its the pappadelle with the boar ragu...............another pasta is the rigatoni with pesto foam.............amazing! The wine list is extensive and covers the world...........ask for help if you do not know the names and you will not be disappointed. Aplus!!!!!!!!!!!!
Every time I come here, I'm impressed as if it were my first time. This time around I brought my mom for her bday. My mom is a very picky person and normally likes the comfort of familiarity of your basic food chains (ew, I know). She's usually reluctant to try something new, but Otium blew her mind! I was so happy to be able to show her what REAL culinary skills are and what real food is. You guys made her feel like a million bux & she is still talking about the experience and food to this day! Also shout out to Chef Allison... My mom was soo impressed with the desserts brought to the table. She still cannot believe you made that from scratch! Thank you to everyone at Otium for the memorable experience.
Excellent service, beautiful interior, great atmosphere, brunch was meh, too much carb in use for the nabe, skip their overly sweetened desserts, will try their dinner next time. Dinner menu looks way attractive than their brunch menu.
Lunch at Otium was wonderful. Every dish—and even the cocktail—was fresh, and unique, and delicious. There was nothing here that I’ve had somewhere else: truly a new experience.
Terrific all around
Imaginative and delicious food
Ambiance and service were amazing, cocktails were excellent and some of the food dishes were absolutely outstanding. As we walked up the stairs from the street the aroma of a wood burning grill was very exciting. There were three of us and we ordered cocktails wine and 7 different dishes, our favorite was the shrimp that came out in grill dish with wood embers below, the scallops were cooked to perfection, my personal favorite was the octopus! chicken liver and naan was a hit and chicken and potatoes were demolished quickly. I would definitely go back and would recommend, I wasn’t thrilled with the sea urchin or the pasta dish we had they were okay but not at the same level as everything else. The tomahawk steak looked delicious and enormous and the whole dish will be on my next order
Food was great...until we saw a cook lick his finger twice and continue making pasta without even washing his hands! Will never return.
The entrees and cauliflower appetizer were very good. My wife thought the hamachi appetizer was fishy, and the wagyu on tamaki rice was just so so and not worth the price. The biggest thing is that the wine list is ridiculously lacking in Cabernet wines priced in the $80 to $150 level. You have one choice of an unknown wine under $100, and if you want a quality Napa wine, it’s $200 or $300 or more. This pretentiousness is really off-putting and sullied the whole experience. Came out paying over $350 for two people when we could have had a better experience at Katsuya for about $250. Finally this is the type of restaurant that says no substitutions, even if you want a vegetable instead of a starch. This place isn’t nearly all that to take an attitude like this. Another way it is pretentious and off-putting, when it doesn’t have the goods to back it up.
Won’t be coming back to this restaurant.
Group of four friends celebrating a graduation. The ambiance was superb. The outside with the fire table was tranquil and just what I needed on a Friday night after a long day at work. Service was prompt and attentive, but not so much that our group could not enjoy each other’s company. The only thing that I could have a slight issue with was the portion of the plates. Plates were on smaller size and for prize that paying, could be more filling.
Beautiful space and so conveniently located next to the Broad Museum. Portions were much larger than anticipated so we were quite full after lunch. My favorite was the trout--perfectly cooked and flavored with a brown butter sauce which was not too heavy!
Spectacular food, ambiance and amazing service. We loved everything about it! Will definitely be back to try more.
We've heard so many good comments from friends that we were looking forward to our experience.
The food was good, with a few exceptions. The duck breast was served at room temperature and the sauce was very sweet. The portion size was disproportionate to the price: $44 for 5 small medallions, not even entree sized.
The Naan was different from expected, but that's OK. The way it's listed on the menu suggests that any additions include the naan, which it didn't, and $9 for one naan was pricey.
The rum cake was fairly priced at $6 but it was dry, didn't have any flavor and definitely needed more rum.
Re service: they have a lot of staff, as expensive restaurants often do. But the presence of so much staff didn't result in better service, as we have received at comparable restaurants. We didn't receive drinks for 30 minutes; we told the server that we needed to leave in 1 3/4 hours, yet she didn't take our order for almost 20 minutes.
There was an additional 4% charge due to being in an expensive city, according to the menu. With prices as high as they are here, adding 4% to the menu items would not add that much (for the duck at $44, it would have added $1.76, and 4% for lesser priced items, would have been around $1. This just seemed a way to increase the revenue to the restaurant without raising prices on items.
Overall, the food was very good, but there are many many restaurants in LA, and even within Otium's vicinity, that serve equally delicious food at a more reasonable price (i.e., Bavel, Baco Mercat).
Restaurant staff all were quite taken with themselves without justification for being so. Food was fine, but service detracted. Despite being notified rather brusquely that our server would course everything out for us, food arrived en masse. This included a dish that was abruptly taken off the table even though it included an egg, which required mixing into the hot entree immediately.
We had an incredible experience in all ways at Otium. Aaron our server was outstanding and we were treated with such kindness by all staff. Thank you to the staff at Otium-we feel we had the best dining experience we have had in our marriage. We would highly recommend Otium to anyone-Timothy-the owner and chef has created the best most positive dining experience we feel in the United States.

Great family style lunch. I took two clients and we enjoyed the sashimi, potatoes, short ribs, rigatoni pesto pasta, & arugula salad. I love this spot.
Food and service was excellent. I loved that the cocktail names were pop culture references. I got the Lil Sebastian. Parks and Recreation is one of my favorite shows of all time. The wife and I will definitely be back as there are more things on the menu we'd like to try.
Delicious!!! Everything was so tasty! Service amazing, drinks were unique and great! Can’t wait to return to try other things on the menu.
The modern architecture and decor are a perfect balance of comfort-and-taste. The restaurant's open floor plan glowed during sunset, adding a touch of romance. Every single person that tended to us was friendly, welcoming, and smiling. Our server was very approachable and gave us just the right amount of attention--she was never "too" present and we never had to try to hunt her down. The standout of the entire experience was the food, hands down. Everything was delicious. My two favorite dishes were the octopus with coconut milk and the pork chop (probably, one of the best I've ever had). I'm excited to return in the future.
We knew the food would be good but the service was exceptional and warm. We were there for late brunch with our children as to avoid more formal dinner hours. Regardless, the server was so thoughtful and welcoming to all of us. Get the fried chicken if on the menu!
Horrible first impression with a rude hostess. 180 degree turn with fabulous manager, exceptional food and even better service. Thank you very much.
Was busy but food and service still excellent.
Wonderful experience! I was able to bring 4 people over 80 with very particular tastes and they still loved it. The food was divine - each dish was unique and delicious. The presentation was exceptional and the service was very attentive. Definitely a highlight of our LA trip!
Otium lives to its expectations. The service is excellent since the moment you arrive and the staff is attentive and courteous. It’s food delicious, properly cooked and timed perfectly to your needs.
One of the best restaurants in LA today.
I will recommend it to anyone!
Don't be fooled by the 3.5 lb Tomahawk! It doesn't exist! We ordered this for 3 burly men looking to enjoy some red meat only to be served a "half" serving 40 minutes later. When we sent it back, the waiter insisted he told us that only the "half" serving was offered. There is no "half" order listed on the menu nor were we told this before ordering. In fact, we were encouraged to include more people on the order by the wait staff. Otium compromised and gave us back our "half" order at full price but provided a complimentary chicken breast and round of Buffalo Trace shots? (asked for another round of drinks and this was provided). Oh, and this is after the waiter came back to tell us he had miraculously discovered a spare 3.5 lb Tomahawk steak in the kitchen which could be ready in 4-5 business days (i.e. 45 minutes). Guess they need to put trackers on their Tomahawks, tough to spot in a crowded kitchen!
The other members of our dinner party were served either 20 minutes before the imposter Tomahawk was served or 10 minutes after (for a blackened cod?). So it was great to watch everyone eat their food while you waited. My personal favorite was watching Andrew eat mussels.
Also, would note the overall wine menu provide poor diversity. You can either get a $25-$30 bottle or pay $500 for the one George Clooney tried and sent back.
Not worth the price tag or being served off menu items by accident. Stay woke, fake Tomahawk steaks are creepin.
