Oscar & Bentleys
We have an interesting selection of vegetarian, gluten & dairy free options available at all times.
Love Oscar and Bentkeys. However really sad that it is no longer open in the evenings on a Tuesday. We had to have pre graduation brunch rather than post graduation dinner as planned. Sadly it will probably be our last visit as we don't have a need to visit Canterbury any more and live 5 hours away.
Food was all very average.
Service was good.
Will probably not return.
Outstanding food with a wide choice of dishes. Super friendly & engaging staff. Excellent value. Already looking forward to my next visit!
A regular visit to Oscar and Bentleys as the food is so fresh and delicious(as well as being gluten free). There is s good variety of food to choose from and their cakes are delicious. We were not disappointed during this visit.
Third time here and this was the best yet! Lovely food, with a slightly improved menu containing the old faves but a couple of new additional dishes too! We had cauliflower and calamari to share to start, both lovely. Then we had the sweet potato and falafel salad, king prawn curry, pulled pork bap, Spanish omelette and fish & chips. The only slightly disappointing dish was the Spanish omelette which was definitely not a Spanish omelette - just an individual dry veggie omelette. I would either take this off the menu or learn how to make a proper large Spanish omelette (just 3 ingredients potato egg & onion) offer a large wedge of this with a small side salad.
Nonetheless everything else was delicious. Should say, everything is gluten free and lots are dairy free
Delicious Gluten and Dairy Free options. Best Gluten Free Fish and Chips I’ve eaten.
Absolutely superb service! I don’t normally bother with reviews but definitely felt compelled to do one for here. Visited last Saturday evening with my boyfriend and had a great meal. Excellent cocktails also!
I will definitely return on the next visit to Canterbury. Glad we cancelled our reservation at the Cuban and booked here instead.
Great tasty food, and lovely service. Four starts not five as we would have preferred a slightly quicker service, but that’s just a personal view, really... would definitely recommend it!
Service was impeccable, food was delightful. A new favourite!
Lovely choice of gluten free food here including nice puds. Great service from friendly staff. Nice and close to the Marlowe theatre too.
This is definitely one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to! After a warm welcome from the friendly staff, we were shown to our table on the 1st floor where we had an absolutely outstanding vegan meal at a very reasonable price. Great wine & beer choices too. I honestly cannot recommend this restaurant enough & can not wait until our next visit!
Having eaten the previous night in Café du Soleil, where we were ignored for 30 minutes, it was very nice to receive a smiling, warm welcome. The service which followed was excellent, always present and attentive, but never too pushy. We all enjoyed our starters and main courses, and felt that by Canterbury prices, the meal was good value, well prepared, and well presented.
The ambiance is relaxed and cheerful, and as the restaurant is in the heart of the city, you are very close to whatever touristy thing you plan after eating......
It was altogether a very pleasant experience, and we will be returning to Oscar and Bentleys soon!
Have visited Oscar and Bentley several times have never been disappointed.
Food always good quality and plentiful, staff friendly and courteous.
Most importantly food good for people who are not gluten intolerant also.
The food was delicious, especially the summer fruits crumble and the Lebanease cauliflower and the restaurant was really well presented. We were one of the only people in there so the noise level was really low, making it a peaceful experience, however the service was a bit haphazard because the waiters always looked a bit flustered.
Always a fantastic meal and so easy with my gluten free friend. She can choose anything she likes.
Food was pretty good, starter was excellent, mains pretty good although the Bun with the burger was akin to cement. Service really let the place down, initial chap was excellent but once he left it all went downhill. 2 wait staff and maybe 4 tables. The staff were just not around, waiting 30+ minutes before calling to get the desert menu and then had to request that our plates were cleared. Waited ages for someone to take our desert order but nothing, paid and left. Shame...
A warm welcome, with bright and cheerful ambience, yet soothing. The fish and chips meal was delightful. My vegan wife thought the options were limited, given the advertising about vegan food. A very pleasant experience.
Great Service, Great Food, rather hot inside, could have done with turning on air con.
We have been to Oscar a dirty burger and a battered chicken burger with chunky chips and onion rings, with bread and oil to start - as much as we wanted dessert we were far too full! Being a non coeliac myself, I wouldn't have been able to tell it was gluten-free, with the exception of the bread starter.
With very kind considerate waiting staff, good and varied menu, with excellent well presented food and good value for money.
Fabulous food and great service. Would definitely recommend to all friends
Finally, we found a gluten free restaurant and the food was top quality, warm and friendly staff, great atmosphere and lovely decor. More restaurants need to take a leaf out of O&Bs restaurant. If they can cater for those with gluten free and allergy issues, then others can too.
Highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning again soon.
Well done O&Bs!!
Excellent meal and service, food was lovely.
We will be back.
Best Gluten Free restaurant in and around Canterbury. Everything on the menu is Gluten Free and the Fish and Chips was absolutely delicious. I've eaten here a few times before and the food has always been delicious. The only thing I can say needs improving is attention to customers, every time I've eaten here it does feel like staff ignore you and don't check if you need anymore drinks or anything for the table. Other than that it's a great place to eat and the food is always incredible.
The food took a very long time to arrive but it was delicious and very baby friendly
This was our second trip and the fantastic gluten free fish and chips is an absolute must.
We love that everything is GF. Well done guys.
Despite requesting a downstairs table via this website we were allocated a table upstairs which I couldn't accept so they gave us a table by the door and it was freezing! Waitress very friendly (her first shift) and food was good, especially for my gluten-free friend! Just a shame that being so cold made it an uncomfortable visit.
It’s was very good you couldn’t tell it was gluten free and being one myself I was very happy which the choice I could have, I’ll be returning in the near future with friends 100%
We booked here based on previous reviews but were disappointed with unimaginative garlic bread, tasteless pasta as well as risotto. We wondered if the usual chef was off and were unlucky?
I would not particularly recommend this restaurant but equally I would not avoid it. The starters we had sounded more interesting than they were, all of ours were something deep fried with a dip. The mains were fine but my husband did not think his burger very good and while my son enjoyed his lentil burger it was pretty small. I had the cassoulet and enjoyed it. The desserts were equally average, sticky toffee pudding was fine but it was a sponge with sauce, not sticky (though this is a common fault, I am impressed when I find a genuine sticky toffee pudding). Good range of drinks and cocktails, excellent service. Seating close together but OK, it did not seem intrusive. Overall a reasonable experience, I would not rush back but would not turn down an invitation.
Another very enjoyable evening at Oscar & Bentleys. We were a little early but our table was ready. The menu choice is very good, very well priced and they have the best wine list I’ve seen in ages. The food came out hot and the waitressing staff did their best to keep up with the full restaurant. Looking forward to going back again soon.
I've been to Oscar and Bentleys a few times now. As a coeliac this place is great for me! Unfortunately, I visited on 30/03/2019 and it was the worst visit I have had here. We waited over 45 minutes for food and yes, I should have double checked the menu but it wasn't stated by the waitress when we ordered the Dirty Burger that it didn't come with chips! Who orders a burger with chips?!
We enjoyed our quick pre-theatre dinner here. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxed, the service was friendly and efficient and we both enjoyed a very well cooked main course with a nice cocktail and a glass of wine.
Superb food well priced and served by very hospitable staff. Everything you need for a special meal out.
Sorry but the service was not very professional. Wasn't told until we had made our choices that there was no salmon and the same happened again that a desert was no longer available but only after choices had been made. We should have been informed at the handing out of the menus on both occasions.
There were two members of staff out front when we were there, one with glasses one without. We were seated by the staff member without glasses, she was fine and was completely OK with us having a babies buggy next to our table (we had 3 children with us in total).
The staff member with glasses however made it very clear to us that, if the restaurant became busy, we may have to move, this despite the fact that the restaurant was only half full. It simply wasn't a comment that needed to be made.
I had to approach the till desk to order and, we only came in for ice cream and cake, when the order arrived, my children's deserts were far better than the adults, despite the adults version (of effectively the same dish) being 3 times the price of the children's.
We have been to O&B's many times in recent years and this was by far the poorest and least enjoyable visit to date.
This is terrible, I'm so sorry. We love encouraging families with children & babies to visit with us so I am at a loss as to why this was said to you. I will be following it up with the staff who were working on Sunday. Thank you for letting me know - definitely not the standard I expect from my staff
food was not great and very greasy my partner left her whole plate of food as I was full of grease the when the waitress picked the plates up she didn't even ask why the plate had hardly been touched i can only presume this happens a lot and she was embarrassed to ask
Hello I'm so sorry about this, your waiting staff should always ask if everything was ok, particularly if you've left food. This is not something that happens, the last time was several years ago so I'm at a los as to why it's happened now. I would possibly encourage you to bring anything like this up at the time (even if not asked) as I now don't know what the dish was or cooked it. I will investigate as thoroughly as I can on the information given
As a coeliac it's so good to be able to eat out knowing all the dishes are gluten free. The food is very good too, decent selection and tasty.
Very nice food and great to eat somewhere 100% gluten free
Extensive gluten free menu, friendly staff, cosy low-key atmosphere, reasonable prices. Would like to visit again if & when I'm next in Canterbury.
