We each look forward to welcoming you to Oriole.
What Insiders Are Saying
Oriole is a fancy and expensive tasting menu restaurant that’s great for a special occasion.
Outstanding in every regard. Recommend doing the wine pairing...it makes it that little bit more expensive but totally worth it.
Probably one of the top 3 restaurants in the city. Amazing experience every time. Thank you for a wonderful meal and great service across the board. Won't post photos to not spoil for new guests but the dishes were not only smartly crafted and coursed, but also all very delicious.
Over the top in every aspect. It's not just an excellent dinner but an exceptional experience. Would have given 6 stars if I could.
Food was as splendid as last visit. Service was not as efficient, caring, or as skilful. Meant the overall experience was not as good
Honeymoon! One of the best meals we’ve had!
Great splurge and great experience! If you had the opportunity to eat at Senza before Oriole, it was great to see the progression where Noah is going. Wish Oriole the best until the next time. Each course was a beautiful tasty surprise. I gave 3 stars for value more for the sticker shock even though everything was done with upmost excellence. Wine pairing took the experience to another level!
Excellent food and service
Truly one of the best experiences. The food was out of this world, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was perfect. My boyfriend (now fiance!) called ahead of time to arrange a proposal, and they made it incredibly special and romantic. I wouldn't change one thing about our visit here and hoping to come back! 10/10.
Amazing in every detail, bite, & sip!
We went here to celebrate a birthday, and from the moment we arrived till the moment we finished the service was nothing short of excellent. The creativity in the dishes was world class, and the freshness of the ingredients were on the same level. If you are someone who appreciates fine dining, and are able to have an experience like this do not pass on it. Chef Sandoval's menu provides a wonderful dining experience, that alone speaks for itself; but the attention to detail and care of the patrons by the staff is what takes the experience from great to memorable. The price point is slightly high, and moreso if you get a pairing however you can order drinks a la carte with the transitioning of dishes with recommendations from the staff as well. Overall, the unassuming entrance under the small awning in the middle of the alley opens up into an intimate space, warmly lit, with a great view of all the action in the kitchen as you wait for your dishes to arrive. We were even given a short tour of the kitchen; such a memorable evening!
Amazing meal with outstanding service. Have eaten at a lot of top notch places and Oriole definitely in top 3 all time.
Had dinner at Oriole on Thursday night (9p reservation), and every single thing was excellent. The food was absolutely incredible, delicious, creative, unique, and seasonally appropriate. However, the service was even better. Every aspect of the experience was clearly well thought out and flawlessly executed. The staff were warm and friendly, highly knowledgeable, and eminently professional. The space itself is fantastic as well - cool design, comfortable, and somehow quiet without making you feel awkward for carrying on a lively conversation. The kitchen is open to the restaurant (as in fully open - floor to ceiling) yet operates in near-silence. The pacing was perfect, there was never an awkward wait between courses but also never a feeling of being rushed; the staff was extremely attuned to our pace and adapted accordingly. I cannot recommend Oriole highly enough for what was easily the best dining experience I have had in Chicago to date (which includes many of the spots similar to Oriole around town).
Worth the price. Surprised that I left very full and satisfied.
Came here to celebrate my wife’s 30th birthday. From arrival to ending, service was amazing and very attentive. The staff even signed a birthday card and surprised my wife with it as well as a personalized menu at the end wishing her a happy birthday! Food was excellent - let yourself be surprised. Ambiance was great and the limited seating made it feel very intimate. We didn’t do the wine pairing as we elected to bring our own special bottle of wine (Corkage fee was $50). Overall this was an amazing experience!
Spectacular cuisine with outstanding wine paring combined with professional staff make for a memorable dinner. Will definitely return
The best culinary experience I have ever had in every aspect. The best meal I’ve eaten and some of the most well paired wines I’ve ever had.
Just superb! Way above other 2 stars restaurants!!
Two nights after Alinea I didn't know what to expect from this "newcomer" but WOW!!! Every dish competed with the one before to be our new favorite. We've eaten all over the country but I can safely say this has surpassed Eleven Madison Park, Per Se, Le Bernedin and, yes, Alinea. New Favorite restaurant - thank you Oriole.
We had a fantastic experience at Oriole. The food was phenomenal and the service was outstanding. Thank you!
Oriole provides one of the best dining experiences in Chicago. I enjoy dining at Oriole and take great pleasure in treating friends to a rare dining experience there.
Food was good but not innovative enough.
A succession of highly imaginative dishes, perfectly paced and all executed at consistently top quality!
Absolutely fabulous as always. I think this was my 14th or 15th time there (I’ve lost count), and can’t wait for my 15th or 16th. A post-dinner cocktail at Kumiko only added to the luxurious evening.
FABULOUS. Possibly the best meal I've ever had. The service really took it to the next level.
Wonderful food and service. Creative, playful and plenty to eat in total (each course seems like you crave more but at the end you’ve full).
I continue to find it the best Restaurant in Chicago. Incredible food with brilliant wine pairings. Unique location and charming decor. Prices are high but worth it for special occasion.
Fabulous dinner, service and wine!
Best restaurant in Chicago and Top 5 restaurants in the country.
The best Michelin starred restaurant In Chicago!!
From the time you walk in the outer door of this old building to receive the warm welcome drink, and are then admitted through the massive horizontal doors that are part of a still-functioning elevator, the experience at Oriole is personal, of the highest quality, and ultimately very satisfying.
I have never eaten food prepared with such attention to detail, where the unusual ingredients complemented each other so well, and were never combined to shock or be novel for novelty's sake.
I am in awe of the mind that can think about flavor and texture in such a way as to produce these kinds of dishes. The highlights for me that particular evening were the fois gras with frozen creme fraiche and strawberries, the japanese milk bread with ramp butter, the loup de mere, the unbelievable capellini and the pea sorbet.
The wine pairings were lovely (mostly whites), but there was a lot of wine (about 18 oz per person). Nobody forced me to drink it all (I couldn't), but I would likely have been just as happy ordering a half bottle of white and half bottle of red for the two of us. The verbal descriptions of each wine were a little over-detailed, but not in the least condescending. I just didn't need to know whose feet trod on the grapes!
The service is highly expert, warm and genuine without a hint of pretence. I got the feeling that the staff were very proud of their positions, which they had worked very hard for years to get, and felt honored and lucky to be there.
I gave 5 stars for everything except value, only because it is hard to argue that any meal for two that costs over $700 (with wine pairing) provides true value for money. Would I go back? In a heartbeat.
First time, but I have eaten high-end and this is one of the best so far across the board. Service, food, ambience.
It's a definite must try for any foodies who want to experience culinary refinement.
Simply phenomenal. From beginning to end a fantastic experience.
Amazing. We made a special trip from out of town and this was a definite highlight of the trip. I dream about going back. Each course was so good. Seafood heavy, and definite Asian influence, both of which I love. Two of us got the reserve wine pairing (great selection), and two of us had the non alcoholic pairing. It was a great way for the non drinkers to enjoy some very tasty drinks. Definitely worth the experience. Service was friendly and attentive without being snooty.
Amazing! AMAZING did I say AMAZING. Wow 👏🏼👌👍🏽👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🎉
Best meal I've ever had. Wine pairing was thoughtful and fit perfectly with every course.
Given I was back in Chicago I decided to revisit, after several months, Oriole. The menu on this visit contained a lot of new items/combinations while retaining my favorite courses (i.e. capellini and A5 Wagyu) from my prior visit. The remaining courses were highly inventive and creative; definitely pushing the taste and texture boundaries to new levels of complexity. For me every course was highly enjoyable. The berkshire pork course was particularly inventive and the japanese milk bread introduced a dedicated bread course to the experience. So why 4 stars instead of 5? The quality of the service was not consistent with an establishment of 2 or 3 Michellin Star status/aspirations. During my evening at Oriole I was attended to by at least 6 different persons. In my opinion this 1) introduces a degree of chaos to what should be a relaxed dining experience and 2) reduces the degree of personal service received. The service seemed more mechanical/rehearsed, during this visit, instead of genuine. In addition, there was one attendant who behaved as if he did not want to be there; mumbling things instead of concisely communicating with me and other patrons.
Exceptional. In a class of its own.
It was incredible. Every course was stunning, the perfect place to celebrate a special birthday.
Great experience, wonderful service, food and ambiance.
