The best Michelin starred restaurant In Chicago!!
From the time you walk in the outer door of this old building to receive the warm welcome drink, and are then admitted through the massive horizontal doors that are part of a still-functioning elevator, the experience at Oriole is personal, of the highest quality, and ultimately very satisfying.
I have never eaten food prepared with such attention to detail, where the unusual ingredients complemented each other so well, and were never combined to shock or be novel for novelty's sake.
I am in awe of the mind that can think about flavor and texture in such a way as to produce these kinds of dishes. The highlights for me that particular evening were the fois gras with frozen creme fraiche and strawberries, the japanese milk bread with ramp butter, the loup de mere, the unbelievable capellini and the pea sorbet.
The wine pairings were lovely (mostly whites), but there was a lot of wine (about 18 oz per person). Nobody forced me to drink it all (I couldn't), but I would likely have been just as happy ordering a half bottle of white and half bottle of red for the two of us. The verbal descriptions of each wine were a little over-detailed, but not in the least condescending. I just didn't need to know whose feet trod on the grapes!
The service is highly expert, warm and genuine without a hint of pretence. I got the feeling that the staff were very proud of their positions, which they had worked very hard for years to get, and felt honored and lucky to be there.
I gave 5 stars for everything except value, only because it is hard to argue that any meal for two that costs over $700 (with wine pairing) provides true value for money. Would I go back? In a heartbeat.
First time, but I have eaten high-end and this is one of the best so far across the board. Service, food, ambience.

Amazing. We made a special trip from out of town and this was a definite highlight of the trip. I dream about going back. Each course was so good. Seafood heavy, and definite Asian influence, both of which I love. Two of us got the reserve wine pairing (great selection), and two of us had the non alcoholic pairing. It was a great way for the non drinkers to enjoy some very tasty drinks. Definitely worth the experience. Service was friendly and attentive without being snooty.

Given I was back in Chicago I decided to revisit, after several months, Oriole. The menu on this visit contained a lot of new items/combinations while retaining my favorite courses (i.e. capellini and A5 Wagyu) from my prior visit. The remaining courses were highly inventive and creative; definitely pushing the taste and texture boundaries to new levels of complexity. For me every course was highly enjoyable. The berkshire pork course was particularly inventive and the japanese milk bread introduced a dedicated bread course to the experience. So why 4 stars instead of 5? The quality of the service was not consistent with an establishment of 2 or 3 Michellin Star status/aspirations. During my evening at Oriole I was attended to by at least 6 different persons. In my opinion this 1) introduces a degree of chaos to what should be a relaxed dining experience and 2) reduces the degree of personal service received. The service seemed more mechanical/rehearsed, during this visit, instead of genuine. In addition, there was one attendant who behaved as if he did not want to be there; mumbling things instead of concisely communicating with me and other patrons.

Oriole exceeded our expectations. Every dish was full of flavor and creativity. Ingredients were fresh and interesting. The service was intuitive, sharp and friendly. No gimmicks. The pacing was perfect and allowed us to take our time. All around a stand-out dining experience.
This is simply one of the most amazing dining experiences one will ever have the privilege of experiencing. There is an attention to detail and attention to everything at Oriole. Nothing is overlooked and the food is unsurpassed.

My wife and I have been to many fine dining restaurants around the world including other Michelin Starred and Top 50s. Without a doubt the best fine dining experience I have ever had. From the Uni/Caviar starting course to the final dessert sampler, the experience was flawless. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Does not get can't better than this when it comes to varied fla or and textures. Virtually every course a work of art. Many courses are new since our last visit!
The best meal of my life. Oriole is operating on a whole other level. Chef Sandoval is a genius with flavors and the kitchen’s ability to meld complementary tastes while retaining laser-like clarity of a highlighted flavor is uncanny. Examples are the white asparagus creme with caviar and uni - and the crab that cake through in the shumai, broth and Japanese milk bread.
If you want to pay for a Fear Factor food episode, Oriole is not your place. If you want the best meal you’ve ever had - Oriole is for you.
And Oriole’s service is so good it’s going to become an adjective - as in “I sure wish this place had Oriole-esque service”.
If someone asks me what’s the best meal or service I ever had I would say this place. Need I say more?
We took our son to Oriole to celebrate his 21st birthday. He chooses not to drink, so he was able to take advantage of the non alcoholic drink pairing which was a wonderful option. Every bite was perfectly delicious. Not one course missed the mark. Total perfection. I have never seen my son eat so slowly.
You can not help it because you really do want to savor every flavor and texture. I also applaud this restaurant for focussing on the food rather than gimmicky whimsy. Our waitress, Ericka, was stellar. Totally knowledgeable and professional but also welcoming and friendly. The service was perfect. Bathrooms were tidied between customers. The bathroom had little bottles of scope and antiperspirant wipes! They thought of everything. I could not recommend this restaurant more highly.
The food is awesome! I love the food here better than Alinea! Such a wonderful epicure’s night! Will definitely come back! I especially love the foie gras, Loup de mer, soufflé, sushi set and the caviar, and seguí of course!
Fantastic experience again! Our whole group raves about the service level, but were most impressed with how it never felt pretentious. We did not do the pairings this time, but were actually thrilled with the wine bottles recommended. Confirms Oriole as our favorite Chicago restaurant once again.
The food and service were extraordinary and it all starts as soon as you walk in. I have had great service before but I think what sets Oriole apart is just the warmth and ability to connect with the various servers who see you through this amazing food journey.
The food is nothing short of amazing and there was not one item that disappointed. Each portion is perfectly balanced and you feel good and completely satisfied after going through all the courses. The sushi course was great and I would highly recommend doing the pairings with the meal.

Oriole is a once in a lifetime experience. The food leaves you speechless at times and the tasting menu is a well thought-out journey. The service is no less exquisite from beginning to end, and the wine pairing was an excellent complement to the meal. It’s certainly not a place to go lightly for the cost, but when you choose to go, you will come away absolutely wow’ed.
Oriole has become “destination dining” for my wife and me. We returned, for our wedding anniversary, to Chicago specifically to dine at Oriole. We were not let down. The food is amazing and is paired incredibly well, even with the more modestly priced “standard pairing”. Our service was similarly outstanding, which is what one would expect at this price point, however the individual care leaves a lasting impression.

Knocked my socks off this experience just as well as they did the last time. Accommodated all my food allergies and preferences. Much appreciated! Only thing I would recommend different is asking on the front end and/or save space at Kumiko, should you want an after diner drink.
Oriole brought the two of us 'Ratatouille' moments- the taste, smell and mixtures of flavorings, spices, sauces and artisan cooking really and truly transported both of us like Anton Ego, to places we'd experienced fondly as kids! We've eaten at some of the finest restaurants on four continents and this is the place to experience an art form that will linger years after the fine food at the table has disappeared! Thank you. We shall return meal passports in hand!!
This was one of the best meals we have ever had. Rarely, even at the very best restaurants, does every single dish deliver on its promise: at Oriole, every dish was transcendent.
