Rack of Lamb
creamy polenta red pepper ragout, rosemary jus
potato gratin, asparagus, barnaise
There were 2-3 items not available off the menus, which, isn’t their regular menu. It was a severely limited menu. Seeing as there was no one in the restaurant, or lounge, it was odd.
But the service and taste of food was great.
Great food and service
Fantastic service. Extremely disappointed in the menu. Should have been told steakhouse menu didn't exist right now.
Made a dinner reservation, and was never told the restaurant was closed, was offered a bar table and an incredibly limited menu. Not something we should have had to deal with for an anniversary dinner at what is supposed to be a a premium steakhouse. Will definitely not be dining here ever.
Well we stayed at the Marriott and I had made reservations not really realizing what type of place this was I thought it was more of an upscale restaurant. When we got to the octagon for dinner the ambience was nothing that we thought it would be. Very outdated definitely needs an upgrade but the service and food were outstanding if you’re looking for ambience this is not the place if you’re with your kids and wanna grab a burger or have a nice steak dinner and have great service this is the place thumbs up
The service was outstanding and the restaurant had a very pleasant environment. The menu at the restaurant was extremely limited which came as a surprise since on the website there is a huge variety. The salmon that some of us ordered was outstanding. Two of the guests ordered the steak. It was pricey, and they were surprised to find the meat tough. A big disappointment. I would recommend that the restaurant inform potential patrons that the menu does not reflect the availability when dining.
We enjoyed the food and the evening
Description in open table is so wrong. Menu was incredibly limited vs what is advertised. And no way they won a wine spectator award any time recently. They have like 10 Cabernets on the list - first one was out, couldn’t find the second, finally found one. Food was uninspired.
We have eaten at Octagon twice before while visiting CT and knew the menu. When we sat down we were not told it was a limited menu due to a dance competition, we over heard another table asking why so few items. We had already ordered drinks and were not about to leave but very disappointed. We were never informed of this when making reservation, checking in or when seated. Food was ok, not what I would have ordered and the restaurant needs a makeover... tables are all chipped and look dingy. When you are a steakhouse and charge steakhouse prices you expect the decor to be neat looking. Won’t be returning.
Meh overall. The hotel was slammed with a dance competition and convention causing apparent ‘in the weeds’ service. Heard a lot of ‘I’m sorry’s to tables around me. We had a cocktail served to us in a plastic cup, and my 42 dollar ribeye was room temp...cooked hastily, prob get a comparable piece of meet at a Denny’s. Nuff said. Very possible it was an ‘off’ night but...
Wr were greeted warmly and promptly seated. Server was attentive and pleasant and knowledgeable. Due to it being a Holiday, menu was a limited selection, but offered a good variety.
Food was ok. Caesar salad was less than fair entrees were ok nothing special. Waiter so busy apologizing to the table next to us he never gave us the time of day. We asked for the Caesar salad to be split for two. Oops he forgot. Told him the octagon Chardonnay was not very good. Well too bad for me, order something else. He credited the people next to us for so much I thought he was going to tell them everything was free. Not our first time here but it has changed dramatically since our last visit.
Limited menu due to dance group there . Drove 20 minutes , salmon was dried out - wine was not good. My first time there but my best friend raves about it and she was also disappointed .
The food was ok. Filet was supposed to be butterflied, medium-well, but cooked more like medium. They use frozen vegetables in the quinoa. For the price, I’d expect a little better. Wouldn’t rush back.
Didn't meet my expectations unfortunately. The food was just okay. Very fatty NY strip and rack of lamb had very little meat on it. Great service though
Mediocre at best. Do not expect the full menu that is posted online to actually be surved. NY strip - most fatty piece of meat I've ever had. Service was ok. Very nice young woman, when she was around.
Not happy with the ambiance at Octagon. Have been there in the past and it was lively with the open kitchen, which was not in use the night we went. We honestly felt like we were in a diner. Really needs some sprucing up!
It was terrible! No hostess, dining area was closed and had to be seated in the waiting space. No wine list, no bread, extremely small appetizer. Server was slow and rude. Food was over cooked and very small portion. Music was too loud add inappropriate for dining. Not going to return!!
It is a hotel restaurant so lots of transients - not great ambiance as a result
To me, Octagon is a business traveler's restaurant. It reminds me of the places I would frequent when visiting clients around the country. Decent food, service that was geared to get you out quickly (which is what you want when you spent all day in meetings) and relatively drab decor. If I was on a business trip, I would have rated it higher. We were in and out in 45 minutes, including cocktails, salads and entree. Our entrees were brought out minutes after starting our salads and so we asked them to hold them, which they did. This is not a good place to bring a date, but for business it is fine.
The food was good (salmon and steak) and the portions generous.
The service was good, the waiter attentive and there was plenty of staff to keep the tables cleared.
The interior of the restaurant could be improved visually, and there is a very large grill and hood with circular seating (ok, sure, a large octagon...) around it in the back that appears to be unused and is just an eyesore. They should put up partitions to hide this when not in use since that area is not attractive to look at. No artwork on any of the walls.
It was not a good experience for my anniversary. We left and went to another restaurant. And really enjoyed ourselves. Sorry
The food and service was amazing, however I feel the restaurant needs an update as it was dated and run down. Also a bit more separation between the hotel bar and the restaurant would make it feel more like a high class steakhouse which the food and service was certainly there.
Great steaks and au gratin potatoes
When reservations were made I specified it was my anniversary, we were placed at an open table which was fine at first. A group of 6 was placed at the same seating as us. I wasn’t there for family dining or to hear people brag about their travels, not private at all. People came in after us were being seated at private tables who were not even appropriately dressed. If it wasn’t my anniversary it wouldn’t have ended with me just leaving without saying anything. This is not how memories are made.
It has changed dramatically since its heyday a decade ago. The good has become lackluster. I had a Swordfish dish yesterday day that. Insistent of swordfish filet swimming in a tasteless noodle broth concoction which I couldn’t decide what the chef was thinking in making it for steakhouse fare. I couldn’t even eat half of it. This is the third time in a row I have been disappointed by my meal here. I don’t know why I keep coming back other than it’s super convenient and you can ALWAYS get s table.
Their needs to be a lot of training here at this property... it use to be one of our favorite places, not anymore. the bar was dirty and dim. The bar tap head appeared to have not been clean as it smelled of sour beer. The bartender was using old used milk crates to bring glass beer glasses from the kitchen into the bar and placing them in the refrigerator. A guest who was sitting next to me asked the bartender three times if they could turn the TV on above the bar, once it was turned on the guest had to ask to have the channel changed from the Marriott station to the US Open. The male bartender handed the remote to the guest and stated "Good Luck finding the channel" very bad service. The bartender(s) both of them, never follow up with any of the guest on their drinks or meals , each guest had to ask for more drinks or accompaniments for their meals. We had a pizza and one drink and we were there for a hour... another guest ordered a Bourbon net with ice on the side, the female bartender charged the guest $2.00 for the ice, the guest looked at us and said, "WOW, she actually charged me $2.00 for a side of ice, crazy, I hate to see how much she would charge me for a splash of water?". This was just a terrible experience.... implement your Marriott Standards and Train the staff.
Great food and service
Filet mignon perfectly prepared. Very good service. Enjoyed meal.
Horrific food. Overpriced. Extremely slow service (one hour and 15 min for food with only two other tables occupied in restaurant at 6:00 pm on a weeknight).
The lamb and the salmon were delicious! Perfect prepared. The only downside was the length of wait. It took a long time to get appetizer and rolls ( although worth the wait)
A very enjoyable experience. The food was good but I expected better. Vegetables small. Ordered lobster Mac and cheese couldn’t find any lobster. Steak very fatty but was cooked as ordered. Service excellent very attentive but not over bearing.
Was staying at the hotel and there’s really nowhere else in the area to eat. Made a reservation but wasn’t needed since there were only 2 other tables filled. Strange for a Saturday night.
Since we don’t eat meat there wasn’t much on the menu. Had the lobster bisque which was very good. Waitress was excellent and suggested just getting a grilled swordfish rather than what was on the menu ( in a soup base). Also had the salmon. Both were fine. Pluses were the service, convince, and atmosphere.
Called and no one answered the phone twice. Had to go down to see if they were even there. Hardly anyone was using the restaurant, now we know why. The service was very poor at best, the food was poor and over priced along with the glass of wine. I have never written a poor review but I would say run to anywhere else to eat!!!
I stayed at the hotel for 2 days and ate at the restaurant both nights. The food was good. I had the Rack of lamb the 1st night and the NY Strip the 2nd night. Both nights, I was provided a food menu then asked what I wanted to drink. The wine/drink menu was separate and I had to ask for it. I also got visits from fruit fly's that seems to like the wine that I picked! Rolls came warm and were delicious. The first night I asked if I needed to pick something from the A La Carte and was told yes. In reality, you do not need to. I selected a sorbet for desert. I asked the flavor, they said Berry. However, they brought out lemon (which I dislike). The confusion came from that the person who asked what I wanted for desert was not the server that I had that night. If you are there, the Octogon is passable. However, I would not go out of my way to go there.
We enjoyed it thoroughly and we had a nice server all going rack as a man effect
Continuously, consistently a wonderful dining experience.
The food was fantastic and our waitress was absolutely the BEST! Thank you
We had a dinner party to celebrate my husbands Retirement.
Surprised to see very few people in the restaurant at 8 on a Friday night. I remember it being very busy and hard to book. The fillet was very good. I substituted brussel sprouts for the potatoes. They came on the same plate and were swimming in maple syrup. This permeated everything on the plate so I removed the steak to a separate restaurant late which helped. We were given a free dessert to share. Very good flourless chocolate cake and cheesecake.
Overall was amazing. Made it a very special birthday night for my wife. Walked in and got seated on time, alot of wine and dessert options made it amazing! Food was delicious, and alot of it! Kind of expensive but jot outstanding for a nicer dinner date in my opinion. Will recommend to friends and colleagues in the near future.
Literally, i cant give an unbiased review. Over 10 years this has been my go to for a great evening of food, impeccable service and stunning wines and steaks.
The staff is impeccable, except for the the two lead bartenders... Roger and Amy.
They are as close to family as you can get. I know this is CT, but someone from Texas that travels for a living, there’s not a dollar value you can put on the warmth and “at home” feeling they give you. Just don’t tell Amy. ;-)
Honestly, I’m a Texas, ridiculous beef guy. They never disappoint. Ever.
