Treat your taste buds: Explore Carlton restaurants
- Restaurant List
We have been going to Donninis regularly for many years. Especially in Carlton but also back in the 90’s to their restaurant on the Pier in Cairns when we lived up there. Living more recently for ten years in Northcote, regular visits to Lygon St became a real treat, a mid-morning coffee, some relaxed shopping and then a wonderful lunch at Donninis was a regular outing. Most recently, last weekend we met old friends for dinner and all agreed it was as good as ever. The zucchini ripieni were delicious, my chicken livers sublime and all the dishes declared delicious. Their own nero D’avola red was so good, the guys drank two bottles! Didn’t see Marco this time but the warm reception and good service continue in his absence. Grazie for a warm ambience on a cold Melbourne night! MoreOpenTable Diner -
Lagging almost 6-months after the grand opening of the magnificent King & Godfree culinary experience, Agostino has arrived, and arrived in grand style. An impeccable and intimate setting with decor that oozes understated charm, the minute you enter off Lygon Street you know that you are in for a treat. We shared an interesting selection of entrees, fresh vibrant flavours, followed by mains that included the fish of the day and ragu. Side dishes were on-point. Wine selections, were by the glass (three on tap), the half bottle and bottle, complemented each course. Staff were engaging, enthusiastic and delightful. Agostino a true classic in the making. I have eaten at Trotters a number of times before, alone or with one companion. This time there were supposed to be four of us but it turned out to be three. We arrived a bit early but our table was ready. Service was excellent and the food likewise. I had the gnocchi with pumpkin (for the third or fourth time) and it was excellent as always. My companions both had the osso bucco, which they enjoyed. It was quiet enough to hold an animated conversation, but without any sense that our neighbours could hear it too. A very pleasant place to eat - especially compared with some of the noisier, over-crowded and over-priced places nearby. And they happily split the bill three ways on cards! MoreOpenTable Diner -
