Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant
A five star lunch experience. All four of us enjoyed our meals. The service was excellent and the ambience one would expect for Mt. Vernon. Would recommend the fried chicken sandwich and the club sandwich. The peanut soup lived up to its billing.
We ate here before for dinner. We were in the DC area and decided to have lunch there. I had the crab cake sandwich and my girlfriend had the mushroom sandwich. Both were excellent. We split the bread pudding.
We have to have lunch or dinner when visiting Mount Vernon. We tried the fried green tomatoes and the chicken and waffle skewers to share and they were quite tasty. My go to is the meatloaf and it did not disappoint. And get the bread pudding for dessert. It’s large enough to share.
Best shrimp and grits north of the Carolina border
This is the perfect place to end a DC visit! Away from the city, down the beautiful Potomac, and at the home of our founding father. What more can you ask for? The peanut soup is a tradition that must be tried. The ambiance is perfect. The gift shop is lots of fun. And it is quiet enough to enjoy lots of good conversation.
Absolutely love the Mount Vernon Inn. Anytime we have been able to dine there, the food has been exceptional. Highly recommend you go to top off your visit to Mount Vernon.
Pleased with the entire experience and we will visit again.
Great experience!! The peanut soup was fantastic!! We had a great lunch and would recommend it to everyone visiting Mt Vernon!
Wonderful server. She was so engaging and responsive. She helped us with our choices of drinks, appetizers and desserts. We should have asked to help with choosing our entree. We split the prime rib and were disappointed in the cut of the meat. It wasn't as tender as we hoped, even though it was medium rare. But, the rest of the food, the drinks and our wonderful young server made up for the meat.
The server (Hector) was not attentive! The vegetables, particularly the green beans, were under-done/virtually raw.
We have been annual members of Mt. Vernon for several years. Please make improvements in the aforementioned areas!
Enjoyed celebrating my husband’s birthday w/a great lunch at the Mt. Vernon Inn. We had reservations and we were seated right on time. We sat in the pub/bar area by a window which was nice. Our service was prompt and courteous. I had the club sandwich w/a cup of peanut soup. My food was good, the bread was a little soggy on my club. The peanut/chestnut soup was excellent. My husband had the shrimp n’ grits. You must love garlic w/this dish. It was good but quite heavy on the garlic!!! We did not have dessert as we had plenty to eat!
My party was waiting for our fourth person, but the Inn will not seat you unless all are there. We did not know if our party would arrive due to other commitments, so they went ahead and sat us. We told the waitress this as well, but she continued to ignore our table - not asking for our drink order or anything until we flagged down another server. The server we had seemed to have an issue understanding us - language problem - and when she saw the other server trying to help she came up and asked what she was doing and then took our order after we had already made it. It took a long time to get our drinks but after that all seemed to go more smoothly. The Inn was busy, and we were waiting on a gentleman that worked at Mount Vernon and who did not eventually arrive. So it would have been easier if the server understood what we had told her. We sat for quite some time waiting.
For Revolutionary werkend
Harry the bartender provided us great service!!!!
Such a great place to have dinner after touring the amazing grounds. Would definitely come back again!
Perfect place for lunch with a friend!
Great place to eat while visiting Mount Vernon. The food was delicious and the service was great. We were seated in the bar area, which was fine. But, the other areas were more elegant. For lunch, are seating was fine. If it were dinner, I’d prefer another room.
Definitely try the peanut and chestnut soup. Sandwiches were also delicious. Be sure to book ahead.
We had to deal with a recently diagnosed dietary restriction; our server was gracious and sensitive in dealing with our questions and requests.
I was at the Inn with a friend on a "mom's getaway" trip. The food and atmosphere were wonderful after many hours of exploring the mansion and property. Elsie was our server and she was a joy! We enjoyed the shrimp and grits and vegetable scampi - service was fast with no rush to leave and the food was amazing.
We love eating at the Mount Vernon Inn ! The atmosphere is relaxing and quaint. Friendly, professional staff. Food is great !
Just perfect. Food was excellent and not overpriced. Service very good. We will be back!
My friend and split several starters and each one was better than the last. It is a great atmosphere and the staff was wonderful.
Love the Potomac room. The Inn is beautiful. Food was good. The jambolya was a bit too salty. Swordfish and turkey pie were very good.
Beautiful place but food quality was below expectations. Need better selection for lunch with some incorporation if historical offerings. Peanut Soup was delicious.
Mount Vernon Inn is a favorite! We try to eat there at least once a month! Staff is always friendly and helpful, professional and efficient. Menu offers tasty modern cuisine with an historic twist!
Service was great. Food was okay. More expensive then it should have been. Captive audience, expect to pay more.
We’ve been going there for almost 20 years. The food is always excellent, the ambiance is perfect. However, the last couple of years we have noticed an absolute decline in the service given by the waiting staff. I don’t know if it’s because of the obvious lack of ability with the English language or if it’s just the attitude towards waiting tables. It reflects negatively on the management and will lead to a decline of return guests.
We had reservations for six people at 4:00 P.M. and were there 10 minutes early. They did not seat us then which is acceptable but they had another party of six and one of the employees sat them at 4:00 P.M. but left us sitting for 15 minutes later. The employee was bragging to the six that "rank has its privileges. They also seated two other sets of two before us that came in after us and one other party that had no reservations. The receptionists at the entrance seated these others and refused to look at me when they both knew that they had done poorly. I got upset and saw the manager and she asked me if we had a reservation. I informed her that the other two knew we did and they had not seated us before others as well as the other employee seating his friends. She finally got us seated and the server was exceptional. She was very attentive. The only other problem was they brought all the food except one thing that my wife ordered and she had to wait at least another five minutes for them to bring it out. Before this happened I said something to our server and I think she "chewed someone out". She apologized for the delay and made sure we got it then.
The food was good, not great and certainly not the quality that would have been expected from a restaurant like this one tied to a very historical place such as Mount Vernon. I am sure George Washington would not have been impressed by it.
In the future I will take my guests who by the way traveled there from Vienna, Austria just to see this exceptional place only to have them being treated poorly by this restaurant staff (except the server) and food that was not that high of quality to some other restaurant that will appreciate having a party of six interested in dinning with them. This is just plain poor!
Great interpretation of fried green tomatoes (caprese salad like). We also had cornbread as an appetizer. It was great, It comes with butter, but be sure to ask for honey to go with it. French dip was flavorful and large portion, could split. Jambalaya was ok, but very large portion for lunch.
This was my second time having lunch here. The atmosphere is so charming and it is the perfect place to take family visiting the area. The food is delicious and they also have a good kids menu. I will definitely be back with family or friends.
The server was polite and attentive. The food was very good. It was a great lunch choice before we toured Mount Vernon!
Consider Mount Vernon Inn a neighborhood restaurant and visit about once a month after visiting estate.
Menu does not vary much, however, includes southern style menu with peanut soup, vegetables, and beef and chicken.
The host station check-in staff needs to better manage the process. We were a few minutes early for our reservation and although there were multiple empty tables, they were not seating customers. The wait staff are very efficient and friendly, however they are not the staff who deliver the entree's. Based on this, mistakes are made as they pick up a dish that may have a different preparation or sauce and deliver it anyway.
Just a wonderful dining experience at an
incredible location. Diverse menu, prepared beautifully and served professionally. It is absolutely one of our very favorite dining place. A must!!!
We wanted a quiet, delightful meal with relatives after a funeral at Arlington National Cemetery.
The Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant provided a special time for us.
The service was impeccable. I have food allergies which often makes it difficult to eat out. The manager immediately alerted the kitchen and my server. The food was outstanding. My husband and I enjoyed the food more than any of the other places we had visited in the area during our trip. Overall it was a great dining experience and well worth the money.
We always enjoy having a meal at the Mt. Vernon Inn when we visit. The food is excellent and the ambiance and service is always exceptional.
The Mount Vernon Inn is one of the Best Restaurants in Region. There is always a great special to try out.
We were in a room with about six tables, but it was adjacent to the bar, and it was very noisy. They could have easily closed the door to the other room to make it quieter. It’s all hard surfaces, so the noise just bounces all over the place. The food was terrific as always. The server was nice, but it took a while to take our order, and she never checked back to see how the food was. I recommend asking for a table away from the bar.
