classic clams, white wine, garlic and extra virgin olive oil
We came from Manhattan visiting Brooklyn, first time at Monte's, and we loved the whole package here. Food was outstanding, wine list was very cool, our waiter was professional, warm, even charasmatic as the rest of the staff was. Seems like a neighborhood gem.
Returned to Monte’s for the first time in decades. Excited to see the renovations. The place, even closed off, looks great, very open and modern, while retaining some of the charm of the old-school original.
The food, however, was bland and unexciting. Too-salty meatballs, grainy mozzarella, and under-seasoned pizzas.
Super- friendly service. Really wanted to like the meal, but the food was just not up to par.
Great food and service.
Everything about this experience was wonderful. We had six people ranging from 26 to 60 and each person raved about the food, service and ambiance. Thank you for a great, safe brunch.
Had the clams and pasta. Got horribly sick from a bad clam. The service, however, was great.
For a place claiming to be the oldest Italian restaurant in Brooklyn, I was disappointed with the food. The service was superb. The backyard isn’t open, so if that where you believe you’ll be seated, not true. Also menu has been updated, from the one presented here on open table. Ravioli isn’t homemade, and had an overwhelming amount of truffle oil. Gnocchi was super chewy and mushy. Again, service was great, just not up to par with what is expected from the oldest Italian spot in Brooklyn.
Love it. The food was great. The tables are well spaced apart in the back garden and feels very safe. It is a good atmosphere for a nice dinner out. We were a group of 6 and it was a great time. Will definitely return !
One waitress was covering entire backyard and she was just overwhelmed. Took a long time to put orders in and get the food.
Great, cozy, well prepared for COVID; delicious food!
We were expecting more of a quality red sauce Italian experience. I’ll be honest, the quality of food in light of the prices disappointed. Veal parmigiana was dry and tasted like chicken. Pasta didn’t come with parmigiana. Pizza was soggy with too many toppings jammed on top. And service was disorganized. Music was also off-putting Italian rap. For nearly $300 for three people this entire experience could’ve been way better. Also what Italian restaurant doesn’t carry Aperol ??
Love love love it!!
Went during COVID, would have preferred more caution from server (no gloves, handling utensils/glasses, standing too close). Food was great though!
Celebrated a friends birthday party and had a great time overall. We had pizzas and appetizers for the table. Pizza is delicious, salads were delicious, calamari was disappointing over cooked. The backyard garden is a very nice escape from the noise and crowds.
Unfortunately the service was terrible. The waitress barely had the energy to deal with us. When we arrived we were seated outside and were not told there was a patio in the back. No effort whatsoever put into making it special. In this pandemic influenced world I am amazed that some restaurants think they can put it in auto pilot. The food was delicious but we will not be going back.
I booked two tables - one for two people, another for four people. Monte's was beyond accommodating, sitting us at a table for eight people with a buffer in between the two families! Super inventive and adaptive in these times. We were seated in the back garden, and it was lovely and incredibly well put together. It didn't feel like an afterthought at all, which sometimes these outdoor seating arrangements do. The food was amazing! All six of us enjoyed our food, it was delicious. The lobster special was a steal! We had the boar ravioli, mushroom ravioli, salmon, baked cod, speck and arugula salad. And a cheese plate! And tiramisu! Delicious and extremely accomodating. Our waitress was a gem.
Excellent service. Prompt. Courteous. Accommodating. Delicious & well prepared food.
Amazing oysters and lovely Italian style pizza. They are offering outside seating. I wish they took credit cards
food was delicious. chef pays a lot of attention to freshness and quality of the product. slightly disorganized in the service area but times are different right now so it's understandable. good experience overall. definitely coming back.
Always go to Montes. Love the food and service. Great pizza too.
It was our first venture out since lockdown. Food was delicious! Staff and service was exceptional. We can’t wait to go back.
Food is overrated and bland. Long story short, don’t waste your money here. I was looking for good Italian food in this part of Brooklyn. Obviously my search continues.
The bread at the start of the meal was slightly more charred than it should have been and that pervaded the flavor. Caesar salad was served lukewarm, which meant it was sitting outside for sometime. Salad dressing was weak, few croutons.
Main dish of gnocchi Parmesan was mediocre. Sauce was only moderately flavorful and cheese was bland. Gnocchi were almost tasteless. I ate it because I was hungry and tired of spending the day sightseeing, and was not about to search out another spot to eat at 9 o’clock at night.
Service was peculiar. I was seated at the bar, which was quite dark and illuminated by small candles. The citronella candles at either end produced a lot of heat which made sitting there a bit uncomfortable. Bartender served as my waitress. She was friendly enough, but made an unusual misstep on the dessert: she offered a dessert menu, then couldn’t produce one because it didn’t exist and they don’t currently offer one. That’s fine, but it surprised me that she didn’t know that.
Overall, highly overrated and mediocre food. Your money will best be spent somewhere else. You’re welcome.
I love Montes because it’s old school with pretty good food. I can’t say I love everything but the pizza is fantastic as are the traditional dishes. The service staff is young and they aim to please. I’ve always enjoyed my visits there and plan to continue.
Service was rough, food was pretty good and ambiance was fair.
Service was excellent. Food surpass our expectations.
It was warm, cozy, old-school, neighborhoody Italian and an excellent experience overall. Would highly recommend to anyone. The pizza was the star of the menu.
We had a great dinner, it was a perfect atmosphere and the food was delicious.
Cocktails were watered down and tasteless. Otherwise excellent
Great find in Brooklyn. One drawback is cash or AMEX only. Great location. Super ambiance. Food was excellent. Would return again soon.
The food is excellent. Great Togo to for a special event.
The place is quaint and comfortable; the service is excellent; the food is fine - not bad, not exceptional; and it’s very overpriced. I’d stick to a glass of wine and a pizza.
A warm friendly neighborhood restaurant with great food and atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Great food. Excellent service. Restaurant had great ambiance and holiday decorations!
Classic Italian fare prepared by people that know what they're doing. Staying true to their roots.
We went for Thanksgiving and the pumpkin gnocchi was light and tasty, the turkey, stuffing, homemade cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes were perfect.
MONTES IS A VERY NICE PLACE TO EAT, DRINK AND HANG OUT. ITS ITALIAN STYLE AND THE FOOD WAS GOOD. NOT AUTHENTIC ITALIAN BUT IT WORKS. I HAVE MIXED EMOTIONS. ALL THE PLATES COME WITH A SIDE PASTA. WOULD PREFER IT COME WITH A VEGGIE. THE SAUCE IS A BIT TOO WATERY. I NEED A THICKER SAUCE. SO THOSE ARE MY HANG UPS BUT THE PLACE WAS VERY NICE. LOTS OF STREET PARKING. RESTROOMS ARE CLEAN. OUR SERVER WAS SO NICE AND ATTENTIVE. WILL BE BACK FOR GENERAL DINING.
Incredible, classic italian, lovely and warm place. Great for groups.
Specified reservation was for birthday, but no acknowledgement from restaurant either way. The food was good and the restaurant was dark and cozy but there were practically no other patrons so it wasn’t a very festive experience.
Duck is a little too I love the way it sounds like a great time
Loved the restaurant and the food and learning about it's fantastic history!! Lived in Park Slope in the late 80s-early 90s and didn't know this place existed. Glad to have found it. Will definitely go back again
Food was great, service was useless. Had to keep reminding server to actually serve us. Spent 2.5 hours there for no good reason.
