Saturday - Sunday: 11:00am - 10:00pm
Service was excellent, the meal was even better. Bulgogi is A-Mazing!
This was our second time going to Mokomandy, never can go wrong by going here. Overall the food is with the drive to try an non-traditional Korean.
Always innovative and superb. Wish we could visit more often. We drive 80 miles to dine!! Creativity is a strong suit. The Caviar small plate is awesome
Service is great. Sky was very nice and helpful with suggestions. The drink menu is one of the best I have seen.
Wonderful experience every time. Our favorite restaurant. Brought friends who never been before and they loved it too.
Extraordinary menu, impeccable service, in a very low-key, comfortable setting. No downside to this amazing restaurant. Reservations recommended.
Visited on a Sunday for a combo birthday/anniversary dinner and noted this on open table when making the reservation. No “happy bday” etc from anyone at the restaurant. I don’t care about free bday desserts but they missed an opportunity to make us feel special as we had chosen them for a special night.
Food was good but not great. Inventive, which is a nice change from all the de rigeur restaurants. Lobster sandwich was a waste of $18. Perhaps 1 oz of lobster meet on the whole thing.
Jambalaya, pine nut/spinach snack, pot roast sliders were great.
Crime brûlée was amazing, pot de creme was covered in a watery milk foam which ruined the rich chocolate flavor.
Cocktails were great-Julia was sweet and talented. Made us a special cocktail she created. Our server was excellent.
Seating is weird. Chairs are too low for the tables but that might be because the cushioning on them is old and flattening.
Value was good and we will be back, just not quite as eager though.
We enjoyed our dinner at Mokomandy last month so much we returned with different friends on Sunday and it didn't let us down. Almost everything we ordered was outstanding, delicious and fresh. We ordered a lot! Almost all of it was from the Korean side of the menu. We left very happy, stuffed to the gills, and with a bill of about $50 per couple, including some drinks. The only dish that was a little less than perfect was the firecracker carrots. The flavor was great but they had used the mini bag carrots that always seem tough - would have been better with whole carrots cut into smaller pieces. The bulgogi and the kimchi pancakes were my favorites. Our Korean friend declared the kimchi excellent. We'll go back!!!
FANTASTIC, relaxed dining experience (Sun, 5pm is great) with small plates to share. Particularly loved the Jalepeno Hush Puppies, Jambalaya and the Arctic Char Ssam.
Fantastic food. Unique. Awesome service. Great cocktails.
Great as always. Servers were great. Drinks were delicious and food is wonderfully different with lots of flavor. Love mokomandy.
Everything was delicious, from the cocktails to dessert.
We had a delicious dinner and excellent service on Sunday night. We were greeted by a friendly and helpful hostess and enjoyed excellent service from Laura. She guided us through the menu and made some terrific recommendations. The entire staff seemed to work well as a team -- my husband and I were very impressed with the knowledge and passion the employees had for the menu offerings as well as the overall restaurant. All the food was delicious but our favorite which Laura recommended was the veal tacos. :)
Great service and food as usual. Our favorite place the eat! The fava nuts are a must if you visit.
After seeing reviews on Facebook and checking out the menu we decided to try this out for my birthday dinner. The server was amazing and the food was delish, but one of our medium plates did take a while to come out. The server took excellent care of us, bringing us extra things to try, and adjusting our bill without asking. I'd go back in a heartbeat, and just make sure to allow extra time.
Excellent meal we loved all the items we tried and will be back!
Really enjoyed our meal. Had a series of small plates. Everything was tasty. The shaved catfish was a standout. Wait staff was excellent in general...we had Janet as our server and she was terrific. My friend and I both had different whiskey cocktails and both were well crafted.
Moderately priced with a fairly diverse selection of tastes to choose from on the menu. Menu itself is not huge but you could eat here pretty often and not run out of variety of things based on your tastes.
This establishment is truly a hidden gem in Sterling, VA. Nice decor, comfortable seating, and the food is nothing short of amazing. A friend and I ordered 3 sides, 3 small plates, as well as 1 medium plate and were extremely happy with every single dish. The food was hot and full of flavor. Very nice combination of familiar Korean and Cajun dishes and some of the best pork belly I’ve ever had. The gumbo, bulgogi, and bison dumplings were fantastic as well. Don’t forget to pick some sides as they are the perfect addition to an already intriguing menu.
The restaurant is busy and lively. I highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time. They seemed a bit short staffed on our visit, but the customer service was impeccable and everyone we encountered was very friendly. I will most certainly be returning and recommending Mokomandy to friends. Awesome singing experience.
I've been to Mokomandy many times. It is not only one of the best restaurants, it's one of the best in the United States. Incredibly creative small plates -- they have medium and big plates too, but I only get the small plates in order to try more things. Tad Kim, the man who started the restaurant, has a Korean father and a Cajun mother, so he combined the two cuisines. He makes dishes that you cannot find anywhere else; some sound strange, but every dish I've eaten here -- probably 25 or so -- is delicious. For instance, I took two friends there for their first time a couple nights ago. One of the dishes we ordered was skewers with octopus and pork belly with a curry sauce. It was spectacular! I take every visitor from out of town here, and to a person they have all been amazed. Back when Zagat used a 0-30 rating system, Mokomandy was the only restaurant in Northern Virginia to get a 28 and one of only a handful in the DC region. It deserves that ranking completely. A plus is that the staff, from the wait-people to the bartenders, is incredibly knowledgeable about the dishes they serve and very nice. They were doing handcrafted cocktails long before it became trendy. They make their own vermouth and have several really creative, delicious cocktails. Finally, given the quality of the food and drink, Mokomandy is reasonable. The other night we each paid $95 with tip, and that included two cocktails apiece. Tucked away in strip mall in the small suburb of Sterling, this restaurant is the definition of a hidden gem. If you go, be adventurous! And leave behind your preconceptions about which foods go together and which ones don't. I've traveled and lived around the world, and this is a Top Ten restaurant for me all-time! My only regret this last visit was that Thad was not working. When he does, he visits the tables and gets to know folks who dine here regularly.
Excellent food. Very different variety. If you want out of the ordinary, tasty, go here.
Julia behind the bar and Chelsea fornperfect, friendly service
Cannot handle children under 5. This is not a family restaurant if your family has young children.
Considering we had a 8:45 pm Saturday table, there were plusses and minuses. They didnt have the octopus skewers, gumbo, or beer we wanted (one thibg unavailable is OK. Three or more gets annoying).Food: Some nice twists on dishes. Foie Gras dumpling were awesome. Veal taco was salty\greasy and could have used some acid or crema. Bison dumplings had a wonderful sauce. Bulgogi beef was enough for 2, and had great tastes and textures. Not so special were the jambalaya (not a great harmony of tastes) or kimchi pancakes (very oily). Desserts were fair. It has a casual feel, with loud noisy energy, and the wait staff is very Bohemian, which I think fits the eclectic theme of cuisines. Overall it is a good place for a casual but non-chain type of dinner.
I love Mokomandy. The service is great, the staff is engaging, and the food is absolutely the best in Northern Virginia.
Always a great date night option. Drinks and food are always great! The menu is always changing so there is a chance to try something new each time we go. Such a gem for the area
As always - TOP!
We have been coming here for several years now, and it has always been top quality. Definitely for those who know their food and looking for something special and unique.
The food was excellent and since it is served family-style, everyone gets to try everything. The venue was a bit noisy, especially when it filled up, but not overly so. Our waitress was very good. I'm thinking they may have been short-staffed as it took her a while to get around to us. Overall, I was very pleased and will definitely go back.
Our waitress was so accommodating and the food was fantastic! I can't wait to return and try some of my favorite dishes.
This was our first time here. The food that we received was good. Our server was also good but clearly overworked, and most likely the same for the kitchen. The initial service, taking our order was slow but ok. We ordered drinks, an appetizer and two of the medium entree-sized dishes. The appetizer came quickly, followed shortly by the first entree. After waiting 40+ more minutes for the second entree we could not wait any longer and asked for the check. The server apologized that the last entree did not come out "quickly enough for us".
The first time my husband and I visited was in 2013 and I decided to surprise him and take him on his birthday this year since he loved it before. The service was great and our waitress was very friendly and personable. Unfortunately, they were out of Gumbo and Shrimp Etouffee. We are Korean and already get our fix of Korean food on a daily basis and were really looking forward to some of their fusion/Cajun dishes. The dishes we did end up having were decent but the short ribs and house made noodles were extremely oily. We got the Jambalaya last time so we ended up getting it again since the other two items we wanted were out of stock. That and the mixed fries were the best items this time around. If we do come back we'll call ahead first to make sure they have certain items in stock.
Good selection of food. Fresh and tasty
It was for sure an interesting experience. Bone marrow is super super rick and oily. Super heavy. Bison dumplings & pork belly+octopus skewers - awesome and yummy! We would definitely recommend for a one time experience.
A most unusual and unexpected, but thoroughly delicious, dining experience! Well worth the drive from DC.
Good ambiance, good food, good service. Will definitley go back.
Who knew? A fusion of Korean and Cajun and everything we had was wonderful - full of flavor and really delicious. Our party of four shared 3 small plates (spicy fava beans, jalapeno hush puppies, kimchi pancakes), and 6 other dishes (housemade noodles, bison dumplings, bison with rice and vegetables, crispy catfish chips, and something else that I can't remember). Each dish was better than the one before and we were very full. The cocktails were very good and there was a large selection of beer and wine. Service was wonderful and we were never rushed. 9 dishes plus 3 cocktails, 1 beer and 2 glasses of wine came out to be about $40 a person. It took 30 minutes to get there from Arlington. Can't wait to go back!!!
Our server tonight was awesome! The food is always great, but the service we had was amazing.
The food here is so good and so interesting. The wait staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Just a great dining experience.
We really enjoy this restaurant. Very imaginative and excellent food and great staff.
This is a restaurant you may want to try when you are tired of the same old food.
It serves Korean and Cajun specialties in a modern atmosphere. The wait service is knowledgeable and professional. You also don't have to break the bank to have an excellent meal.
