Michael's opened in 1989 with much fanfare and continues to create seasonal dishes that live by Michael McCarty's ethos of the best ingredients thoughtfully prepared. Good food, great people, great party!!
Everything was fantastic. Thank you for a great dining experience.
This place had great reviews. Very disappointing. Seated us next to a service stand even though there were many empty tables. The service was good, not great. The food was average.
NO ONE attended to our party of 4 for an unreasonable period of time. That’s no greeting. no water, no menus. No acknowledgment whatsoever that we were paying guests sitting practically in the middle of waitstaff passing all around us. We never had a proper waiter, having had to enlist a manager to pay some kind of attention to us.
This was our first time here, and we were disappointed with our dinner experience. We had to wait too long for what seemed the sole waitress to take our order. We found the prices high for the portion size. We also found the menu limited in choices. The chairs were uncomfortable. Finally, or perhaps firstly, the lighting was so low that I had to pull out the light on my phone to read the menu.
The food was great. Michael came by the table. It was quiet enough so we could talk.
Need to get some Blanton bourbon in the bar.
Michael's is THE place for a good business or social lunch in a great ambiance with tremendous service. I recommend it to everyone!!!
Excellent food... and the fact the owner personally checks in on EVERY table is emblamtic of its determination to maintain its very very high standards.
This is my chosen spot to relax and enjoy innovative cooking. There's always a surprise dish on the go. And, there is never hassle over asking for starter portions of entrées. It's a fantastic, buzzy atmosphere, a bright space and the staff are welcoming and attentive.
Very pleasant experience. Pre-theatre dinner was very good.
Amazing food. Great menu - easy for everyone to find a classic favorite.
Disliked the pork chop cut - fatty and gristly. Great chimichurri, though
Inattentive waiters - near empty restaurant, too
Wafts of old fish from the kitchen twice - adjacent diners also noted - “bad fish!”
Did have generous pours, though
a new york classic where style, great food excellent wines and interesting people meet.
Love being at Michael’s, very welcoming staff. beautiful
art to look at, menu, what else can I say!
We always love Michael's, the perfect mid-town place to dine!
Everything was perfect. Thank you very much. It was memorable evening.
Always love having lunch at Michaels! Great menu and always a festive atmosphere!!
Saturday, not many people. We had a 7:15 reservation and by 8:15 we were the only ones in the restaurant.
I ordered lamb chops and 10 minutes later they came and said they were all out. The quinoa and farro salad was good even though it was mostly greens. Food was very salty.
While we were having coffee they were setting up for breakfast and taking all the candles off the other tables. They were very lovely and gracious.
Go to Michaels in LA, it’s wonderful!!
Very nice space and quiet
Michael’s is truly one of the best restaurants in NYC. The food is outstanding, though, I gotta tell you, there are a lot of restaurants with great food in new york.
What makes Michael’s standout is the service. Everyone here seems happy and treats you like you are the best customer, even if its your first time. Its my happy place. I love it here.
Thank you Danny and the rest of the team for making me feel at home. I will be a patron for life.
Terrific place for power lunch
It’s always a pleasure dining in Micheal’s.
Decent food - place really really needs a remodel to be more in line w Santa Monica location aesthetics
Pre theatre at City Center. Quiet elegant ambience, excellent service. Not an extensive menu, but an excellent meal. The scallops were really well prepared and the steak was top quality.
Great dining experience!!!
What can we say, it's a mixture of business buzz and familiar friendliness, a true NY hot spot that has been able to surpass trendy and become a truly timeless staple of the city. Must visit, order everything, ask for anything. You'll be well catered to, pun intended.
The food was great, NYC expensive, but great. The sommelier was downright rude, perhaps he doesn't think a table full of women deserve explanations about differences in bottles of wine at the lower end of the price range, but we got none. Nor did the one person ordering a glass get any information at all about wine by the glass. The waitstaff could have been more attentive.
Lovely experience for Restaurant Week. Warmly greeted upon entering. Beautiful space. Had to wait awhile for menus and then had to request the one for RW . The chilled pea soup was fresh and the crab paired perfectly. My companion enjoyed the salmon appetizer. We both had the dorade and left nothing on the plate! We passed on dessert. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal and look forward to returning.
Lovely atmosphere, attentive, friendly service, and delicious food, all for the very reasonable restaurant week price! I always like Michael's but it was especially pleasant this time.
The Walter recommended i ordered a smaller version of the berries and greek yogurt, which sounded nice until the check arrived and it was more expensive than the bigger version on the menu
Here is a wonderful, bright restaurant serving tasty food - all in a welcoming environment. The understated elegance and friendly service brings you back to an era where the guest was recognized and made to feel they belonged. Perhaps it's Michael's Santa Monica heritage that has been brought to us in New York - but whatever its heritage - Michael's works for its guests.
Beautiful restaurant with great ambiance! Food was excellent as was the service. I’ll definitely return with friends and family.
Always great, but needs a little tune up the service
I have not been to the restaurant in a while. I need to go more often.
A great lunch place that is classic NYC. Great menu. Always welcoming staff and food is always excellent
the food was fabulous and service terrific. Had the restaurant week menu.
atmosphere was lively for lunch on a Friday in the summer. Loved the flavor and pairing combinations the chef used.
I booked this restaurant because it was NYC Restaurant Week and I had never been there before. The meal was 2 courses for $26. I t used to be 3 courses for a similar amount. For $26 , my granddaughter and I received a mundane green salad with some burrata cheese. The entrees were dourade with some squash, and small salami pizza. We opted not to have the $8 dessert add on. I found the food mundane, uninspired and not filling. This will not be a restaurant I return to.
The food was excellent! There was four in our group and everyone was equally pleased with their choices.
Pleasant atmosphere and quiet enough to talk with a friend. Service not rushed.
The food was outstanding as usual. The modern art collection also continues to wow. Unfortunately, the rest of the furnishings are really starting to look shop-worn. Time to remodel.
Ambiance is great. Service excellent. I hoped the food would be especially good, but it seemed a little bland. It was fine, just not outstanding which I expected based on hearing it was the same Michael’s as in LA.
