Medium Rare - Cleveland Park Ratings and Reviews
We went for brunch on a Saturday and the service was quite slow. We had to ask multiple times to have our bottomless mimosas filled up. The food was very good and a good value, but the noise level was horrible- we could barely hear each other at a normal sized table. Overall, I would not recommend this place if you want a more laid back brunch and good service. That being said, the steak frites was great, and the mimosas too!
Tina was one of the most attentive servers we've ever had for a brunch experience. We did the bottomless brunch for $24.95 and even when I changed my mind about my entree (after receiving it), I was able to get a different item without hassle. I would recommend going for the bottomless option (get the Steak & Eggs) and asking for Tina as your server.
Steak frites styled on a restaurant in Paris called the Entrecote. The food at Medium Rare is limited to a fixed menu of steak (culotte cut which is very thin), fries and a starter salad for $20. There is a portabella mushroom option for non-meat eaters, but we did not try it. The meat was tasty. The sauce was missing something especially when compared to the Entrecote in Paris. The french fries were good and the salad was fine. Everyone can get seconds on steak and fries, and we were able to take ours home. Desserts are $9 and the portions are generous. We tried carrot cake, good but not great, and key lime pie (Pie Sisters) which was tart but too much graham crust for me. Overall it was a good meal at a very reasonable price, and service was freindly and suitably attentive. My only real complaint would be the noise level. I was with my parents, and we could barely hear each other even though they re-seated us near the front windows.
This was my first time at medium rare (went for brunch), and I was not altogether impressed. It looked nice outside with umbrellas, but we opted to sit inside since it was very hot. We were near a group of about 40 very rowdy guys, and the place echos, so we had to yell to hear each other and our server. The bottomless drinks were ok - they were definitely very low on actual alcohol, and our server even mentioned that the group next to us drank most of what they had, so you knew they were trying to stretch it. However, we had to constantly go out of our way to wave down a server to get them refilled, and they were often empty for long periods of time. The food was not as great as I expected from other reviews. Two of us got the eggs Benedict - it looked unappetizing when it came out because of the cubed steak and sauce, and didn't taste much better. There was bread in there somewhere but it got soaked and mushy because of all the stuff on it. The fries, yogurt parfait, and starter bread, however, were very good! Definitely started strong, then went downhill. Overall, I probably won't choose to go back for brunch.
We had the Sunday brunch with all you can eat steak frites and bottomless bloody marys, screwdrivers, and mimosas. The steak was cooked perfectly to order for both of us, mine medium rare, hers medium well. the gravy was very tasty. We ate outside and watch the people stroll by. The service was very good and attentive. Will do again.
Definitely a great value for brunch! The only thing that would make it better is if there were a few more brunch options, maybe an omelette. The service was great, and the food was delicious. A great deal for a bottomless, and I liked that they had more than just mimosas
Medium Rare in Cleveland Park has decent streak and very good frites. But it continues an annoying policy of not seating you until all the guests in your party have arrived. I get it when it's Friday or Saturday and time at the table is money. But on a Tuesday when business is slow? We would have gladly ordered drinks bit instead had to stand around for 5 minutes on a rainy night. This happened to us last year. Pretty sure we won't be back.
With only 1 meal on the menu we expected that it would look and be somewhat like the photo on their website. The beef tasted like it had been soaked in MSG to make it tender and it was overcooked. The french fries did not look anything like the photo on the website. No one ever asked if everything was ok and never checked on us and then they came with a second helping which was actually hotter and better than the first serving but we were not expecting it so I had already eaten the overdone first serving.
The salad was fresh and the salad dressing was excellent. The sauce that was served with the beef was also very good. It was a pleasant neighborhood location and we enjoyed the outdoor seating but our table was on top of the subway grate so we felt a wind and noise every time the train went underneath us. All in all we were disappointed in the experience.
Great value for prix fix and food was served well.
Music was so loud we had to yell over it and often just stopped talking. Asked manager to turn it down or provide quiet table but there's no such seating at this place. Sorry, but blaring Bieber and Timberlake over dinner just doesn't do it for me.
I would not return but my 20 something son and friend loved it especially for a $20 steak dinner.
This place is a mirror of one of our favorite restaurant's in the world, L'Entrecote in Paris....they only serve steak frites, and they are fantastic! The best I have had in the US, by far, and consistent. The sauce is what makes the dish, and while it is not perfect, I would love to get my hands on a bottle! Please, do NOT go here if you don't check it out first....I have seen comments regarding vegetarians, menu too small, etc.....how are you going to bash a place that serves one thing??? We love this place and are already craving a return!!!
We enjoyed a prior brunch visit, so we decided to return a few weeks later.
We arrived at 12:45 - right on time for our reservation. But the staff seemed overwhelmed and/or our table was not ready. Then, when it was, the host team was a bit curt and unhelpful: even with 4/6 of us there, we were told we had to wait to be seated (in the hot, crowded waiting area) until our entire party arrived. This, despite our reservation, despite our explanation that the driver was parking and despite the fact our party included an infant. Keep in mind that parking options are limited in this neighborhood. When we pointed out how silly it was that a table was sitting waiting for us while we awkwardly blocked the path of other customers and servers, one host finally seated us.
The eggs were served at room temperature while the rest of the meal was much warmer. The bottomless drinks required repeated refill reminders to the servers. The restaurant music was way too loud - making conversation across our table challenging. Not realizing we'd already paid for our meal, one of us at the other end of the table ordered a soda water. When the server returned to the table with our credit card receipts, she also handed off an additional bill for $3.30 for the soda water. How tacky. Then, she disappeared for a long time making payment for this drink (that probably cost the restaurant less than $.05) an ordeal because we needed change for a $20. Ultimately, our table collectively dug up enough bills and coins to pay and get out of there.
It's very, very unlikely we'd return.
A nice idea but I found the food lacking - the beef was pretty tasteless and the "special sauce" not all that special. Service was very attentive, and we noted that several tables included children who were well cared for - a plus because few restaurants in the area work well for children.
The salad was stingy and the greens were limp. We wee rationed about 4 halves of cherry tomatoes. Gone downhill. When salad is really the only "green" you offer as part of the fixed offering they could make a much better impression by beginning the meal with a robust and truly fresh salad. Lost my business I am afraid.
This restaurant was recommended by an acquaintance. It turned out to be an excellent suggestion. Both my other-half and I truly enjoyed the food! The menu was very simple: salad, steak and fries. Staff was very courteous, friendly, and efficient. Price was quite reasonable for two persons at about USD$100.00, including a refill of steak, two glasses of wine, two very tastful keylime pies, and the tip! Would go back for sure...
Had originally planned to go for dinner for my husband's birthday, but decided on brunch instead. Luckily, the same option for dinner is available for brunch so everyone was happy. The food comes out in the perfect portion to really fill you up without making you go into a coma. The drinks were strong and the service was perfect. In love with Medium Rare and will definitely be back!
