Malmaison Brasserie - Leeds
Outstanding food quality with a fantastic menu. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Would definitely recommend.
Food good, nice ambience. Would be even better with appropriate music
Attentive but unobtrustive service, soup and burgers were excellent, as was the wine
À pleasant and peaceful environment to have a quiet meal in a wonderful hotel close t Leeds city centre. The waiter (Lucy) was very attentive and helpful, as were other members of staff. Excellent choice on the menu with some unusual dishes. Food was served piping hot. Reasonably-priced overall. Would certainly return.
Whilst the overall dining experience was pleasant the meal and atmosphere were a little underwhelming.
We had a lovely meal here for four to celebrate a birthday. The service was excellent and the food was good. We were given a table at the back of the restaurant which is quieter than the front half and we were given lots of time to make our choices. The service was not rushed. Drinks arrived promptly. The restaurant has a good atmosphere and there were lots of people on date nights. As we had a vegetarian with us we did notice there was not a lot of choice for her but what she had she enjoyed. I would come again.
Brilliant service from staff when really busy with Christmas parties. Very noisy, but could not be helped.
You can’t beat Sunday lunch at Malmaison when in Leeds. It’s always a great experience and the buffet is fantastic!
Nice atmosphere and good service. Good food too. Worth a visit if you’re in Leeds.
We have had consistently good meals here - we go for Sunday brunch: 4 courses, including a buffet with a selection of starters. The pumpkin soup on our recent visit was delicious - and I never, normally have soup. The selection of hors d'oeuvres was varied and excellent, as usual. The only disappointment was that I was not keen on the mains choices this time around - although, I have noticed that they regularly change parts of the menu; we have been fortunate that we have enjoyed previous changes, but not so much this time around. However, my mixed pork grill was still good - I was actually looking forward to having a steak, but it wasn't part of the choice this time around, which was a shame. Would recommend, and look forward to our next visit.
Poor from wing to wing
Service was slow and value for money was poor
Enjoyed the Sunday lunch. Slight hic-cup being they didn't have details of our registration despite me having a confirmation email. Not a problem as they did have a table free but might have been a problem if they'd been busier. Not sure why my booking wasn't registered on their system?
Our meal was underwhelming to say the least. Every dish lacked seasoning. The calamari were very chewy and the lamb wasn't cooked properly, the fat wasn't rendered and so consequently was inedible. The restaurant also said that we hadn't made a booking even though we had confirmation on our mobile. Just not very satisfactory and won't be back.
Really enjoyed as always. Liked the new(?) unlimited prosecco option
We couldn't eat at the restaurant due to the menu on opentable not being correct and one of the people not being able to eat what was on the Sunday one. The opentable website needs updating!
I have eaten in many restaurants of various claims to quality in many countries. I did not expect a fine dining experience with this restaurant. I expected merely what was advertised. I was very disappointed however and will not be going back. We arrived for our booked table (for 2) on time; we were left waiting to be shown to our table for at least 5 minutes without anyone bothering to come over to us. I sought someone out and we were eventually seated (once a table was cleared). I had to call the waiter back to take our coats. We were asked if we wanted water and after saying 'yes' the waiter practically ran from the table without asking if we wanted anything else to drink. I managed to get his attention and ask for a glass of champagne. He quickly left from the table before asking my wife if she wanted a drink. The champagne came 25 mins later (no exaggeration). We were then asked again if we wanted water, as it had not materialised. That eventually came (one glass each). We ordered our starter, main and wine. After another 20 mins we were told that the main was not available. The wine came. It was warm and was in a metal holder that itself was not chilled. The wine was delicious; but should have been colder. The waiter brought some ice (after about 10 minutes). The starters were nice. The main came 1 hour and 30 minutes after we arrived. They forgot the sides and therefore we had to wait another 5 minutes for them. By the time they arrived the pot of sauce for the meal was cold and had to replaced. We were only given one glass of water (no jug!) and were never asked about a refill or whether we would like some more wine. I had to order my dessert twice for some reason (from different servers), with a 10 minute interval between. The dessert was delicious. I would like to have that again. But the service was absolutely laughable. I would not be surprised if the two members of staff that I dealt with were on their very first day of work. AVOID.
We had Sunday lunch to celebrate a family birthday at Malmaisson. Amazing buffet table with a great selection of starters. Limited choice of main courses but there was something for all of us from teens to octogenarian! Delicious desserts.
The evening out with our friends started well but after waiting for 45 minutes for our main course having been told 25 minutes ago that our steaks were resting our friend went to complain. We got a drink offered for the bother but still waited another 20 minutes. The meals came and although our friends meal was nice and warm ours were cold and the meat was nothing to shout home about for the cost. Would not recommend and would not go again. Too many other nicer places in LEEDS to dine.
Really enjoyed the Sunday Brunch menu here. Great value for money too.
This has to be one of the worst meals I have ever eaten and quite shocked that the staff got the basics so wrong !
We went to this restaurant on recommendation to celebrate the birthday of a friend after a day's shopping in Leeds. We booked an early evening table for 6:30pm for four people. The table given to us was in an area of the restaurant which resembled an annex to the main eating area, the restaurant was not busy but we were told all the other table were booked! The ambience in the area we were in was dismal to say the least. To compound our disappointment for what we had to eat which was not particularly special the bill was very expensive indeed...and had a hefty gratuity pre added to it! We won't be revisiting anytime soon.
Really like the decor here. Nice menu and pleasant staff make this a reliable and enjoyable choice for any meal
6 of us ate on a Wednesday night. It wasn't busy but the service was incredibly slow, although friendly.
The 1st thing we noticed upon sitting was that the table was incredibly high compared to the chairs. More of an observation than a complaint but was a bit strange eating so high up.
Three of the group ordered the same scallop starters & a 4th wanted to but were told they had run out so they had to pick another dish. Of the 3 that were served, 1 was a full portion & for the other 2 it was obvious that 1 portion had been shared between the 2 as the scallops had been cut in half. Incredibly poor- they really should've just apologised & advised in the 1st place that they didn't have another!
The other 3 starters were fine & the main courses were too.
One other thing noted was that there were incredibly limited options for vegetarians.
Lovely night and splendid service for a hospitable front of house team. Excellent food from he kitchen.
Having eaten at Malmaison several times, we always enjoy the food and the atmosphere. Despite being quite busy when we arrived, the service for both drinks and food was great; very friendly and motivated staff. Highly recommended.
Normally pick this restaurant larger due to the decor & ambiance, however wasn't advised prior to getting there for our anniversary dinner that the restaurant was closed for renovations but we could eat upstairs. We were led to what seemed to be a room that I imagine normally used for conferences, just a square room with tables spread around, not good lighting, with absolutely no ambiance whatsoever. Wish we had decided to go elsewhere but my current health means I can't walk far so decided just to stay. Food was OK, sent both our rack of lambs back for being under cooked - requested pink ( medium rare in my book for lamb ) but came very rare.
We had previously been to this restaurant with fond memories, but what a come down in standards. The 1st thing to know is a refurb is on-going which we were never told about.
The restaurant has been set up in a conference room.Giving no atmosphere.
The standards of service have dropped.
Love the decor and ambience here, food good too. Nice menu, staff very polite. My only minor criticism is that we had to pour our own wine .
One of the best Sunday Lunches I've had outside the home. A vast array of starters from a help yourself buffet, and really excellent rib of beef served at the table. We didn't have time to stay for pudding, which was included in the &19.99 a head price, but it looked good. The staff were spot on too, and the only thing letting the experience down was the ambiance. The background music was not to our taste, but that's a subjective thing, and the décor is just a bit dark and dingy and could do with brightening up. Don't let this put you off though, as the food, service and value were top end.
Malmaison Sunday Brunch is incredible value, I was a little disappointed that the starter buffet selection didn't have as much selection as previously with only 2 cheeses this time to chose from where in the past there have been 4/5.
They managed to find us a table, no thanks to Open Table who took our booking but didn't pass it on to the restaurant! And this was Mother's Day. I would recommend the restaurant but I won't be booking through Open Table again!
The food cost too much and didn't taste great.
the venue was noisy and unwelcoming.
the staff while courteous were clearly bored and more of the temperament of fat food joint not somewhere with a bill of almost £100 for two modest eaters.
Lovely décor, great ambience. Brunch menu a little confusing at first but overall would definitely go again
We were hoping for a fine dining experience, but we did not get it. The waitress failed to take a starter order from one of us although there was only 3 of us at the table. I ordered duck, but it was so tough I was offered a steak knife, but it was still inedible. The Maitre de was very pleasant and offered me a discounted bill when I told him about the issues we had, but even then it was poor value for the money. We will not be going back. Also, I would like to add another comment. The bar staff should ask if you want ice, because my gin and tonic arrived with so much ice in it that it was impossible to taste anything.
We were seated quickly and when we asked for a different table they accommodated that. We had mentioned in the booking it was a celebration so we got a glass of champers. The food came in good time and was well presented and tasted good, waiters were friendly and polite. We had a deal and 2 courses and wine came to £32! Enjoyed it.
Three of us went for the 2 course dinner + wine priced at £14.95 on Friday evening.
We sat in the bar area and enjoyed a nice relaxed glass of wine before we were shown to our table.
We did have to wait some time before our order was taken, but again we were having a bottle of the red and white wines, so we were not in a rush.
The 2 courses on the menu were of limited choice (3) choices, but were varied. We were given the option to go a la carte, but we stuck to the menu we had been given originally.
The dinner was well presented and was very nice..
We ended up having cheese and biscuits to complete the meal.
The meal was very good value, the atmosphere and the staff were excellent throughout.
Loved the atmosphere and food, would go more often for lunch if they did a little lower priced lunch menu.
First visit, will not be rushing back. Everything was just OK, but not worth the money. I wasn't expecting first class service, but have received better service in fast food outlets. Maybe we were just unlucky with the waitress, who just dumped the food on the table with no please, thank you's or "can I get you anything else". The bar staff were better and more helpful. The food and wine were adequate for the price paid, but really nothing special. There are better places for the same prices...
Love visiting Malmaison for cosy romantic meals. We visited on Friday and the place was buzzing which was great. Service is always super efficient, knowledgeable and friendly. The prawn cocktail and Lollipop starters were both great. We followed with the Mal Burger and then steak frites, both cooked perfectly. We were too full for desserts. We received £25 off our food with a voucher which was fantastic which made the bill really good value. Would definately go back for special occassions. The bar is lovely to relax after dinner with a nice hearty glass of red.
We started with cocktails in the bar, both delicious and served by attentive staff. Dinner was then in the very cosy restaurant, perfect for a drizzly winters night. We ordered a bottle of pink prosecco which was lovely and good value. A shared starter of chicken skewers was lovely. I had the special of rump steak, cooked perfectly and my boyfriend ordered the Mal burger. This again was excellent and the side of onion rings was fab. Cannot fault the food at all. We finished off with a cheeseboard which was presented excellently by our server. 10 out of 10 Mal! A great birthday treat.
