Sushi. Sit at the sushi bar at a less busy time, ask the sushi chef what he recommends. Pay for the omakase and reserve before or after the rush. Don’t expect great service on par with the quality of the food, something that can be frustrating at times, like when you just want more water, or even the check. The food is amazing, you pay for it, so enjoy it. They go to great lengths to make sure the food is excellent, which you can see when you’re sitting by the sushi bar. I’ve been all over the world (haven’t gotten to Japan) and, surprisingly, this is the best sushi I’ve ever had. All of the flavors are distinctly Makoto, from soy sauce and wasabi to the rice. You can taste the quality ingredients and that they obviously get the best of the best fish, treat it properly and prepare it masterfully.
As for ambience, it’s a flashy crowd, but you can still go in a t-shirt. The lighting is subdued and it could get loud. It gets very busy and the servers and hosts try to keep up, but I guess that’s a good problem for them. I’m a fan. Don’t miss out.
Makoto is always great! Consistently great! I'd say that it's better than any Japanese restaurant in NYC, Washington, or Miami. It's really that good. We're so happy that it's a neighborhood restaurant for us!
Louis is the best waiter
I thought dinner was a bit overrated and overpriced for what you get. There are much better alternatives for that price range.
A very considerate manager, Tim assisted my elderly mother with kindness and courtesy - which was very much appreciated by her and the family!
Food was presented attractively and was tasty!
It's a good restaurant and u'll have a great meal if u know what to order. The robata were fantastic, and so were the appetizers. The sushi were atrocious though. I've had better at Costco! I think they used brown rice which was undercooked.. And the fish was just ok. Oh, and this was the worst uni I've ever had..
Great sushi! Hostesses are not always the friendliest but good waiters and good food!
Family get together
This was the best sushi & Japanese cuisine I’ve ever had. This makes Nobu look like old and outdated. Nobu used to be our favorite. But recently it has declined. This place now tops my favorites. We had Wagyu on a hot rock. We had rock shrimp appetizer. We had a lot of sushi. There were 3 of us. We had 6 drinks and we shared a dessert. The bill was $327. We couldn’t believe the price. All of this food & drinks for $327. If we had the same at Nobu, it would have been well over $500 and not as good. If you are in Miami and want the best. This is your place to go. I highly recommend it.
Food is pretty good, but little over price I think.
Remains a favorite for us and our friends always enjoy as well when we bring them with us. Food quality is consistent and delicious. Good menu selections.
Highly recommend !
Our knowledgeable courteous and caring waiter Nick made the evening so much more pleasurable.
One of the favorite place in Miami with delicious food ,highly recommends.
Food was quite good. Service was polite but clueless. Brought every dish we ordered at once. No attempt at pacing. Also I figured a place as highly rated as this would find a way to overcome the feeling of eating in a mall. I was wrong.
Otoro is very good
Salmon is average
BBQ Beef Ribs very good
Brussels were burnt but great kimchi flavor
Whole branzino very good
Some desserts very good others average
Bartender has a weak pouring arm for MARTINI’s
We got to the hostess who said they were fully committed, I then proceeded to open table and was able to pick a time and table...they were not fully committed. I felt I was eating in a race ! they wanted us out asap. Food was mediocre at best. Totally overrated restaurant.
Great place amazing atmosphere
Very knowledgeable team.
Excellent food, everything including drinks are carefully prepared and executed. Everything was delicious and fresh. Andres offered great service.
Smell awful inside ! Smoked bbq type
Too hot to sit outside by
We have been going back to Makoto for many years. The food as always was delicious. The service was impeccable.
I highly recommend this restaurant for foodies.
Service was terrible; waiter asked what we wanted within a few minutes of sitting down and when I asked about one of the meals (salmon entree) he made it sound like it was just a filet with rice, no big deal. Couldn’t be bothered to provide details about anything and didn’t offer to give other info about the menu. This was our 20 yr anniversary and I am sorry we went there.
The udon was so greasy I couldn’t believe it. A big disappointment, overall.
Todo excelente, recomendación de vinos, platos, el ambiente (un poco ruidoso)...el precio un poco excedido.
Good food except the foie gras fried Rice a little bit disapponted. Texture not really well used. The chicken dumpling with mustard force is fabulous
Muy buena comida , excelente servicio
Always awesome. Never disappointed!! Selection is great brought a first timer and he loved it.
OT rarely fails and this was no exception. It was fantastic and unconventional. The menu was inventive and exciting. We ate too much!! Tuna pizza, chicken dumplings, crab salad, rainbow roll and last the special fried rice, if there was just one suggestion there was too much oil in the fried rice but other than that I look forward to my next trip to Miami just to return!! Really a very special restaurant and our waiter was terrific he was a young man but I forget his name.
We had an amazing meal. Honestly, food was ridiculously good. Towards the end of our meal the restaurant became extremely busy so the wait time for our last two courses was a little cray. Thankfully, the service staff was on point... I think the kitchen was just on overload. The food and presentation is 11/10. I’d come back tomorrow and the next day and the next.
Interesting, Exceptional Spot. Do not miss it.
The food, table support service, drinks, and cooking is outstanding. We tried a variety of menu selections and every one we tried was food paradise.
Our waiter had to be on drugs. He was moving and speaking at an incredible rate of speed. We've never experienced this before. 4 of 5 stars because of this oddity. We almost walked out because of him when we arrived. He was speaking like a podcast running at 3x its normal speed. He was absent, forgetful, and blamed other staff for not delivering simple things to the table. Everyone else had their sh*t together.
The only other point of improvement would be restocking the hand towels/paper towels in the men's bathroom. A quick check by staff every thirty minutes would resolve this silliness. You can judge a restaurant by the quality and cleanliness of the bathroom.
Crowd (on a Saturday night - 7:00 PM):
The crowd is a mix of happy and chill people (families, sushi lovers, a young and happening crowd), individuals with a lot of cosmetic surgery (fat lips and fake t's), and just a few too many leathery middle aged and 55+ men (yawn). Makoto should target the <50 under crowd to give it a little more atmospheric life.
The restaurant's food and presentation was exceptional. Whatever you do... do not skip this place when in Miami.
Great, perfect service and food. A nice place to have lunch or dinner on weekends!
This place never disappoints! The food was amazing and plates come out super fast. Only problem was waiting for about 20 minutes for the “ reservation” table and found about 6 tables that were empty. When they sat us down it took about 20 minutes for the waiter to acknowledge us. When he approached the table he was very sorry for the delay. He told us he had lots of tables. I do not understand because the restaurant had lots of staff members. Nonetheless the experience after this was amazing as always! We keep coming back and back to this place.
Over all a good experience but i expected more. Our waiter was not very good and he forgot one of the dishes which at the end was fine as there was too much food :-) but stil... if you serve asian food one would expect better selection of green teas. Sushi was very good. Right amount of rice versus fish. The quality of fish was excelent. If you serve maki please learn how many pieces there should be per serving. It is not a discretion. It is a custom and tradition. Ceviche was very good. Freshness overwhelming but i would prefer less saucy so i could taste the fish. Chicken.... not bad but a huge portion. Too much!
Esta bien, Atencion buena. Mucho ruido.
The best!! Never disappoints!!!
Excellent food I’ve been to the one on Panama and it was just as great
Se come huuuyyy bien. Una combinación de Occidental japonés muy interesante
As usual it was perfect!
My favorite restaurant in Miami, hands down. Consistently excellent food.
Always a delight to eat at Makoto. Delicious and inventive food.
Service is always impeccable.
Highly recommend it to all.
