"We are two food and wine loving French New Yorkers who are bringing an exciting restaurant to Harlem, one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the borough."
The service was AWFUL. In fact, it is quite apparent that customer service is not a priority. Shortly after the food arrived, we asked for a second round of drinks that never came although the waitress passed our table numerous times. When we reminded her about the drinks and told her that we were disappointed in the service, the waitress shrugged her shoulder and was quite indifferent. We asked for the manager who was equally as dismissive. When we told him that reviews cite poor service, he told us that he doesn’t pay attention to reviews as they are wrong. Given our experience today, the reviews are on point. While the food is tasty, there are other restaurants in Harlem with delicious food and good customer service. Don’t trouble yourself with Maison Harlem. Bad service undermines the dining experience.
Lovely place for brunch!
Excellent food, friendly service, great vibe. Just a bit pricey, is my only complaint.
The restaurant was not open for the time we booked our breakfast despite a confirmation via your app - ridiculous
I love this little restaurant--both the bar and the restaurant in the back. A wonderful group of people. Friendly warm and the food is modest, standard French but good. I just had merguez and frites and rose and enjoyed it. Prices too are moderate.
The staff couldn't have been friendlier and were accommodating when I wanted another table.
The food here is great and we all enjoyed our meals.
I expected a more upscale ambiance given the extensive french cuisine but I was not disappointed by the food or the service. All of the patrons whether at the bar or dining at their tables looked happy to be there. I wished I lived in the neighborhood so I could easier frequent this restaurant.
We enjoyed the shrimp cocktail, salmon with lemon caper over ratatouille and over spinach, and a hamburger. Shoe string fries were really good. Friendly service and waiter was kind about my attempts at speaking French based on 30+ years ago high school French classes.
Great restaurant in unexpected part of the town. I keep coming here every time I'm in town.
Wonderful spot for a relaxed weekend lunch. Good vibes and good food.
Awesomeness all around!
The food was so.......... delicious. Date night was pleasant with the french accent service. 🥰
As you are walking up to this restaurant you might think you are at the wrong address because it lols like just a Bar. As you step in you see the dining are in the back and a Hostess was right there. I was meeting someone for lunch and they sat me at a lovely table. It wasn’t very crowded and the server immediately gave me the menu.
When my friend came we ordered a delicious Vodka cocktail. Then we ordered. Nabou our server was extremely pleasant. The Small Mussels Mariniere was delicious and had a wonderful delicate onion taste. The Absolut Mandrin cocktail was quite delicious with the mussels.
My friend ordered Salmon but they brought her smoked salmon instead of the cooked salmon and they brought her the salmon she asked for in just a few minutes. It was absolutely delicious. Salmon on a bed of the most delicious ragatoutti I have ever tasted.
My Couscous Royale which is their specialty was spectacular. Very tasteful and just the right amount of spices. It was as I enjoy in Morocco.
It seemed that Nabou was working the entire lunch time but was always seeing that everything was ok.
No one rushed you for the table and I, well we both enjoyed our fabulous lunch.
The only problem I had with this restaurant was the cleanliness of the Bathroom. The bathroom was as clean as I thought a restaurant should be and as I said it wasn’t that crowded but I’m sure that was the only bathroom even for the Bar patrons. Maybe there could be two or just clean it more often. I do say it’s the people who dirty a place. I’m sure the paper on the floor was not thrown there by the workers.
Since that was my only problem I did see some other wonderful things on the menu that I would love to try hoping they clean up the bathroom.
Service was a little slow but the food was good and the people were friendly .
Great outdoor dinner !
It was a very slow night and our waiter never paid attention to us. He kept forgetting to bring our drinks but did remember to bring the check more than once when we didn’t ask. The beer lines have not been cleaned in a while as we all had different beers and they all tasted horrible.
The bar area was very crowded but seems it’s due to the happy hour prices.
The food was great and the people where nice
The food all had great flavor, but everyone's entree was cold. We sent two of them back and they came out cold again! We didn't complain the second time. Maison Harlem was nice enough to take 10% off the bill. Drinks were good, the atmosphere was fun. But be advised, it is very loud in here. So if you are looking for something intimate I'd suggest another restaurant. Overall, I'd recommend it to someone in the area but definitely wouldn't make a special trip.
Loved this restaurant! Food, service and ambiance combination was fabulous. We were a table of four and every dish was spectacular. The waiter was especially wonderful with recommendations and explanations of sauces, etc. Chef very willing to make substitutions. The only problem is parking so recommend taking an Uber.
Amazing as always! It’s a great place/food/service/ambiance/music. We love it!
Maison Harlem is a great neighborhood restaurant. Good food with friendly service.
When we walked up to the restaurant, there were three servers outside hovering over someone's new motorized scooter. Once seated, we waited a little too long for someone to take our drink order, about ten minutes. This was b/c everyone was taking turns riding the new motorized scooter. Once we were served our food, it was wonderful! The quiche was superb. We enjoyed our meal so much, we returned the next day...thank goodness the motorized scooter stayed home and our services was great. Try anything with the salad and house fries. They are amazing.
Restaurant super loud with some customer taking way too loud.
They are sitting across from each other yet they hv to yell at each other and laughing way too loud.
It’s a bit on the expensive side, compared to other places and Harlem and what they offer. Ambience is good !
If you are craving fresh food in a charming well air-conditioned restaurant, or on a sidewalk patio this place is for you. They have many classic dishes as well as less well known french delights! My only regret is that I was too full for desert. The service was great. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. I was just in France two weeks ago and this place has captured some of the essence of a little french bistro. Can't wait to go again!
The restaurant was very easy to get to from the UWS with the station being right across the street. The bar was noisy, but got calmer once we were seated in the dining room. The ambiance was funky with a nice Parisian twist and the service was excellent. I started with a salad and was pleasantly surprised with the freshness of the greens and the lovely presentation. Maison Harlem had a nice neighborhood feel to it and I shall definitely return.
We went for a birthday dinner and had 2 elderly ladies with us. It was accessible through a side door and the wait staff was very attentive. Food and drinks were outstanding
European atmosphere and french food in the middle of Harlem. Great live music on Wednesday nights.
The AC was broken so I needed a shower after I left.
Went for French Restaurant Week only to discover participate in dinner only and we were there for lunch. We each had a salad, very fresh. One included a crepe which was a bit underdone and not as stuffed as might be. Other had phyllo stuffed with plenty of goat cheese, very good. Chocolate mousse dessert was delicious though priced a bit high. Generally prices a bit high for portion size. Not crowded so not too noisy.
This is a great place for a lunch conversation. The food is good. The service friendly. I am a repeat dinner.
the band was kikkin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First time here and loved it. Since it was bastille day, they were in celebration mood with live music and fresh crepes to order. Everything was authentic and delish!!! Will definitely be back!
We enjoyed the atmosphere in this cool French bistro and the food was quite good, if pricey. We will go back.
AC was off on 7/13 , a very, very warm day. Pretty uncomfortable and no fans. But we stayed because we wanted to try this place and it was my birthday (which was noted in the reservation). Took a really long time to get cold water and ended up getting the pitcher and ice ourselves. It was very early on a Saturday night and it wasn’t crowded at all so being busy wasn’t an excuse. I then ordered a glass of wine and it took a very long time to get that as well, the bar was close by.
The food that we had was very good, tuna tartare and the carbonara, to name a few but we couldn’t eat too much because of the heat. No apologies were made at all about it being an uncomfortable atmosphere. Good Customer Service, if you want your patrons to return to your restaurant, would’ve been to offer us a round of cold drinks (we were only two adults and one kid) or at the very least, just to cover my one glass of wine. Besides the heat, there was no acknowledgement made of my birthday, and again, a dessert or a glass of wine offered for both of these reasons (heat and special occasion) would’ve been appropriate.
Great ambience, the food was tasty (five diners...starters - escargots, shrimp cocktail and carrot soup; mains - crispy duck leg, pork chops, grilled spicy lamb sausages, tagliatelle carbonara and grilled chicken breast) and Stephane was an outstanding and attentive host! My family and I will certainly return to Maison Harlem as soon as we get an opportunity to do so.
This quaint restaurant has lots of character, amazingly good food that is perfect to share. The seafood risotto and escargo are my go to dishes. AND you can make a meal out of the bread and sweet butter. They never rush you, ever. Great date place, or casual birthday, or brunch. I've been going there for the 5 years I have lived in Harlem and have never been disappointed
Amazing experience! The food was exceptional and the staff was skilled and attentive. My salmon and ratatouille were perfectly cooked and seasoned.
Food is classic French Lyonnaise. Service was attentive and impeccable at middling high prices. I had their duck with French cut beans and a potato soufflé. It was outstanding. My friend had the risotto. Dessert was an apple turnover with vanilla ice cream. They also have some standard American fare. Right outside the A train 125 Street station at the 127 Street entrance.
We love Maison Harlem! Have been here several times, and each experience has been wonderful. Excellent food, great ambiance, and lovely service. Will definitely return!
