A nice view if your seated on the correct half of the seating area. Well prepared choices of food. Staff is courteous and attentive.
One or two food items were very notable, but on the whole not worth the price tag.
You pay more for the location / venue than you do for anything else. Nice to do once but not again.
The Champagne Brunch at the MacArthur's Restaurant is outstanding. Great variety of brunch items. Wait staff is attentive, welcoming and friendly.
Excellent Valentine’s Day dinner. Considering the quality and the amount of dishes we got, it was a great deal.
We had an enjoyable evening at the MacArthur’s Restaurant. Our waiter was on top of everything. I enjoyed the sea bass; however the other three ordered steak. The New York steak was overcooked. The rib eyes and the New York steak was tough. Two could not finish eating the steak. Would not order steak again.
Valentine's Day weekend , offered a fixed price menu per couple with free bottle red or white wine. Meal was served with a little confusion of who ordered what. Once corrected , went very well .
The only problem encountered was when I went to retrieve my car from the valet . He brought up the wrong vehicle at first, we had to wait a short time for the guy in charge to return with key for locker , opened it and found my car keys. Yes , there were many vehicles this night .
Extremely nice zero complaints, food was excellent , restaurant is beautiful, parking attendant was nice and fast great night overall
Food and service were great! We enjoyed our dinner and breakfast there! Can’t wait to go back
Always a great dining experience, in a beautiful setting!
This restaurant is in a beautiful historic building right on the grounds of West Point. We went for breakfast. The view of the river is breathtaking and the interior is lovely. I had eggs benedict which were good but I think I expected them to be a little better or different than standard. It came with potatoes which were cooked nicely. My husband ordered the bananas foster french toast which was a mistake. It was so incredibly sweet, you could hardly eat much of it. I tasted it and it was like a rich cake. Might be better to keep the sauce on the side to control the sweetness.
Promotion brunch was lovely! Great view and service.
Plan shared for the busy venue esp when’s here is an West Point event! Service is phenomenal and the venue isa lovely view of the Hudson. Plenty of variety for even picky eaters, lots of fresh fruit & waffles!
MacArthur's is truly an exquisite restaurant, fantastically enshrined with American history. And while it may seem obvious to find such a place at West Point, the significance of the pictures, artwork, and location still resonate on a far deeper level than you may expect. At least it did for me.
The food is extremely fresh and masterfully prepared. The French onion soup is like none you've ever had; not too salty and with actual gryuere cheese perfectly melted inside and crisped on top. For main dishes, go for the steaks (any of them) and prepare to be impressed. The butter (Thayer's own) and red wine reduction on all steaks is heavenly.
The only letdown was our waiter, who seemed immensely preoccupied for how moderately busy the restaurant was. Not bothering to tell us the specials for the evening, we ordered from the menu only to hear him recite the specials to adjacent tables later. He brought food to our table before clearing finished plates from previous courses, and, before ordering dessert (we had to ask for dessert menus) he didn't bother cleaning the table from dinner. I ended up having to ask the host if he could please clean the table - which he happily obliged.
All of the aforementioned wait staff actions would be far more suitable for a TGI Friday's, certainly not MacArthur's.
I imagine our wait staff experience was simply a one off from a bad apple. Certainly do not let it keep you from this otherwise exquisite and very patriotic establishment.
I was there for the West Point Ring Melt with my stepdaughter and 3 grandchildren. This dinner was to be a special part of the trip. The food was excellent but the service was terrible. The wait was long for our drinks, food and even the check.
Food was ok. Short ribs tasted like pot roast. Seafood resoto was very good. MAJOR COMPLAINT- was charged “extra pour “ price on drinks without ordering. It was reversed but still thought it was sneaky.
One of the worst meals I have had. Service people stood around, food was cold and over cooked. NEVER get the buffet. Management should really think about the food options
The food selection was great and the staff was wonderful.
Very good food with a nice variety of choices. Service was also very good. Looking forward to another brunch!
The service and food were as to be expected from this historic and prestigious hotel & restaurant.
However, the dirty water glass which looked as if it had encrusted egg yolk inside of it and the water spots on the silverware detracted from the fine dining experience that it could have been. A time wiping things down (we use to do so once they came out of the dishwasher or polished as we were wrapping in napkins when I was in the food service industry) or inspection of water glasses for food or cracks etc. before giving them to a customer or setting out on a table.
We love the ambiance of the Thayer Hotel and accordingly MacArthurs. All 8 members of our party thought the food was excellent as well as the detail to service. As usual with many restaurants the "by the glass" wine list was lacking but on the whole we loved the dining experience (once again).
We just love it there. We go every year for my daughters birthday. The brunch is amazing, the service, and the atmosphere can’t be beat! Highly recommend it.
Excellent ambiance and service, food was great. Only negative was no option for glass of wine...had to buy the entire bottle which was marked up substantially.
A beautiful historic setting, very warm and especially cozy with wood fireplaces burning nearby! The seafood buffet was excellent with many varied options presented at different stations ! Seafood was carefully and perfectly cooked with a very tasty selection of options, along with an ample array of salads and sides! Each station was attended and monitored for restocking and cleanliness!
Deserts were varied And included a chocolate fondue with fresh fruit! Wonderful, wonderful buffet! Kudos to staff for making a memorable meal!
Great service and food!
Excellent as always!
I always enjoy at this restaurant. Nice atmosphere and good food. Can’t go wrong. Sunday brunch is my favorite. Seafood buffet is great, offering lots of clam and shrimp options.
Excellent as always!
A beautiful setting and delicious meal. A great place to visit especially with your favorite Cadets!
The Hotel Thayer is a historic landmark that has been well preserved however our experience did not live up to expectations. It took a long time to get our order taken and once the food arrived we didn’t see any wait staff. We sat with our dirty dishes while other tables were served. Also, I made our reservation stating it was my friend's birthday. Nobody asked us about dessert and I had to find a waiter just to order tea which didn’t come until I asked another waiter to get it. The food was just meh but the service was a disaster and I would not recommend it.
Our waiter Justin was great. Filets done perfectly
Ambiance nice and quiet well worth the trip
After dinner drink cognacs complimentary - thank you
Natasha made our dinner experience especially wonderful. She was especially warm, polite and professional .. going out of her way to assure we enjoyed our dinner experience. Thank you!
I Have been to the Resturant several times, but wasn’t impressed this time. The prime beef was practically raw, the buffet food was cold. I think for the price your charging your should be leaving feeling you’ve had a great brunch. I don’t think I would come back. Very disappointed.
The good was pretty good overall. Problem it took a while to re stock cocktail sauce. They ran out if some cakes. They were under staffed. I don't think it's worth the money. Maybe $25 or $30.
We truly enjoyed the Sunday Champagne Brunch. It was a wonderful experience with attentive service that seemed to anticipate our every need without hovering. It was a special brunch with great friends. We enjoyed the food and drinks and never felt rushed. Overall, a terrific experience.
We were staying at the hotel for a friend’s Wedding be held at West Point. Service was amazing from greeting to farewell.... we partook in the Friday evening Seafood buffet. Quality of buffet was above expectations! Amazing selection!
While food choices were excellent the service was not. I think they forgot about us.
We had reservations for 5 but they were able to accommodate our changing our group to 8. The food was really tasty and quite varied for a buffet. Our server, Justin, was really nice and took excellent care of us. We love the history of this venue. Great place to meet and the views of the Hudson River are like no other.
Staff were exceptional and the food terrific!
We went to the highly hyped seafood buffet on Friday evening. It was just OK. They ran out of breaded clams - twice - and never replaced them. Also, many desserts ran out and were not replaced. The entrees were overcooked and left too long in hot plates. Salmon was good and the chicken and shrimp. I have been to MUCH better stocked and MUCH better tasting seafood buffets. Our waitress was sweet but failed to clean dishes as we used them. NOT good at a buffet.
1:05 hours for food to get to our table, steak was so cold the butter they put in top never melted. The fish they served as monk fish was Cod covered in a cold sauce. The side of rice sat so long in the plate I could lift it up off of the plate with my fork in one piece or flat glob.
Amazing historic spot. Food choices were fantastic and service was incredible .
