Le Canard Enchaine
Everything was terrific, from starter to dessert. Service was excellent, the dining room is charming. A must when in Kingston!
We had dinner reservations at 8pm
Sat nov 9
We arrived at 7:55 to see a crowded and cramped d line with no hostess
We asked the first 4 people in line how long they’d been waiting “ 35 minutes “ with littler info
The next 2 people were told at least a 25 minute wait
No hostess was in sight for 10 minutes
Been to Paris many times -most recently last month and the finest restaurant was gracious
to treat their patrons that way is unacceptable
We said “C’est La Vie
The perfect combo of neighborhood-eatery-familiarity and a sophisticated night out. The beet salad was a delectable combo of earthy-sweet and gently tart. The cassoulet was just like grandmere's. The duck had just the right skin crispness and tender meat. The red snapper on a bed of cool ratatouille was succulent and plentiful. Sever Patrick's recommendation of a Chablis was the perfect pairing for all, and owner Jean-Jacques Carquillat surprised us with the gift of birthday dessert. It was a delicious, delightful, sparkly evening!
Onion soup is good. Steak can be shared. Nice deserts. Everything was very good.
My wife and I have eaten at Le Canard Enchaine on many occasions and it never disappoints. The food is fantastic. The restaurant provides a very cozy, home style feel. The owner is always welcoming and makes it feel like you are visiting friends instead of going out to dinner.
Traditional French fair expertly prepared and served in charming cozy bistro atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Service was attentive and friendly. Will definitely come back if in the area.
Lovely ambiance. Great service and a very special dinner
Went for lunch. Food and service were exceptional.
I have my fave Old World French Restaurants in NYC but had no idea this was right in Kingston. We will return again and again. The food was impeccable and service and atmosphere complimented it beautifully.
We had reservations at 730 but got seated at 805. We had to be somewhere where at 915 (15 mins away). Because of super late seating we had to rush and gulp our food down. Owner did his best to get everything on table super fast but we literally had to eat food in 10 mins and one of us had to leave to get car while others paid.
Food was awesome though!!!! Every entree and appetizer was one of the bests we have tasted.
Hope to have better experience next time if we visit
It's not called Le Canard by accident - Must have the duck - either roast or confit (the confit on a bed of stewed apples - great ). Speaking of apples, the Tart Tatin is a traditional tart tatin. The way they do it in France - not in New York City where they don't have the patience to caramelize it. The wait staff is full of helpful characters.
One of my all-time favorite restaurants. I feel like I am in France.
Few restaurants can withstand the test of time at such a high level of excellence. Le Canard Enchaine is a rare exception. Since they opened, they've become as much of an institution in Kingston as the Senate House or UPAC. I hadn't visited in years, and my husband never, so we were very excited to come. My memories of the place were glowing. The glow remains. As Jean Jacques said as we entered, "Welcome to Paris!" Paris on the Hudson, indeed! THANK YOU, Jean Jacques, Kathy & company for a perfect meal!
What a wonderful charming place. The local patrons are warm and friendly. The owners are welcoming
Dinner, service and ambiance were above our expectations. We had French onion soup, foie gras, duck and steak frites. Not only were the portions huge, but they all hit the mark. Steak was done perfectly, medium rare. We even had leftover steak which we had with eggs the next day. This is a restaurant not to be missed.
Had my wife's birthday dinner there and it was a fabulous occasion. The waiter was knowledgeable about the wine and did not pressure us to buy the most expensive one. At the end, he brought dessert with a candle and two complimentary glasses of champagne ! A nice touch.
As always the food was outstanding and the service is beyond great. Everyone makes you feel special and welcome. Love this place!!!’nm
Delicious! Great service!
Very good french cooking. More bistro than upscale . Waiter was great and the owners very engaging. We have dined there 3 or 4 times and it is always good albeit on the pricey side.
Our group of 4 had a fantastic evening. Great food, drinks, atmosphere and staff. Been to Paris many times and Le Canard is easily on par with their bistros and restaurants. We will be back very soon!!!
Le Canard never fails to please, from the warm welcome, the ease and professionalism of the staff, and, of course, the food. This time I made the reservation online, and I was prompted to respond as to whether this was a special event. It was, in fact, our 40th wedding anniversary. Who pays attention to these online things? Le Canard, that's who. It felt like they were celebrating with us, almost like they'd been to our wedding. This is THE finest restaurant in the Hudson Valley and Catskill.
The food, the ambiance, everything about Le Canard was spectacular!!! I've been there twice and it's always amazing
Wonderful food, fantastic ambiance, great service. Their award-winning French Onion soup is spectacular as is the daily soup of the day, from Chicken Noodle to Mushroom, Corn, or Vegetarian, each freshly made without cream. Traditional salads with blue cheese and fresh apple slices mix with garlic snails, crab cakes and homemade pate as appetizers, Long Island Duck in berry sauce, veal chops, and many more choices fill out the menu. And then comes their special fresh bakery cakes, pies and tarts. Well worth the drive regardless how long it may take. Eating here is an experience you will not easily forget.
Always perfect. Our favorite spot for so many reasons.
Fabulous on every level. Wish I lived next door as I felt as if I was leaving family when our meal was over.
Everything is always AMAZING at Le Canard
Our waiter: She was the Best !!
The Duck (both ways) Superb
BEST RESTAURANT IN THE HUDSON VALLEY!!!
Excellent food and service. Owner was there welcoming all guests. Service is top of the line and the food is incredible!
Always reliable, always fun but quite noisy on a Saturday night. We haven't been in a few years and we were glad we went again.
It’s our go to restaurant for an amazing dinner, fun and relaxing
Perfect service, perfectly prepared food and great wine collection.
Always made to feel special.
Our dinners were delicious, the servers fantastic. Jean Jacques was a gracious host. Though no fault of the restaurant, two couples, who we learned are “regulars” were extremely loud and boisterous. Their loud voices put a damper on our evening. Wish someone had said something to them.
Le Canard is remarkable in everything they do. Food, drinks, and the incredible service all make for a memorable and wonderful dining experience.
Exceptional place!! Worth a special trip!
This is a wonderful restaurant. Everything is good - food and service.
Food and service is always excellent! Ambience is romantic but relaxed.
We were there on an “off” night...I hope. None of the staff was familiar. Has management changed? Familiar dishes were indifferently prepared. I hope this isn’t a new normal. I love the old Le Canard and I hope will be back to form or my next visit will be my last.
Both elegant and unpretentious. Good for any occasion or no occasion at all.
Each visit is like a breath of Paris with a friendly smile and a basket of fresh bread and butter. Their onion soup is awarded annually best in the Hudson Valley but each day the chef also makes a vegetable puree soup that is equally delicious. Coupled with their own crab cakes, mussels, and salads the lunch menu is just enough food to get you through the afternoon ... and for dinner time, their full offering of roasted duck, salmon, beef, lamb, and steak is complimented with fresh vegetables and homemade desserts. It doesn't get any better than this. ALWAYS the best choice to eat whenever you are in Kingston. Unfortunately closed for Tuesday lunch and all day Wednesday, but otherwise open regular hours.
As always, a semi-magical trip across a relatively non-descript threshold, on an unprepossessing street, into an out-of-the-way corner of the 6th or 10th arrondissment of Paris.
This is one of the nicest restaurants in the Hudson Valley. The ambiance is reminiscent of a Parisian bistro. The staff is friendly and very French. The food is fabulous. For appetizers we had mussels meunière and raw oysters. Both were fresh and flavorful. Dinner was the roast duck and beef bourguignon. The duck skin was crispy and the meat tender and moist. The beef bourguignon was excellent. Dessert was a flourless chocolate torte. Perfect way to end a perfect meal.
Loved the berry roast duck, the duck confit and the Tarte Tatin. This was a great find!
