L'Auberge Chez Francois
It's been probably 20 years since my wife and I last were at L'Auberge. It was back in the days before OpenTable and when you had to call 2 weeks exactly before the day you wanted to dine in order to get a reservation. It was good to return there for our anniversary, and it is something we'll repeat again.
The restaurant has lost a step, I think. On a Tuesday night it was doing good business, but it wasn't full.
My wife raved about the duck breast, my special, halibut, was good, but not 5 stars worth. The lemon tarts for desert were also great. The prices were high, but the ambience and service made it something we could handle for a special occasion.
It was such a beautiful day that we chose to sit on the patio. Very spacious in a lovely setting with well maintained landscaping. The prix fixe lunch was an excellent value. We were very happy with our selections among many choices (appetizer: pate assortment, roquefort/apple tart; entre: grilled salmon, Alsatian sauerkraut and meats; dessert: lime tart (special of the day), plum tart). “Extras” included garlic bread, bread basket, split pea soup, small beer or wine, coffee/tea with dessert. Highly recommend!
A wonderful evening for a 3 hour dinner. The presentation and the execution were first class. This was a real, old fashioned classic cross between Alsacion and French. Too many places/chefs are selling just the "sizzle". Not this one Will definitely keep going back.
The food, service, ambience was Fabulous!
Exquisite service, incredible array of offerings, and knowledgeable staff. Every detail executed with near perfection.
Our server was wonderful, paying attention to presentation, while being very friendly and helpful.
Excellent as always !!!
I sat outside on the patio. It was quiet and a perfect night. The service was outstanding and the food exceeded expectations.
Celebrated my son's 21st birthday. All the food was excellent and the servers were knowledgeable, timely, and friendly. Had a great meal.
Delicious food. Yes, it is pricey, but the ambiance and the food are outstanding!
Unquestionably one of the premier Washington area restaurants for many years. Delightful scenic setting, everything to perfection.
Food was excellent as always but disappointed as we were given a young new waiter there for his first night. He was unfamiliar with several menu items and awkward confused in service process. I should have mentioned it during the dinner but chose not to embarrass him. The evening was below the CF normal standards.
Lunch was absolutely delicious and our waiter was extremely pleasant. My only complaint is that our waiter did not explain that there were additional charges for salads, deserts on the fixed prix menu. Our bill was about $30 more than I expected. I would have appreciated knowing about any additional charges.
Wife and I went to L'Auberge to celebrate her birthday. This was our first time here and we both loved it. I created the reservation online through OT, and then called them to see if they could change the time, to which they were most accommodating. Their service is top notch and their food timings were perfect. Their 5 course meal was excellent from beginning to end.
Great experience & excellent service.
Food was amazing can’t wait to go back again to try more food on the menu
Thank you so much. Excellent food, presentation and service. Love it
This my favorite restaurant, and is consistently among the best in the whole DC area. It was my parents favorite as well. We go every year for birthdays and anniversaries. It is perfect for that special date or romantic occasion. The food is wonderful and the service exceptional. If you go for dinner, you will probably pay over $100 per person. If you want something slightly cheaper, try the Sunday brunch, or the Brasserie grill downstairs. Best items are the lobster, halibut, twin beef medallions and medley of beef, lamb, veal and lobster tail. There is typically a vegan selection, and they can also make whatever else you want. They are known for their hot soufflés for dessert. They also have a seasonal garden with farm to fresh items on the menu. You will walk away from any meal filled with wonderful memories and wanting to come back soon.
This place is very nice. Food is delicious. Service is impeccable. But dinner shouldn't cost $335 for two people. No dinner is worth that much $$$$$.
I had the veal and it was very dry and awful. Other than that everything else was very good. Great place to come for special occasion with a group.
It was great. The food was amazing. We will go back.
Good value for the brunch menu with decent portion.
Very disappointing early Mother’s Day lunch on Saturday.Service was way off their previous standard. We waited over 40 minutes just to get a flimsy paper menu and about 15 minutes for a steward to answer a question about the wine list. We never received the small “palate cleanser” nor the chocolates that usually come with the check. Overall very disappointing as we were treating guests to what we assumed would be a lovely experience based on past visits.
Everything was perfect, best lobster dish I ever had!
The wait staff was lovely. (I would however suggest that they not hang out in the hallway outside the kitchen) The ambiance was lovely. The food presentation was beautiful, however the actual taste was disappointing. My salad was grossly over salted. Although my steak was cooked to perfection on the inside, the outside was actually crispy. I could only eat half of it. My daughter had the creme brûlée and it was tasteless. I had the Irish creme coffee to end the meal and it tasted as if it were nothing but straight liquor.
We just returned back to America after living in Europe for 10 years. I guess I expected better from this restaurant, especially considering the price. We probably won’t be back.
What a wonderful dinning experience. They make each and every diner feel as if they are are their top priority.
Absolutely delicious! The food is so wonderful. Our go to spot for all occasions.
The waiter was perfect. He allowed us all the time we wanted to order drinks, select our food and enjoy 3 1/2 hrs with couple of good friends who, sadly, are preparing to leave the area. And despite the amount of time we spent our table, we were never rushed and, in fact, we were given a complimentary round of champagne to finish our meal. Truly an outstanding and memorable experience! Thank you L’Auberge!!!
Great restaurant in arguably the best location in northern VA. Very quiet, romantic venue with beautiful patio seating as well as indoor seating. Front of house staff all professional and courteous. Food was excellent and prepared properly. I want to give recognition to our server who was flawless and a true professional. I don't recall his name, but he was being followed with a new server in training. Both did a great job.
Service slower than last time I went. It looked like our waitress was very busy.
We celebrated a birthday in style. Fine food, fine service. Upscale but not stuffy. Relaxed atmosphere with attentive service. We will be back.
Lovely spot for a special birthday. Thanks to everyone for making our group feel so welcomed.
Celebrated Mother’s Birthday, excellent as always!
Talking about souflees with some friends, and I told them, "I know a place!" This was both of their first time to dine at Chez Francois; this was my first time dining on the weekend. Our waiter was very thorough -- gave us a brief history of the restaurant, and encouraged us to ask any questions about the menu. Our food was absolutely delicious (as usual): escargot, wagyu beef cheeks, beef bourguinoun, souflees, etc., and all of us will definitely be back!
Absolutely my favorite place to go; a must for any special event! The food was superb, the service attentive and friendly. Just pulling in to the parking lot makes me smile, because I know it will be a wonderful evening!
Another five star culinary experience! Like dining at a Michelin rated establishment in the French countryside. We'll be back!
Great food and wine. Great service. Great ambience. Great place to celebrate special occasions
We had some major issues with pacing and food preparation. Foie Gras overcooked, we received the wrong chateaubriand. Worst experience we’ve had there and it was still enjoyable.
I have referred few of friends to go for lunch and dinner and they like it very much!
Mr Hassan is the best. He is the reason we go there!!
