Our first experience dining inside since Covid. It felt so different from the normal lovely hubbub of this, our favorite restaurant in the region. It was too quiet. The servers missed a couple things; bringing a salad fork and a sorbet spoon to my wife- very unusual. And it was a special occasion, my 81st birthday. I indicated that when I made our reservation, but nobody mentioned it while we were there and that’s very unusual. I wasn’t about to bring it up myself, thinking they surely knew about it. Guess not. Not like our first visit, either; we have been going there for 30 years. Can’t wait until the pandemic is over.
A perfect place to celebrate our 50th anniversary--excellent service and outstanding food, all among safely distanced diners (although we did have our private gazebo).
Great special occasion restaurant. Outside dining was wonderful
First meal out since March. We felt the staff provided excellent service with all precautions including gloves and face masks. We sat in a beautiful gazebo during the heat of the afternoon and felt perfectly comfortable with an overhead fan. The setting in the garden is idyllic and relaxing. Enjoyed our delicious lunch.
Trout dish was very thin. Could have put little more vegees with this dish. Blueberry dessert a la mode was cold. Pie should be hot and ice cream cold. My lobster dish was like before...good and right portioned.
As always, perfect food. Enjoyed excellent, reasonably priced Vouvray. The heirloom tomato salad was best ever. Covid precautions were well thought out and consistently employed. Wonderful experience.
All things considered with COVID it was an OK experience. Food was excellent as always. However, service was lacking especially at this price point. Waiter stumbled though the specials menu, forgot silverware, swept the crumbs off the table with his hands, and took a very long time to bring the check after asking for it. For $300 for a dinner for two, we expected more.
Incredible meal. One of the best i have had with service that was stellar! Absolutely stellar. World class professionals
Absolutely delicious, great service and ambiance. Hands down the best fine dining restaurant.
Always a great meal. Glad to be back and look forward to many more meals at our favorite DC restaurant.
Not sure if it's allowed with COVID ...some small fans would be nice just to keep some air moving ... even at 8:45 at night. Thanks!
what a wonderful experience-
we did outside dining which was wonderful- tables a good 10 feet apart-
food was incredible- each course individually was wonderful!
would highly recommend-
The outdoor patio is the most beautiful place for outdoor dining in the entire area. The gardens are full of fresh vegetables that the chef and staff pick right before serving. The tomato salad is seasonal and is now available. The soft shell crabs are stuffed with crabmeat which are seasonal as well. The gorgeous scenery is only enhanced by fantastic food, wine, and next to perfect service.
Just lovely, as always. An enduring reliable favorite.
As always, we had a wonderful time at L'Auberge Chez Francois. The food and service were up to the usual excellent standards, and the outside setting was delightful. We look forward to many more visits in the future, and we recommend this wonderful restaurant to one and all.
It was great!!! Just as we remembered. We'll be going back soon.
We celebrated my husband’s birthday with a family lunch. It was fabulous!
We were seated on the patio and David was our server. He was energetic and engaged even though the weather was warm. We have been coming to Chez Francois for many years and will ask for David on our next visit.
We reserved L’Auberge after re-opening (due to COVID-19). They cleared the dining rooms and reset it to make sure there are required 6ft distances between tables. They had arranged for all-weather tents in their garden which looks comfortable but we opt to sit inside due to excessive heat. It was a belated birthday lunch since real birthday fell during shutdown. As usual, we had very pleasant experience. Even our known faces chatted with us after such a long time.
Special as always, outstanding food and service.
L'Auberge is serving the same wonderful food as always and taking social distancing seriously. We ate in a large room with only 6 tables, all well spaced. For most of the night, only one of the other tables was occupied. The excellent staff all wore masks and gloves. We each had the soft-shell crab special as an appetizer (no additional cost) with one lobster entree and one scallop and shrimp entree. The dessert souffle was an good as ever.
We knew this was the place to break our restaurant 'fast'. The outside terrace, completely covered by an open-sided tent, was very pleasant even on a hot day. Tables were spaced far apart and we felt very comfortable. Service, as always, was outstanding. L'Auberge turns even an ordinary lunch with friends into a very special occasion. Merci!
What a joy to return to the re-opened, if socially distanced, L'Auberge Chez Francois! From the mushroom crepes to the trout almondine, from the salmon three ways to the tournadoes of beef, we've longed to savor these among our favorite meals and they were as delicious as remembered! (And of course, the little lagniappes, including the addictive garlic toasts and the tart and creamy palate cleansing lemon sorbet delighted our palates and made us smile and feel all was still as it should be at L'Auberge.) The only thing we missed? Sharing the space with more happy guests celebrating special occasions! We look forward to when they can join us again in filling up this beautiful space.
The restaurant had only recently reopened but the experience was almost the same as usual, despite the spaced-out tables and masked wait staff. They had installed a very large tent outside to accommodate the extra table spacing.
We were inside because it was a very hot day. However, there were several others outside. Our reservations were for 5:45 p.m.
Always a great choice for a meal on the patio. But I'd probably go to Jacques Brasserie next time for lunch.
We went there to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary - it was wonderful! We enjoyed ourselves completely! Service was perfect, great wine and great meal.
What a wonderful evening dining on the Chez Francois patio. It felt so good to be back enjoying the delicious food, the exceptional service and the beautiful scenery.
It is the place we celebrate our anniversaries with another couple. That got postponed due to the Covd-19, but the service is excellent and even more so this time. The staff seemed genuinely glad to see us. The food also was excellent, but it is service that makes the overall evening outstanding.
The same wonderful restaurant it has been for more than 60 years!
Our first restaurant dining experience since the quarantine. We were welcome at the door like old friends coming home after a holiday. Ambiance & service were excellent. We recognized some faces behind the mask including Jacques who waved between courses. Desserts are outstanding but my “little campers in garlic” (snails) brought back great memories. Merci K&B
We miss the foods when the father, Monsieur Francois, was the master Chef .
Delicious food and great service!
Outstanding, simply outstanding in every way.
Outstanding modifications to outside dining due to Covid. Could not have been more comfortable.
