Slow but not bad service. Food was delicious and everyone in my party really enjoyed it. A but pricy, but scenery, love music, and location was outstanding!
Food was delicious...inspired and tastey. Much of brunch menu is a la crate so it gets pricey. Had a small issue with our order..but rectified. Nice piano player but the restaurant could use a bit of a makeover. Service for the most part was very attentive. Will return bc the food for brunch really is very delicious.
My family has been to Laporta's several times and always had a positive experience. The food and atmosphere are always very good. This time we had an issue with our server and the music. While the musical entertainment was tasteful, I felt more like I was at a concert than dining out. The flute was so piercingly loud we had difficulty carrying on conversation at our table. Our server was Nina, who was rude and pushy. She seemed to be under the impression we were all there for her and not the meal. She repeatedly tapped on shoulders and reached over us instead of a polite "Excuse me". She even complained "No one is listening to me". We were a party of 10 which included a 96 year old grandfather. I understand that it may be difficult to get everyones attention but shouting is not the answer. I would still recommend Laporta's because the food is excellent.
My friends and I always enjoy an evening at Laporta's. The food and service is awesome. The music is amazing. It's our favorite place for a relaxing night out.
A great menu....lots of variety. Super service and the music was the best ever in a restaurant!
The service was great. The food was wonderful. Price very reasonable. Love the music. One of the few restaurants I take my family when they visit. I like to make a good impression.
My mom thought Mother’s Day dinner was wonderful. The food was very good along with the service. I will definitely dine there again.
Excellent food and service. I highly recommend. We did the Mother’s Day brunch menu. 3 courses and we all enjoyed. There was also live music which was a nice touch.
We went to Mother’s Day brunch. I have eaten at Laporta‘s many times in the past and enjoyed it. However today the service was not great. We understood that they were crowded but there’s a minimum level of service one would expect if you’re going to be paying $50 per person for brunch. I asked for a simple substitution (because I hate brussel sprouts). I was informed that there could be no substitutions. I ordered something different instead. My wife and son ordered the fillet and eggs. My wife ended up sending hers back because it had a sauce on it that wasn’t on the menu. My daughters chicken dish came with an avocado mixture on it (again it wasn’t on the menu). They took both their entrées back and served them the way the menu had described them.
The most disappointing thing however was it was supposed to be a jazz brunch.LaPorta’s always has great music. Today we ate brunch listening to a kid playing a video game at the bar.
Warmly greeted and well taken care of by our waitress. Her recommendations were spot on without being pushy. Food was well seasoned and delicious. Although this was a busy, rainy Mother’s Day, our waitress was attentive and our food came out hot and in a timely manner. We will be recommending this restaurant to others coming in from out of town.
The flash fried oysters were perfectly cooked and so delicious. Our waiter was new but he did a good job for his limited experience. He let a few things slip by but it wasn't terrible. We will be back again!
The food is just ok. They try to be creative, but some dishes are not well executed. Our waiter was not good. He was not attentive, left us sitting for awhile before taking our drink order. Etc.
Amazing ambience, The trio had an incredible set list, the coincidentally played all out favorites. We will definitely return.
Do not miss Monday-Tuesday dinner special. Three of us, each had exceptional entree. House Cabernet is very good. Server was upbeat, helpful and professional. Thoroughly satisfied with a last minute choice - LaPorta overdelivers. Jazz pianist is a bonus!
Every thing was great—we eat here often and have introduced many friends to the restaurant. We’re never disappointed.
On an Easter escape to Alexandria we were recommended Laporta’s by the bellman at the Hilton. We were very pleasantly surprised by the wonderful food and live jazz! We started with the cheese and salami platter which was delicious followed by the seafood tutti del mare which was full of fresh fish with a wonderful fishy sauce! We followed this with a Caesar salad accompanied by some crisp Chardonnay! Our waiter, I believe was Spanish and couldn’t have been nicer and made us feel attended to but totally non-rushed. The musicians and singers did a nice job not overpowering the restaurant with their music so it was easy to still talk but the whole atmosphere felt cozy and relaxed- a great tonic after a day of super spring waterfront walking!
The experience was immaculate, outstanding, beautiful and very pleased with everything aspect of our dinner.
Great food and great service! If the music would have been acoustic, the ambiance would have allowed for regular conversation.
Atmosphere was excellent, the server was friendly and attentive, food was outstanding. We have the Filet Tips special, which was cooked perfectly. Live Jazz was impeccable and added to the romantic dinner. Laporta is our go-to restaurant for date night, special occasions or gathering with friends.
The food was delicious and well prepared and the jazz singer was outstanding. A unique dining establishment!
As a venue for business lunch, Laporta's Restaurant is excellent. The ambience is tasteful; excellent food and courteous service; convenient parking; and, the noise level perfect for business discussion.
It was our first visit and it was my husband's 65th birthday. Frankie, our server, was so informative and friendly providing great information about the restaurant's history and menu. Loved the pianist. We were there on April 9, and took advantage of the Monday & Tuesday Specials. 50% discount on all bottles of wine was awesome!
We will definitely be returning.
Food was great but $36 was a little pricey for the special of braised beef tips.
Wonderful service and great food. Except for the mahi mahi, the portions were perfect size. Sauces are a bit spicy - would be nice if they were optional or offered on the side. Also, side choices are entree specific. A choice would be nice. Even so, we enjoyed our evening here. The bar was noisy, but it was the semi-final March Madness game, so maybe on other nights it’s a bit quieter?!
Enjoyable dinner with live music. Very nice music not too loud. Food was great but service a bit slow. I would go again.
This is the second time I’ve been to Laporta’s. Their food , specifically any pasta dish , is amazing. I got the chicken envoltine which came with potato wedges this time verses the mushroom pudding the first time. My dad had the salmon fettuccine, mom had the tuna marte, and boyfriend had the chicken fettuccine. I tasted everyone’s haha.. my only dislike was the sauce on the chicken envoltine was a tad salty . Everything else was delicious
I only have service 3 stars because when we arrived we were not told about the specials by the server nor did he bring the table any bread . We also decided to stay a little longer after dinner to listen to the music and have a few more cocktails but the server never returned to our table. I understand was has initially asked for the check but as we continued to sit he could have at least circled back around.
Frankie the waiter/bartender made some great food suggestions! The steaks were cooked & cut perfectly. The appetizer (Chesapeake Bay fresh oysters) & sides were delectable. Frankie whipped up a special request cocktail, a Mexican Martini and it was as good as the ones in Texas! Would definitely recommend.
Food very good as usual.
We stop there every 6 months when we come to meetings in Alexandria.
An Alexandria gem. Great service, good food and wonderful jazz! The only complaint was the slow service; our server had a party and didn’t have time to tend to us in a timely manner. He took so long to bring. Desert menu that we didn’t order.
As usual, service was excellent, the menu exciting and the food fantastic. And free parking!
Very nice for lunch. Dinner can be noisy from their jazz bands and larger crowds.
Great place to try if you love live jazz music. Is a bit noisy towards the musicians but that is expected. The food is great!!
the meat was of low Quality, the Service was too quick, you had the last spoonfull still in the mouth and the next course came. Music was great.
Great, family-owned Italian place. Food was excellent and while very traditional menu, I loved it. Lasagna. Clam sauce spaghetti. Chicken Parmigiana. Get there on Monday or Tuesday, and get this —- Two full-sizes entrees and a bottle of wine for $29.95. Not each. $29.95 in total! With an added salad and desert, we left for about $60 with tip. This is my new ‘local favorite’. And I expect to return many, many times.
We loved the music, the atmosphere, the menu selection and the cocktails oh and a nice wine list. We will return again.
We enjoyed the cuisine and the fine music! It was very enjoyaable.
Loved the music and the specials for dinner were especially good!
Good food, good music, nice place to go to. Service was very good attentive.
I took my sister there for her birthday. Everyone was so nice. The food and entertainment was great.
We had an outstanding experience. The food and the jazz were both exceptional. We look forward to returning the next time we are in town.
