What a find! Walking into Church and Union was like entering a **restaurant** you would see in NYC or LA. The **restaurant**'s waiting area has gorgeous deep leather couches and large tables to put your drinks on. Looking up at the ceiling, you see a local artist's work of the entire book of Sun Tzu's The Art of War (a favorite of mine). A gorgeous artificial Japanese Cherry Tree was hovering over the room. Stunning!
We were a bit early for our reservation, so my husband and I opted to sit at the elegant concrete bar for a drink first. (I loved it so much I want this as my kitchen island). The back wall of the bar was lit by soft candles.
Our bartender greeted us quickly and introduced herself as Katlin (if I am spelling this wrong, I am so sorry) gave us water and menus. While we looked at the menu and each decided on drinks. Another bartender stopped by and asked us for our drink order - (The Saint and Peach Pit off the cocktail menu). I ordered The Saint (13) made with gin, St. Germain, grapefruit, and egg white- and was not a fan - you could taste the egg white only - however, my husband liked it and switched me the - the Peach Pit (14) bourbon, peach, peach tea, mint, lemon, cardamom bitters was dynamite. While we enjoyed our drinks, we moved seats to give a little space to people next to us (we could hear their conversation).
The acoustics in the **restaurant** made things very loud. Whether it was the woman on her phone, the group of fun-loving ladies celebrating at the table behind us, or the outdoor noise. It made it hard to hear at times.
After enjoying our drinks for a few minutes - we decided to eat at the bar, order another cocktail (featured drink of the day, "The Tree of Life"), and the First Course - The Butcher Block ($24) with added cheese (18) and the Jerk Octopus (17). Our next drink came, and a short time later, the Butcher Block and Octopus.
Where to begin - the Butcher Block (I screwed up; I should have taken pictures) was four rows with 10 or 12
