Just completing its first year on the dining scene in Telluride, Kazahana offers classic Japanese cuisine prepared by Chef Naoki Takahashi and his team. Sourcing the freshest seafood from around the world, the menu includes sushi rolls, nigiri, sashimi, chirashi, tartar and ceviche, as well as a selection of salads and hot entrees. Beverage options include Japanese inspired cocktails, whiskey, beer, and a top notch selection of sake and wine.     I love sushi. But, sushi in the mountains, 9000’ elevation, about as far from the ocean as you can get? $200 (+ drinks) per person (for the omakase)? What could possibly go wrong? I admit, I was prepared for disappointment. Well, it was delicious. It was imaginative. It was visually striking. The progression, textures and proportions were carefully considered. The service was excellent. Good sake selection. The sushi chef is quite skilled - clearly a cut above. Friendly, too. An outstanding birthday dinner.
