Nestled west of Chicago's Magnificent Mile and east of the United Center, La Sirena Clandestina recalls the sneak-away beachside joints of coastal Brazil that inspires its name ‘hidden mermaid.’ Chef John Manion serves Latin-local fare with influences that draw on his childhood in Brazil as well as two decades cooking in Chicago. Established in 2012 and given the Jean Banchet Award by the Chicago Tribune for Best Neighborhood Restaurant, La Sirena Clandestina has reviewed in publications such as Men's Journal, Food & Wine and Michigan Avenue Magazine. Its charming atmosphere with candlelit tables makes it an ideal setting for a date.

La Sirena Clandestina serves lunch, brunch and dinner.
Guests can try a variety of freshly prepared dishes like la bomba rice, grilled hanger steak with chimichurri and head-on prawns. This Fulton Market gem has a full bar that offers various drinks, including wine.

Excellent food. Enjoyed the ribs and prawns. Also the happy hour specials from 5-7 are quite good. Enjoyed both the apps and the drinks!

Such amazing food! We had the cheese empanada, lobster dip, and moqueca. Our waiter was excellent and I will definitely be back again to try other dishes on the menu.

Ate here with my girlfriend during happy hour on a Friday, as a date night. We were not disappointed! Everything was great, from the caipirinhas to the pao de queijo and kale salad to our seafood entrees.

Made reservation during weekday and probably didn't need one. Sat inside as hot day. Food not really all Brasilian but we enjoyed the kale salad and bone-in fried chicken nuggets. Caipirinha's were cachaca light with poor lime muddling and over sweet but nice they let us try at happy hour price. Too mall of a menu and not adventurous enough. Waitress didn't know anything about Brasilian food or different types of moqueca as they only offer the dende oil and coconut milk Baiana one and not my preferred lighter one moqueca capixaba from Espirito Santo. Obrigado!

The food was very good some spectacular like the empanadas and fried chicken, but example the kale salad was just Ok a little bland. The service was good and a nice patio. Would definitely go back.

I’ve never written a review before but trying to do a service to those considering dining here. Don’t waste you time. Extremely bland food. Half of the $34 steak was gray in the middle, the other half bloody. The ceviche had 0 flavor. Our waiter(s) never introduced themselves, switched half way through our meal without letting us know. Our dirty plates sat on our table for nearly 20 minutes. I actually felt embarrassed for the staff and whomever owns this establishment. With all the restaurants in the West Loop, I’m surprised this one is still open. You’re better off going to Olive Garden.

Went on a Sunday with 6pm reservations. Wasn’t crowded and we were there during happy hour which was also nice. Started with the Empeñadas (cheese and beef) which were outstanding. Great flavor and cooked beautifully. Moved into the Ceviche and Grilled Octopus. Both dishes were great and poured flavor with each bite.

Cocktails were great as well. We had a Pisco Sour and a Brazilian Ol Fashion. As a drinker of Ol Fashions it was a very nice version with many hints or tradition with a South American flair. Can’t go wrong.

We ate outside on Fulton St, which was great for people watching. I had the daily drink special, a frozen strawberry-rum concoction, which was delicious. My dining companion was a vegetarian, and there was really only one entrée for him, a risotto-like dish with a red pepper sauce, but he loved it. I had the fried chicken, which was delicious, but there was nothing else (no sides) with it; it would be a great plate to share (with an omnivore). We also had the frites, which were addictive, crispy and salty, which I like.

Loved this place! Came here for the first time to celebrate an anniversary, and they treated us to sparkling wine for the occasion as soon as we sat down. Our server was really knowledgeable about the menu and very friendly. Overall it was a great, fun meal. Get the cheese bread!!

The service staff were knowledgeable and friendly. The menu had good variety with respect to meats and seafood, but was light on vegetable choices. Loved the Brazilian flavoring. Atmosphere was very good -- quiet and sufficiently private table locations. Definitely would go back.

We had 815pm dinner reservations but didn’t get seated until 835 and there were open tables. They compensated for it by giving us free dessert and apologizing so that was appreciated. Service during dinner was great, food was delicious.

Food and cocktails were great. Our server inadvertently forgot to put my order in, which delayed my food about 15-20 minutes. While that was unfortunate, the waiter was very apologetic and comped some of our meal. Overall, good experience.

Quality of the food was ok, but nothing really stood out except for a rice dish which we were only learned after the meal was finished contained cheese. My partner has a dairy allergy and it’s very disappointing that a restaurant which charges so much for so little couldn’t be bothered to list cheese as one of the dish ingredients on their menu. The sirloin had good flavor but was small for the price and had several pieces of gristle which is low quality. Overall very underwhelmed. Doubt this place will still be open 12 months from now

Food was good, not fantastic. For starters, the pork empanada was better than the cheese empanada. Grilled chicken hearts were flavorful and delicious. Kale salad was good, and the octopus entree was only okay.

I’d been wanting to eat here for a while, and it didn’t disappoint! Food was delicious and sizzling hot; drinks were very tasty and appropriately strong. Overall, slightly more pricey than I’d say was fair for the amount of food. I’d definitely go back for drinks and maybe a snack.
