La Scala - Beverly Hills
What Insiders Are Saying
La Scala is red sauce Italian in Beverly Hills - but you're really here for the chopped salad.
amazing amazing experience. all thanks to our server Guy. Going back just for Guy. Food and ambiance was great too
Always packed because it is always good and reliable.
This is a very popular dinner venue of long standing. It is good to go early! We parked at the Wallis and walked a block to Canon where there are many restaurants for a pre theater dinner. The grilled shrimp and vegetable salad was delicious and very generous.
La Scala is a wonderful restaurant that has stood the test of time with wonderful Italian classics and cocktails. So glad that it continues to thrive.
Very enjoyable experience. Excellent food, ambiance & service. Highly recommend for an old taste of Hollywood.
We had the perfect dinner here tonight so delicious the service was terrific. I would love to back again before i leave LA for lunch next time. I recommend both!! Such a lovely location also. Its a must!!!
The food was good on Saturday. Our server was very nice, but not very attentive.
“Rat pack” cool meets Beverly Hill! La Scala is a classic...great food and great service. Don’t miss the lasagna!
We were very pleased with the service - very friendly, efficient & attentive. Our food was delicious & we would definitely go again! After reading some of the negative reviews, we were hesitant to keep our reservation, but they couldn’t have been more wrong!! Our experience was yummy! Highly recommend. Love the atmosphere!
Atmosphere and food were excellent, chopped salad and Delicious Martini!
Food and service - Outstanding as always.
We had a reservation but no table was available without a wait. We left.
Unfortunately every single time I go there I get one of the absolute worst services. They are slow and some waitresses especially one whom I wished I knew her name is extremely rude. I only go back because of their famous chopped salad but other than that would probably never o back again. I would give their service and most of their waiter/waitresses attitudes a zero. I mean you have to ask for what you need let's say peppers or fork at least 5 times from 5 different people until someone finally has mercy on you and brings them to you. Anyhow probably won't go back because their bad service never fails. Last time I was there that same waitress was so rude that I even called Ken at the head corporate to complain and of course he never called me back and after 5 attempts I gave up. Too bad because the food and the ambiance is good .. Oh well
I took a friend from out of town to her very first dinner at La Scala. On my recommendation, she and I both ordered the tuna chopped salad. Mine was fine, however, my friend’s salad was too salty for her, especially considering that she suffers from a kidney ailment. I called the server over and asked if she could substitute her barely eaten salad for another item on the menu. She informed us that while my friend was free to order another item, restaurant policy did not allow for the uneaten salad to be removed from the bill. We then called over the manager who reiterated the same stance and stated that if their policy was to take back food for any reason, the restaurant would not be able to make money. Our dining neighbors on either side of our table in this very crowded restaurant we’re in shock at the poor treatment that we received for our simple request. I mean, even McDonalds takes back a burger if it is not able to be consumed for good reason by the customer. With no other option, we paid our bill, and went next door to Porta Via which provided excellent food and service. I used to be a regular at La Scala; I have dined there since the restaurant was located on the corner of Little Santa Monica Blvd. and Beverly Drive, and that was many, many years ago. But I do not plan to return if this is the level of respect that they show to customers with legitimate food related issues.
They were so rude to the table next to us. They had a health restriction and they wouldn’t take her food back and give her something. Else to eat. They told her they would charge her for this salad, and she can order whatever else she wanted.
We love to start with either the Caesar or chopped salad and have tried most of the pasta dishes which are all delicious. I am a big fan of Vongole!
This restaurant is affirmatively bad. The food and wine are quite subpar. I would not recommend. Seriously.
Excellent service and wonderful food!
Have always looked forward to the original chopped salad - no longer - was terrible - mushy - and tasteless 🤢
Bread doughy and tasteless as well
The pasta were fine - nothing outstanding
Such a shame!
The service was poor this time. Proper utensils were not provided until asked for. Spoon for mussel broth of small fork to get mussels out had to be asked for at least tow times. No water was offered. At the conclusion of our meal we were given our check without asking if we wanted coffee or desert. After returning the check it took a long time to receive the card back and signing of the bill.
Service horrible. The waiter forgot we existed!!!! Food is old school Italian. If you are looking for a great restaurant, there are so many others to visit in Beverly Hills. Don't waste your money or time at this restaurant!!!!
We dined here due to proximity to the Wallis Theater. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly despite arriving 15 min late. Our server was very pleasant, prompt and honest. We ordered the chopped salad, which was excellent (half-order was plenty for 2 to share if ordering entree). We ordered pastas. The shrimp pasta in the creamy sauce was very good. (Spaghetti alla cognac). My friend ordered the spaghetti al Basilico, and it was very bland. We shared a Tiramisu for dessert which was good. I had the Antinori SuperTuscan red which was very good. Service was very good despite being very busy pre-theater, but we did have to ask twice for additional bread and had to ask to get Parmesan shavings. There was mainly a mature crowd this evening. It was more of a casual and high-energy ambiance than I expected but I do prefer that anyway. I've been in LA for most of my "mature" life and had never eaten at this "legendary" place before. It would be a good choice if you're going to the Wallis but otherwise I would not make a special trip to eat here.
Don’t order the Mussels. Chopped salad delicious. Bear in mind that they charge $25 corkage if you bring your own wine. Our server was fabulous, but the owners of this restaurant don’t replace a dish if you don’t like it. A great place to go if you want to long, quiet leisurely dinner.
Inattentive waiter. Don’t know if he had too many tables to cover but it took four different requests before he came over to our table.
Food preparation was not up to previous times. Pasta was over sauced and tomatoes were raw as opposed to cooked in the sauce or pasta as described on the menu.
Wednesday around 5:30 pm
Spaghetti with cognac was delicious, and the tiramisu was divine. The caesar salad, on the other hand, was uninspired. Overall lovely experience.
They had no record of my open table reservation and didn't bother to add my name after I showed them my confirmation. After 20 minutes of waiting, I had to go up to them and ask what's going on and they had no recollection of who I was. I had to show my reservation again and insist that they add my name to their list. They made me wait 35 minutes while they sat all other guests before me. Didn't bother to apologize or say they were sorry for their mistake. Terrible experience with their maitre d's.
I ordered something that I normally order and the waiter misunderstood because it was something custom. They brought me something that I don’t like and then when I asked to see the menu to get something else they said that was fine but they would not take it off the bill and what I like it boxed. Horrible service absolutely horrible.
Amazing food !
We enjoyed our dinner. We were able to be seated in a "quiet area" which we appreciated.
For some reason the restaurant cancelled my reservation with no explanation. Then they sat five people in a very small table that all the drinks and plates barely fit. Very disappointed. Use to be one of our favorite restaurants. Not anymore
I always love this Beverly Hills staple! The chopped salad is the best in town. The marinara sauce and chicken meatballs are like no other!
We had a terrible waiter. I’ve come before and had great service.
Our entrees came out before our appetizers & we had to flag down our waiter to get drinks. When we asked about desert, he acted like it was a major imposition.
It's hard to believe that after 60 years of being in business this restaurant can maintain great food and service. We had a lovely evening at La Scala!
Been a favorite for years, since I was a kid. Never disappoints. Incredible food, atmosphere, experience.
I have been in the food industry for most of my life and rarely have I come across a more arrogant and mean spirited restaurant chain. What was a minor problem was elevated to a category 5 Hurricane by a wait staff that was trained in the dark ages of customer service, not to mention a restaurant policy that puts no emphasis on making things right with the clientele. I don't want to share the minutia of my small story because the facts of my consternation this evening were so insignificant that I am shocked I have to write this at all. Suffice to say that a small $9 dessert was too much for this establishment to correct without treating my wife and I like we in a prison cafeteria and dared to ask for another serving. Lots of great places to eat in Beverly Hills, I don't have to come back. Dine at your own risk.
I had a great experience, the staff was great, accomodating and knowledgeable. Food was wonderful.Only downside was a patron that kept on staring throughout my entire meal and her partner cursing at the staff.
You can't beat the original Leon chopped salad. Before 6 PM, you can park for free in the underground parking lot across the street. I always ask for the french bread to be warmed in the oven which makes it even better. I also have them add lots of fresh-ground parmesan cheese on top, which they happily accommodate. It is good to make a reservation, but not essential.
The house took care of us the minute we walked in the door. parking was tight so we parked in a new parking garage across the street. The food was very good we enjoyed our dinner. I ordered Bolognese and my husband ordered pasta. Both were delicious.
The food is dependably delicious. I had Chicken with artichokes and ...don't quite remeber the details but it was really excellent and the sauce was fantastic.
We went for an early pre theater dinner. It was busy enough at 5:30 not to feel alone, and still pre crowd- quiet and peaceful. Their food is always good.
