Food and service were very good. Price of the cocktails were shocking when we got the bill! We each had 2 cosmopolitans (which were not the best we every tasted, but the most expensive). The price for 4 cocktails surpassed the price of 2 price fixe meals. I like the atmosphere, but don't think I will go back any time in the near future!
The environment is calming, tranquil and charming. The servers are friendly and helpful. The food is out of this world. We had the lasagna and my son said that it was the best that he had had in him life. The chocolate mousse cake was fabulous!
This is a special place for us for sentimental reasons. It is a nice long-time operation with dependable and comfortable ambience and service. It's not trendy or chaotic, just a nice quiet place for dinner in a smaller venue with a piano and live entertainment. Insider tip: make sure to ask the maitre d' for wine suggestions and offerings which may not be on the wine list. We've found a few lesser known wines that way.
We had a delicious meal. Three of us ordered from the reasonably priced prix fixe menu and enjoyed chicken, fish, and porcini ravioli. Appetizers were also very good. The desserts were excellent- especially the tiramisu. I would definitely go back. Service was excellent and we got to our 7:30 curtain on time.
the staff was very accommodating and quick to take our order, our food was a little scarce but tasted good.
Very reasonable price and close to the theater. They had me at my play in no time. I wouldn't go out of my way for La Rivista though.
This is basically a neighborhood Italian restaurant that happens to be in the theater district. Our hold pre-theater haunt of Da Rosina closed, and Joe Allen, our other "regular" was booked, so we gave La Rivista a try. It's pretty good; it's not a Michelin restaurant, it doesn't try to be. The service was a bit rushed, but that's fine if you, like we were, trying to make a curtain. But we still managed to be there for 90 minutes without feeling like we overstayed our welcome. They were very friendly, the food was fine, and my wife, the pickiest eater in the universe, was happy. So yes, we will be going back.
I had the minestrone, which was OK, and the risotto with fava beans and shrimp, which was also OK. The shrimp was just the slightest overcooked, but the dish was all about the rice, as it should be.
We had the price fix menue before a show. Service was great - there was plenty of time to get to a matinee . The wine was a large pour. Great selections. We were really happy with everything.
Can not say enough about this place. Everything was perfect. Service was attentive and the food was outstanding. Each plate better than the other. And the pre-theater price of $30 was a steal. Can’t wait to go back
Superb will try to get there as often as I can. Will definitely recommend to everyone that I know.
The food, service, and atmosphere are excellent. The mushroom ravioli was a delicacy!
We had an early dinner and opted for the fix menu which contained a nice selection. However, my husband and I were not impressed with the food (chicken was dried and shrimp with risotto no much flavor). Service and ambiance were very good. If you go, I will recomend to choose from the main menu since I see so many good reviews about the food in open table.
Always delicious with outstanding service. I highly recommend this lovely restaurant. Live music too!!! In a city full of wonderful restaurants La Rivista is the tops.
Awesome drinks and food!
Lovely pre theater spot with a great price fix menu. Service is top notch and the food is very good. They can get you in and out fairly quick but you can also dine leisurely without feeling rushed. Reservations recommended but they will always try to accommodate walk in’s.
The restaurant was nice, but we were underwhelmed by the presentation of the food. We did the price fixed menu. I could’ve made the same stuff at home.
Meh. Service was so slow and inattentive that although we got there with 2 hours to spare for dinner pre-theatre, the 3 of us that ordered the pre-fixe dinner left without dessert. The food, while good enough, was nothing special. The wait staff was either spread too thin or asleep on the job. I had to ask for water, menus, to place our order, and the check when we finished (without dessert). So underwhelmed. I should’ve known it wouldn’t be great given that there were still open seats the day before our show, but I was optimistic anyways based on some good reviews posted here. I was wrong. So many better choices.
Good place to go before a Broadway show.
The food was fantastic. The servers were attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was perfect for a small get together with family. Overall this was a great experience.
We celebrated my birthday and I have to say, it was the best Italian dinner I ever had. And, the wait staff was excellent and so nice and professional. I LOVE LA RIVISTA and would recommend to any family, friends or theater goers. GO ......................YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED !
Food was great! Place is quaint! Waiter was ok hardly seen him.
Show dinner. The prefix was exceptional.... $30 and all inclusive!
I love coming to La Rivista after or before shows because they understand the time limits. Before we even got our coat off, bread was on the table and the cheese man was waiting for us. They never rush you, yet they are anticipating everything you need. I love that you can get a price fix menu on a Saturday evening, and the service is excellent!!
Have been here several times. Food is always excellent. Nice atmosphere and great service. Near the theaters but not crazy like some restaurants. Also inside it is not crowded so you can have a conversation without feeling like the people at the next table can hear everything you say.
La Rivista has now merged with Broadway Joe's Steakhouse, so both Italian food and steaks are available. The food was very good, and there's a reasonable price-fixed dinner menu. They have a pianist, but only after 8pm.
I always enjoy eating here when I’m visiting NY. It is a quaint atmosphere with wonderful music. It’s one of locals favorites, so you know it’s got to be good.
What a find! Even though we were 30 minutes early for our reservation, the host kindly seated is right away. Every staff member we were served by was friendly and efficient. The food and wine were delicious. Out of every menu posted on Restaurant Row, this place has the best prix-fixe options and the best price! I will gladly return often.
Prompt seating, fun ambiance with piano and entertainment, nice wine list, good meal and conscientious service.
This was a return visit for us, and we will certainly be back many many times. A true find in Times Square!
Great price fix menu with lots of great choices.
My husband, son & I went after seeing a play. We had a reservation but got there an hour early, they were very nice and they sat us with no problem. As it got later the restaurant became crowded and the tables are very close to each other so you could the conversations of the tables all around you.
When we first sat down the waiter can over and put a piece of parmigiano reggiano on our plates with a balsamic reduction, it was delicious. For appetizers my husband had a ceasar salad, my son had carpaccio and I had clams oreganata, the appetizers were very good and the service was very good.
For dinner my husband had veal picatta, my son had risotto with pheasant, I had veal parmigiana. My husband said his was delicious, my son said his was okay, mine was terrible. The veal tasted like cardboard, it was like something you would buy frozen in Costco. I wasn't being overly critical because my husband and son tasted it and agreed. I ate the cheese that was on top and that was all I ate of the veal.
The reason I wouldn't recommend La Rivista is because of the food and the tables being so closed together.
Service ok food too salty host not willing to compensate us or make things right I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant
Main meal was sparse, two tiny pieces of potatoes, no veggies. Desserts were excellent!
Always an enjoyable meal.
This place did not honor our reservation when we got there. Their customer service is terrible and the place is dead. There were plenty of free tables yet they had no interest in serving us. Go to Amarone around the corner instead. They are friendly and the food is excellent.
Food is always great. Noise was a little loud today but 18 college kids eating there. Once they left it was not so noisy. Decor could use a revamp it’s very tired looking. Still love this little gem in Manhattan
Out-of-towners we often dine here before a Broadway show. Fine pre-theater menu. BUT... but lately service can be painfully slow making dinner a clock-watching nuisance. It's one thing on a busy night, but on a night with few customers, ordering something not requiring slow cooking, time passes and the staff ignore you; the blood pressure rises. NOT GOOD! We have to reconsider our loyalty to this place.
The restaurant was phenomenal and has combined an Italian and Eclectic American Steak House present. We had 14 guests and the wait staff was very professional, the menu was quite good, and the choices of food were very diversified and great reoresnatoves of their food class. All the guests enjoyed all the appetizers and main courses and we look forward to coming back there soon.
Went for a Pre-theatre dinner with friends. The restaurant was crowded and with the tables on top of one another the noise level was quite high. The food was good and the prix fixe dinner was a real bargain. The wine list had a number of good reasonably priced options
