My friend wanted to celebrate a happy occasion with me and I suggested La Pergola. The food is always memorable and the staff couldn't be more attentive. You can always find new specials and additions to the menu. What a superb way to entice repeat customers. Kudos to the owners!
Very nice northern Italian restaurant in Millburn NJ with pretty decor and easy to carry on a conversation despite the restaurant having lots of patrons on this busy Friday night.
Staff is very attentive and restaurant is BYOB. Very many house specials which lots of variety in meat, pasta and fish entrees. Our party of 4 enjoyed 2 house specials and 2 off-the-menu pasta dishes which were delicious. Will definitely return & highly recommend.
Always great food and excellent service
We went to La Pergola on New Year's Eve. Walking in the restaurant was crowded and festive. Once we sat down the disappointment began. Service was non-existent and when a waiter finally came by he just asked if we were ready to order, not even a hello or happy new year, and certainly no smile. After that it was nearly impossible to get anyone to help you for the rest of the night. We were excited by the large menu, but each thing I asked for was sold out and so had to choose something I really didn't want. The food was fine, nothing special. The bill was special - $100 per person. Usually on New Year's Eve a price fixe comes with some extras - a few chocolates, whatever. Not here. Nothing more that what would be on their usual menu at twice the price. Not going back!!
Awful. Food was tasteless, salad lettuce was not properly dried. Service was non existent and both gruff and unfriendly. Food was basically thrown at us without having cleared the table.
The New Years champagne was left for us to self serve.
Possibly the worst dining experience we have ever had.
First time I ever did not leave a tip.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is always excellent; the staff is always courteous and professional, and the ambience is beautiful. Dining at La Pergola is always a first class experience.
Excellent!! All of us thoroughly enjoyed everything about our experience. We decided that La Pergola will be our new go to!!! Happy New Year!!!
Outstanding food, attentive and friendly service, relaxing classic ambiance. Will return soon
Whenever we see a show at Paper Mill Playhouse, we always come here for dinner. It is just a short trip down the hill!
Everything we order is delicious and the owners are husband and wife team. The wife is the chef and the husband is the host. What a team!
The staff is friendly and attentive - never disappoints!!
Always wonderful. Delicious eggplant rolls Toni, fried calamari, crispy roast duck, sole Francese with linguini. And the special rib eye steak served on a wooden carving board with roasted potatoes and asparagus, yum! The only thing was it was huge-for 2-3 people. We had to take it home. Amazing the next day though...
Our second trip here not nearly as good as the first. Christmas Eve dinner but our table often forgotten by servers. Meals arrived at different times and had to ask repeatedly for bread, wine etc. It was disappointing and not inexpensive.
Every time we dine at La Pergola it’s always a treat and an exceptional experience. This is a neighborhood gem with fabulously luscious homemade gourmet food and lovely service. Highly recommend!
This place is great! The food was fantastic. We sat at an excellent table. Unfortunately, we went on the Saturday before Christmas and there were a lot of large parties (we were just 2) and I guess, not enough trained staff, so our service was terrible! I mean no one approaching us to take our orders for at least 20-minutes. Then the waiter forgot to tell us the specials.
Then we waited another 20-minutes after being given the desert menu. I wished the young man refilling water, wine and delivering menus was my waiter because he was good. So overall, go, the food and value really are in favor of a visit. The service may stink.
Great food and service. It’s also byob! Highly recommend
The space is beautiful, the service is attentive, and the food is amazing. On this visit the Endive salad, burrata, butternut squash ravioli and the eggplant lasagna were absolutely delicious. Oh, and the best fried zucchini I have ever had. I am looking forward to my next visit!
Went to dinner before a show at Papermill. We were short on time and were able to have an appetizer and dinner and made it to the show on time. The service was excellent and the food was awesome. We shared the stuffed mushroom appetizer and also shared chicken rollatini and butternut squash ravioli. Everything was fresh and delicious. We enjoyed our meal and would definitely go back.
The restaurant was lovely! The food delicious and service wonderful. We had tickets for the theatre and the staff made sure we were out in plenty of time including dessert and coffee. My theatre group will be back!
Holiday dinner for 8 went perfectly. Great service and delicious food. Thank you!
Excellent Italian. It is comparable to best in NYC. A real treat.
Waited 45 min before being seated with reservation. Owner did not acknowledge any reservations from growing crowd. One other waiter begrudgingly cae to table with 4 slices of bread for the party of 4. Did it reurn with menus for another 15 min. Food eventually came 45 minutes later which wa s disppont5ing to say the least th fish ws smothered in what looked like tomato sauce from a jar. Have excused the bad service in the past because food ws good but definitely will not return. Owner did not offer apologies
Wonderful dinner with friends. Food was fresh and delicious. Great service!
Exceptional food & service!
My wife and I had lunch for our anniversary at La Pergola. Everything was perfect. Starting from their being a lunch specific menu, byo, able to share (we split a mezzaluna main course as an appetizer), delicious stuffed shrimp in a wine and butter sauce with a touch of mustard, a shared lemoncello cake. Our waiter was attentive and personable, enhancing the meal.
We have never had anything other than wonderful experiences at Le Pergola. The noise level is "energetic" when they're crowded, but isn't that what anyone would expect from a popular restaurant? The food is always impeccable, and that's what it's all about. Looking forward to our next visit.
Perfect setting for a business dinner. If you are from out of town know that many of the area hotels are byob.
Not thrilled with stuffed artichoke. Clams appy muscles appy, delicious 😋 eggplant lasagna excellent.
We arrived a little early, however we were seated at a very nice table immediately. The service was impeccable. The food was served hot, but not too fast. The appetizers and mains, were delicious. Definitely will be back.
We’ve eaten here a few times before and have never been disappointed. Great food, great atmosphere, friendly staff.
The food was good. The service was very slow. We ate there on a Thursday evening before the 7:30 show at the PaperMill. We got there at 5:30 and left at 7:10. The server was fine but it seemed as though he was the only one in the whole restaurant. The special, lasagna bolognaise flavorful. The potato gnocchi was also prepared well. I would recommend the restaurant but leave yourself enough time for your meal.
Excellent as always
La Pergola is beautifully set up, with tables far enough apart to give each privacy. There was a large party there, and it remained quiet and comfortable. The owner treated us as friends, their service was excellent, and the food was perfect! Of course, brining our own wine made the price perfect too. Can’t wait to go back.
Dad an early dinner before play. First time there and we found it to be great and will return. Service was very good and food was delicious. Very clean place.
What a fabulous restaurant. It may be filled to capacity and the servers take a long time to serve on weekends but on Monday night, (3) tables were filled and we had such attention.... The food was fantastic....
The mushroom soup was smooth and delicious. My husband had the meat lasagna which he said was the best lasagna he is ever had. I had a lemon sole Frances which was light and a delicious. The raspberry tart for dessert was also delicious. The food here is not to be beat. However it was a busy Saturday evening and it was a little noisy and the waiters were very busy which is why I gave it four rather than five stars
First time my salmon was raw and my husband pasta dish was not cooked correctly. He had pasta with shrimp.
Great food nice service . Best restaurant in town
The owner is quite obnoxious! They mischarged us and when we questioned him, he became quite belligerent! We won’t be returning there again! Such a shame because the food is good but the owners attitude and service were terrible!
The service, ambiance and FOOD IS EXCELLENT!! The best eggplant rollatina I have ever eaten. Love this place!!
A thoroughly enjoyable experience at La Pergola. If you are in a hurry, you may want to dine elsewhere -- but my husband and I liked the relaxed pace of our delicious meal, before walking over to Papermill for a show. We were greeted by the owner, and was asked if we were seeing a show.....we allowed for 1.5 hours, and our courses were paced as such.
We had the following:
One of the "special" salads with fried sardines -
Baby Wild Arugula Salad
Broccoli Rabe Riccota Gnocchi
Raspberry Tart served Warm with Vanilla Gelato
It's a BYOB, and there is a liquor store a few doors down, but if you forget (or change your mind) the owner is happy to arrange to have wine delivered to your table : )
