Ken Lo's Memories of China
Situated in London's exclusive Belgravia, Ken Lo's has long been a neighbourhood gem and continues to receive oustanding reviews. As well as impeccable service, the restaurant also offers an impressive wine list and is beautifully decorated with traditional Chinese style wood and fabrics for an atmospheric setting. For those in the know, the restaurant will also accomodate takeaway service.
This neighbourhood gem enjoys the patronage of well-heeled clientele from Belgravia and Knightsbridge. The restaurant's intimate and atmospheric interior is a perfect place to hold a business lunch or a celebratory dinner with friends.
Food slightly bland I have to say. Maybe unlucky with my order. Service good. Overall was ok but wouldn’t rush back sorry.
Very good food, one of the best in London
A superb restaurant which never disappoint: its food is always very tasty.
Ventilation needs to be better, food is good filling
Such a disappointment. We have been eating at Ken Lo’s Memories of China for more than 30 years, but this was our last time. Food was acceptable but expensive and the service very poor.
Our guest had last eaten at Memories of China 40 years ago.
He said it had lost nothing in quality over the years.
We don't have his age-old yardstick to make the comparison, but our evening was highly enjoyable, excellent food and service combined with a happy stroll down memory lane.
Good selection of main dishes - my party had the fixed price menu which was good value for money. Meal for 3 with two bottles of wine came to £175 which for Belgravia is a bargain.
Excellent menu, good food and service, pleasant ambience,
We booked this restaurant on it’s good name and had high expectations. What a disappointment, average food and unfriendly poor service on this occasion. Dissatisfied customers.
Dry good high end Chinese food, freshest ingredients, beautifully prepared and tasty
Excellent restaurant. We had a combination of items we passed around family style. Hits were the bok choy, beef, and salmon oriented dishes. We also liked the small appetizers we ordered. The Singapore noodles also were very nice. Wine selections (by the glass in our case) were paired nicely with the various items. Descriptions of spiciness levels were accurate. The wait staff were professional and knowledgeable.
The food was good but the value was high.
Always reliable. Everything is delicious and the service excellent although a touch awkward at times.
Unusually poor quality of food.....not hot, not fresh.....first time experienced this. Based on this experience I could not recommend Ken Lo’s until I experience the previous high quality, fresh food and consistent service which was all lacking.
Really delicious food- and great portions. Slight mix up on order but well dealt with by the manager
They are great. Been going for years. They kept the restaurant open for us this past Sunday.
One of my favourite eateries. Food variety and quality first class. Service unobtrusive but always there when you need it. Spacious layout with discreet areas. Highly recommended
Very good Chinese in a beautiful environment close to the theatre district. We had a very good meal of dry rubbed spare ribs, fried rice, shrimp with lettuce cups and sweet/sour chicken. All were tasty and nicely presented. We had a pre-theatre dinner and had only a 10 minute walk to see Wicked. Would recommend.
Still good but not what I have come to expect. I have eaten here many times over many years but it seems to have lost its edge. Has it changed hands?
Significant improvement in service with food as good as ever and pricing for the west end of london very good. This restaurant is back to its best once again. Wine offering is improved and reasonably priced. All in all a great experience.
Great food and service
The food was well prepared from high quality ingredients and well presented. It was a little low in garlic and spices, to reflect the mostly European clientele found in Belgravia.
The restaurant is clean and bright with mercifully no loud music. Unfortunately the tables for two are located around the walls, making them appear more cramped and isolated.
We did not see any Chinese waiters or restaurant staff, which rather detracts from the ambience.
The prices were fair for the locality.
Service was efficient but impersonal. No one lingered by our table to chat or ask about the food, and when we left there was no one to see us out.
The lack of interaction by the staff made it rather a sterile experience, for two elderly diners on a night out.
Service requires improving. We had to stand up and ask for service. The restaurant seems very short staffed.
Hadn’t visited this restaurant in years but it’s gone down in a big way. One staff member was attentive, most of the others were ill mannered. One didn’t know what we meant by Dim Sum (it’s a chinese restaurant...).
The food was very banal and not particularly well executed or tasty. Big disappointment. Ken Lo’s memories are long gone it seems.
Excellent food and service.
Best chinese ever. Great service . Amazing wine list. Lovely slightly nostalgic restaurant.
I would recommend a deliveroo order, their food is amazing however, their service was really lacking. I went as a party of four. They asked us how we wanted the food served timing-wise and I had replied as its ready, my normal statement as per Chinese-style Chinese food. They brought out our food all at once with no space to put it, so stood there holding our plates asking us where we wanted it. The manager after about a minute rushed over to apologise and waited for the food on our table to be eaten and then made us a fresh batch of food (or so I hope). Normally when you say as food is ready in any restaurant, if there is no space on the table, they shouldn’t bring the food out.
The soft drinks we ordered did not arrive, but appeared on the bill. They removed it once pointed out. The ice we requested had to be asked for 3-4 times over 30minutes.
We were there the day this restaurant opened and the quality and ambiance is still perfection.
Kenneth and Ann Lo are sadly missed but the legacy lives on and is a tribute to the dream they started.
Brilliant as always! This is our dependable, fancy/casual Chinese. Fancy food, casual atmosphere. Very good staff
The restaurant was virtually empty (there were only three tables including ours occupied)
The food was of reasonable quality although we felt the noodles were too salty.
The service was prompt but difficult was one of the waiters plainly could not speak English
Very good food, and first rate, excellent service in nice surroundings.
Great food-one of the best in the country
Excellent food with attentive waiters in a nice environment. Would recommend the set menu for two!
The food is always to a very high standard, the waiters are always attentive. Really great Mother’s Day dinner
Exelent food with amazing service! Very good price!!
Ken Lo’s was very nice if visiting London but it is not a restaurant that I, as a local, will rush back to as there are far better Chinese restaurants. The service was cheerful and they tried hard but there were two few waiters and it was hard to get their attention. The food, and in particular, my sweet and sour pork was a lower standard than I am used to and quite slimey. Coffee took so long that it was on the house which was a nice gesture. Disappointed as we were looking for a local Chinese to visit often.
We had a quick dinner before a film. Great service - the waiters worked together like a well-oiled machine :) food was delicious.
This was a very disappointing evening. I wanted to take a good friend for a lovely meal close to Victoria, and she had suggested Chinese. When I saw this restaurant close by, it seemed an obvious choice - but the evening was lacklustre in the extreme. I arrived ahead of my friend and opted to drink in the bar. It was hard getting the bartender's attention, and I felt ignored. When joined by my friend, she asked for a glass of champagne - and he could not understand the request. When that had come we were completely ignored. At no point did anyone come and ask if we were ready to go to our table - we eventually ended up going with our glasses in our own hands.
During the meal the service was constantly vague and very slow. And the food was incredibly UNremarkable - given the fame of the chef associated with the establishment. We had Peking duck that was ordinary - not unpleasant, but not piping hot and just 'standard'. This was followed by chicken with cashew nuts that was little better than a Waitrose version - and with the chicken being slightly tough and stringy. The sizzling seafood mainly consisted of rubber - the prawn and scallop were fine, but outnumbered. And the seasonal Chinese greens just dull.
I arrived at 7.55, my companion ten minutes later, and we left at 10.30, which was when we had finished our main course.
Very unimpressive, and I will not be returning.
My memories were good, reality poor. Expensive very average Chinese food in an outdated setting
We have been going to Ken Lo’s for years on business trips for the Crispy Duck. The best I ever had and will only order it from Ken Lo’s. If you are in London you need to go here.
