   Best birthday ever!! Great food and the waiter was awesome!!!!! My girls and I were so comfortable sitting there talking eating laughing enjoying ambience, we almost forgot we were going to moulin rouge at the Pantages 😂. We made our show.

   I usually don't write reviews but I have to note my experience last night. Nothing against Katsuya - I had preconceived notions about this place. It's in a touristy part of town, has a "sceney" vibe - which usually lends itself to less-than-stellar service and food. We chose Katsuya for pre-theatre birthday dinner because of the close proximity to the Pantages and we're so glad we did because the service and food was excellent. From the moment we walked in to be greeted by the Maitre D', to the server assistants serving us water, to our server, and the food runners, little things like table maintenance and walking me to show me where the restrooms are - all made up our delightful experience. And the FOOD! We initially ordered a lot of items and the server was thoughtful enough to have us make the final call if we want to wanted to add our final entree or not halfway into our meal (the Black Cod, and we did end up ordering it, and it was delicious) and everything we ordered was really (surprisingly...?) delicious! Like the corn crunch roll, never had a roll like that - so yummy! True hospitality is how you make the guests feel and this establishment far exceeded my expectations. Thank you for the lovely experience. Will definitely come back the next time we catch a show at the Pantages again.

   Food was good. The service was great. Didn’t like the 8% surcharge the restaurant charges to support the restaurant industry. The prices are at least 10-15% more than most sushi bars

   This place is fantastic. Without a doubt, some of the best sushi I have ever had. The ambiance is outstanding, drinks were a hit, and appetizers were to die for. Be sure to visit Katsuya while in LA. If you are at the Hollywood location, ask for Garry (with two Rs), his service is impeccable.

   Food was not brought in at different times. Servers were trying to do their best but they seemed very inexperienced. I’ve been to same location before and I had a better experience so I know they can do better.

    The food is always exceptional, but this time it was the service that really stood out. Our server was attentive, funny and helpful. When we first sat down, we complained about the music that was playing. It was repetitive and way too loud to allow for dining conversation. He asked us what type of music we enjoyed and immediately went over to the sound system control and changed the track. He kept coming by our table afterwards to check on us, not just as to the food, but to confirm that we were still enjoying the background music. He really added to our positive experience.

    I have never yet given a rating for a restaurant. However, I was so disappointed with my experience that I felt that it was necessary. Katsuya used to be my favourite restaurant because of the quality of the food and the wonderful, warm and fun ambience. I would have understood the exorbitant price increases had the food been unbelievable. However it was extremely underwhelming. The selection went from not knowing what to decide because there were so many options to only having a few dishes to choose from because the menu was so reduced. The staff were completely unfriendly. Both the waitress and host did not respond or barely responded to our goodbye. They were not overly pleasant and helped provide one of my most disappointing experiences at one of my most favourite restaurants. I have been to other unbelievable restaurants on this trip (like Il Pastaio and E Baldi) and I feel like I can rely on their quality and service. They made me feel welcome and like they appreciated my patronage. What a shame!

    Give yourself plenty of time. Plan to share or split bills tell the waiter before you place and order. Wait staff was helpful, but never got the split correct.

    Omg! We got amazing recs from our server (shout out to CAM!) and we ended up getting the sushi set and the octopus. The choices were excellent and we ended up going with our server’s suggestion for dessert: mochi donuts! We felt very taken care of and can’t wait to splurge again. Expect to spend $$$.

    You're paying to eat on Hollywood Blvd and a ridiculous dining experience. You know what I don't need at a sushi restaurant? A DJ. Expect to pay at least double what you would pay at a decent LA sushi joint. I wondered about prices before we went because they're not available online. I wondered why we couldn't find any images of the menu with prices either. It's because the prices are printed in tiny yellow font on the menu and nearly impossible to see. Almost every person in the restaurant was using their cell phone flashlight at some point. I ordered the cocktail on special. Five minutes later I was told they were out. The place opened an hour before. How can you be out of the special that early? Also, you can't just make a slightly different cocktail? Were you out of rum?? I was offered sake instead, which was waaaay overpriced. Tried to order mackerel nigiri, only to be told "we're out". The sushi we ordered arrived about 3 minutes after we placed our order. There's no way that could have been cut fresh. Ultimately, we decided this was not a great plan. We left having spent $100 for three orders of nigiri and one spicy tuna roll. Will never return.

    This was the second time I’ve eaten here. A friend recommended Katsuya and I’m glad he did. Absolutely stellar dining experience. The food, the service, the atmosphere is spot on. I had the Shishito Peppers, the Salmon Lemon Roll, the Toro, and splurged on dessert, the Black Forest Cheesecake. All so good and I would recommend each and every one of these dishes. No special occasion, visiting from out of town. I’ll always make an effort to eat here when I visit LA.

    We love Katsu-ya Studio City, so when we had the chance to dine in Hollywood prior to the Pantages, we jumped at Katsuya Hollywood. What a mistake. The menus barely resemble one another, but most glaringly, the prices are 2 times or more that of our favorite Studio City restaurant. We've later come to learn that the two are barely related, by the way, so diner beware. We don't drink but our meal of only about 5 dishes was $250 for the two of us. And we left hungry. The baked crab hand roll (their specialty) was fishy. Their spicy tuna crispy rice was hard and chewy, and tiny in comparison to our favorites elsewhere. Their uber-expensive Wagu beef fried rice was okay, but $60 (it's priced confusingly on the menu). The service was erratic, and mistakenly served our salad last. The "W Hotel" thumping music vibe is not conducive for a relaxing meal. We thought to ourselves, we were DUPED. What a tourist trap ... and poor tourists. Our advice, pick somewhere else!

    This is the second time we have visited Katsuya and it’s the second time we were treated very different from the other guest. My boyfriend and I made a reservation to have dinner together after watching a show at the Pantages Theatre, upon arrival the hoist was very friendly to the group of ladies also coming from the Theater that entered seconds before us when I provided my name I was told to wait and he would get my table when it’s ready. Minutes later he told us our table was ready there was not small talk with us and didn’t even bother to ask us how we were doing, he walked us by several open tables and places in the smallest table in the very back of the room where no other guest were sat. Now this is the second time my boyfriend and I stashed away in a corner where nobody could see us. After we were sat we saw SEVERAL parties get sat in different/ nicer areas of the restaurant. These parties we all parties of two too! Yet nobody was sat where we at. I got so upset I left crying, I couldn’t bring myself to give this terrible business any of our money. Katsuya please change the way you view your guest, just because your guest has blue hair and you think they can’t afford to eat here doesn’t mean you get to treat them less than!!! Training your staff and focus on customer service.
