Kali is a small neighborhood restaurant tucked in between Hollywood and Larchmont village. Created by lifelong friends/co-workers chef Kevin Meehan and Drew Langley, the two have had always dreamed about creating a high-end restaurant without pretension. Stripping away all facades of what fine dining should be, Kali focuses strictly on the ingredient, technique, and service creating a casual environment everyone can enjoy.

Kali is my favorite restaurant. I'm so glad that I can walk there. Not only does the food taste amazing, it looks like a piece of art. And they treat me like family. They always make me feel special.

We dined on a Tuesday night and were the first to enter the restaurant.

My guest joined for the first time and I hadn't been in months. It was such a surprise when the manager immediately welcomed me by name and escorted us to the table. It was less than 20 steps from the host stand to our table, but on the way, even the Chef himself looked up and said "welcome back!" That level of hospitality set the tone.

Food was fantastic. We came for the Uni pasta, which was a hit. The dry-aged squab was beyond exceptional and stole the show thru its accompaniment of mashed potatoes topped with a beef fat sabayon (heavenly). Food was truly exceptional. Wine was abundant, truly generous and well-thought out .

To summarize the meal, everything was truly thoughtful. You can feel the love that goes into this restaurant. It remains one of my favorites in LA.

I know our waiter, Erin, made the food taste better by his warm and excellent service. But honestly, there's a lot to be said for the chef. We all ordered duck- 1 rare, 1 medium plus and 1 well-done. While I'm not so sure the kitchen got the message, the food was DELICIOUS! The homemade rolls are heavenly. Can't wait to goo back!

Both the quality and quantity of food went down from prior visit a few years ago, before it's received the star, while price went up a little. It's still a decent dinning experience but just not the same level as it used to be.

Kali was amazing and exactly what I hoped for when bringing my family to their first Michelin Star. There were a couple of hiccups with service until our second course but it really smoothed out after and was great. Food was phenomenal but the real star of the show were the perfectly coordinating wine pairings. I’ve never had such a well matched drink pairing. It’s outstanding food and service so expect to pay for it and be warned for sticker shock. That said I would absolutely come back and I enjoyed every minute of dinner!

Another incredible meal at this local gem. The squash soup was fantastic with a remarkable presentation. I also has the uni spaghetti. Fantastic!!! I can't wait to go back again.

Unpretentious fine dining. The food is delicious and seasonal. Wonderful service. If you are with just one other person, sitting at the bar is the way to go.

I had initially dined at Kali after reading about their charred avocado salad and black risotto in Los Angeles magazine years ago. I took my friend for her birthday, got both those dishes, thought it was just ok but not memorable (friend got the agnolotti which she loved) so didn't go back until yesterday. Thought I'd give it another shot. We got the burrata salad because of the great reviews. Maybe it was an off day or they were running low on the burrata bc there was barely any under all the almonds and greens. I think it was all of a tablespoonful of cheese. Again, seen some great photos of better portions, so maybe just an off day. My friend asked for some bread bc she likes her cheese with bread but it never came. She ordered the cheeseburger which came rare minus. She's not one to complain so she took a bite but barely swallowed so had to send it back. When they brought it back 10 minutes later it was cooked perfectly medium but the cheese and lettuce was scraped off so at that point it was just the meat and bread. Again, not a complainer so she just ate it. I had the black cod which was again just good, not great. I've had way better pretty much at most other restaurants, esp sushi restaurants. Presentation of dishes are great, ingredients are fresh, but flavor hasn't been special for anything I've tried, and service wasn't great this last time. Might give it one more chance and try a pasta dish or their fried chicken sandwich and maybe a dessert (wan't impressed the last two times, esp with the service the last time, that wasn't interested in trying their dessert.) I have a bunch of other places to try before circling back to this one. It is conveniently located though and parking was super easy.

It took them a while to get us seated and just as long to bring out our food. It took 20 minutes for the bread to come. Our table was cramped in next to another table. The food tasted average and definitely overpriced.

Attempt at creative dishes not always successful. Four recommended starters were mixed; two excellent (pasta, avocado salad), the other two disappointing (barley risotto, another salad). Entrees also mixed: Steak was very good, rack of lamb had more fat than meat which made it very unappetizing, fish was virtually tasteless, sea urchin pasta was very good. Ambiance was minimal with very high sound levels that inhibited conversation. Service, though, was excellent. The surcharge for kitchen staff was a put-off; adjust the prices if you must instead. The prices are so high that no one will notice.

I asked the waitress if they were able to make mocktails, but instead of explaining what they could make, the waitress questioned why I didn't like the limited non-alcoholic drink menu. When I asked if they could make more of a mocktail she spoke over me and told me that I needed to know what I wanted to drink. This was difficult because I don't know what they had behind the bar (for instance, one syrup they had was made with cantaloupe juice...I could never have guessed this...). I was taken by surprise by the waitress's unpleasant attitude about my simple question. It was an extremely uncomfortable and unexpected experience and it set date night off on the wrong note. Having been seated by the bar, we also heard her with other customers and staff and her comments were consistent with how she treated us. Of the tasting menu dishes, there was one standout (the mushroom risotto, which is very good). It's really more like a 5 course tasting menu (instead of 6) because the first "dish" is a small bite. I expect much better service from a Michelin rated restaurant.
