Lobster & Lobster
Our interpretation of the London Chinese restaurant classic - luxurious lobster oil drizzled over poached noodles, shallots & coriander cress and served with lobster cooked in the familiar Cantonese flavours of ginger & spring onions
Hot & Sour Soup
We are particularly proud of our Hot & Sour soup recipe which has the added luxury of fresh scallops, king prawns and chicken. Please let us know if you have tasted a better version elsewhere
Fabulous food in a lovely restaurant. Staff were amazing
I went for my 21st birthday, and the staff were so welcoming and accommodating. As an anxious person, I immediately felt at ease and comfortable, and the staff very kindly brought out a complimentary dessert platter for my birthday. The food was absolutely outstanding and full of flavour, and portions were well-sized- I very much look forward to returning.
(Highly recommend the ginger and sesame oil fried rice!)
Everyone was lovely. From entry they were very helpful and kind. I enjoyed my dinner and my girlfriend had a great ending to her birthday. Thank you for the little birthday cake.
Kai Mayfair is never a fail. Every experience with Kai has been superb. We travel from the Midlands just for evening and it’s worth it.
My family and I have been to Kai twice before and were excited to be going
I had a phone call midday confirming the booking and stating we should arrive on time to assure ourselves of the full experience. We arrived 10 minutes early and was shown to our table. That was the last moment we felt we were in a Michelin star restaurant
Throughout the meal the waitress was checking her watch. Asking could she take and order before we had event been asked did we want an aperitif. We asked could we have the ‘celebrated’ duck course; only with the starter as there was insufficient time for it separately. At 8.45pm she told us the kitchen would be closing so did we want any more food and what did we want for dessert; we were still eating our main course! We asked to speak to the manager who was confrontational and said it was mandated the kitchen closed at 9pm; this is not the case. When I asked why couldn’t they wait to take our order for dessert she stated “there is only once choice left, chocolate dessert”. I challenged why a Michelin star restaurant would only have one choice left - nothing to suggest they though this was unacceptable.
We challenged the bill which was excessive in view of the food - average but not Michelin star quality - and the shoddy service.
Business is challenging right now - I understand that. If you cannot achieve the standards you advertise don’t open
Outstanding food and good recommendations from the staff
The food is insane! Try and get a reservation a few hours before closing because due to COVID 10pm restriction it makes the order slightly rushed. However, that’s simply because of the restriction, the restaurant were fantastic and, again, the food is probably the best I have had in London and I’ve been around to a lot of top restaurants.
The lamb in soy and honey was a dream, and the Chilean seabass was equally sublime. Excellent food. Lovely staff.
Delicious food and excellent service. Our special thanks to Matt our Sommelier who was fantastic!
Fantastic food, absolutely delicious. Intimate quiet setting, excellent service. Grab a table at the bottom if you can in front of the fish tank or beautiful wall.
Waiter demanded to see my Dr letter in the middle of the restaurant to prove legal exemption from face coverings - very humiliating and embarrassing.
We went here for a birthday celebration for my husband's birthday. We were hoping for a Michelin starred asian meal but, although the food was fine, it didn’t really stand up to any michelin starred restaurants we have visited and frankly many without a star. Excepting in price as it was extremely expensive - a stunning £18 for some unremarkable broccoli spears. The staff were pleasant enough but I would say not of the level we have come to expect of michelin restaurants. Also, the cocktails were a real let down. We ordered a Moscow Mule (off menu admittedly but its a fairly standard cocktail) - it really was under par - I couldn't taste any ginger in it at all and in fact I would have guessed it was a mojito if asked. I really wouldn't recommend this restaurant unless you have more money than sense. I would always choose Hakkasan over this restaurant.
They all had masks and everything was perfect food, drinks, service
Incredible experience!!! Loved it
Food was great. A little cramped downstairs (would be nicer to have eaten upstairs), but the food was perfect.
Lovely ambience and decor. Great service. Portion size is tiny. The chicken in black bean sauce was too salty and had no green peppers or onion in it, instead, oddly it contained red chillis. That dish needs to be revised.
....was expecting more but would still recommend.
Delicious! 10/10. It was amazing right from the starters through to the dessert. We ordered from veg menu and it was outstanding!
We are a la carte and felt at least one dish had been served as a smaller set lunch menu; but without mentioning anything, we were given a complimentary glass of champagne and wine, so thought the restaurant service and staff were super vigilant and attentive in a way that made us want to rebook for next week.
Never disappoints, amazing food and service. In my top two of London restaurants.
Food is excellent, it’s shame that staff isn’t the Michelin restaurant quality.
Wonderful food and service
Best all round Chinese meal in London. Wonderful fusion of flavours, faultless service, vibey atmosphere and reasonably priced wine. We will be back soon!
Probably the first Michelin started restaurant where I’ve truly enjoyed every course and felt it was worth the money.
The ambience, decor, service and food was top notch and we really enjoyed our anniversary dinner.
The only negative was that some of the diners were slightly rowdy and by that I mean one table seated opposite use but again that’s not really the restaurants fault and more the patrons who don’t have the etiquettes to dine out in public with manners.
Amazing food and service was very very good! Thank you Kai
It’s was so bad !!!! Food staf atomospher !
I don’t think it’s a real fine dining restaurant
Maybe it’s a kafateria
Fantastic food with attentive service backed by good Covid measures.
Set menu was delicious and very good portions. Staff was friendly and helpful.
This was our 4th visit and enjoyable as ever. Staff were lovely and knowledgeable. Food was first class as to be expected of a Michelin Star restaurant. Prices are on the high side but as to be expected, kept drinks bill down to keep final bill within budget.
The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful and the food was amazing
Pricey but delicious food, worth it! Would highly recommend.
Really excellent and laid back evening out. Such a great choice on the menu.
Quality of food was very good ( loved the creativity ) and as expected of a Michelin star restaurant. Service wasn't. Staff appeared somewhat nervous and not calm which is a reflection of poor training. The toilets were left in a shocking state, messy, and unsanitary which is unacceptable.
The food and staff were absolutely amazing. We would definitely recommend to our friends and family
So happy to have Kai re-open again after many months. The food still absolutely outstanding - the wasabi prawns, beancurd wrap and the chicken with cashew nuts and chilli. The service always friendly, charming and helpful- we can’t fault Kai and can’t wait to return.
Enjoyable and could have picked better from Menu that was our fault not the restaurants. But still very good.
