One of my favorite restaurants in the DC area. I cannot count how many times I have gone for dinner and over the last year I discovered their brunch. Excellent!

Our waiter Shauna was outstanding. Took care of my daughter with her crazy request of a plate of raw carrots. And since it was my wife's birthday they gave her free desert. She had a large piece of carrot cake. Will go back again .

I visit J. Gilberts often. The ambiance is pleasant, the food is good, the noise is modest and they don't rush you out so a lengthy business conversation can occur. On this visit, the fish wasn't quite up to par, but that is an unusual experience here. One long standing complaint: most of the booths have seat covering that is splitting open and the springs are uncomfortable. Such a busy restaurant should be able to afford to repair them.

J Gilbert’s arranged for a wonderful dinner for our wedding anniversary. White table cloth, great service, excellent meal, and even a free dessert to share. Thank you! We will definitely come back and also recommend this restaurant to our friends.

We have usually had good service but for some reason our experience this time was less than favorable. Though the food was good and we were enjoying it, the bus girl wanted to take my plate away before my guests had even finished their meal. Then our actual waitress came by, too my guest's plate....while she was still chewing her food...and didn't even bother to ask is she was finished. This is unacceptable in a nice, upscale restaurant such as J. Gilbert's. Perhaps further training is needed??

We were celebrating new promotions at work for my sister and I and also quality time with our Dad. We had made a reservation but arrived too early for it and they couldn’t seat us. So once I told the manager I was diabetic and needed to eat soon, he was super kind in finding us a table at the bar. Rob took such good care of us despite being super busy the whole time we were there. He was very timely, efficient and overall courteous. He really made it a point to give us great customer service especially since on top of the meals we ate, we ordered food to-go for our significant others at home. We will definitely be back to J.Gilberts and will hope to sit at the bar again, especially with Rob! Until we dine again...

The rack of ribs was terrible. Fatty and tasteless. I have been to this restaurant before and enjoyed the steaks and drinks. I told the server not to box the uneaten rubs because I didn’t want them. A waiter told us a number of previous patrons felt the same but that the manager said others love them. The restaurant took off half of the ribs cost from the bill even though I told them that was not necessary. Excellent place but avoid the rack of ribs.

Horrible service and food presentation. Expected much more at this price point. Go to Applebee’s for a comparable dining experience. Perhaps I shouldn’t insult Applebees this way.

The food was, as always, excellent! The following was ordered: Maryland Crab Bisque, crab cakes, lobster Cobb salad, chocolate cake and seasonal fruit tart. Everything was perfect, and delicious! It was my aunt’s 90 th birthday, she has been a patron for years.....thank you!

This corner, its predecessor & J. Gilbert's now, has been our family's go-to place since forever. On this particular occasion, seated at a table in the bar area, the service was genuine and pleasant in every single aspect. Food on par.

I have loved this place for years. I worked in McLean for years and found it is much easier to get to than a Tyson's Corner place. The steak salad is a deconstructed steak and wedge salad that is super tasty. And the perfect size. When I'm back in town again I will return. Service is friendly and I recognized a waiter from 5 years ago. This shows the staff loves the place too!

Arrived for Happy Hour at 5:10 (4 to 7 is HH.) It was jammed, no seats, tons of people, could hardly get into bar. Thinned out about 6:15. Dinner was fine, but we were seated at a nice cozy corner, (our anniversary dinner); after about 15 minutes, a very bright light came on over our table. Killed the mood. Seems a very large party next door complained it was too dark in their room, so they turned lights on full blast and our table was on that circuit. Food was fine, steak not exactly medium as requested, but waiter was very good. Overall we would go back, just adjust time for HH and won't sit at that "cozy table" again.
Compared to other steak houses, very good value for the money.

They seated us a little before 2pm for Sunday buffet and assured that the food will be provided until 3pm. Most of desserts were gone by 2:30pm and were not refilled.

Except for the uninspired desserts, this was a good dining experience. Tasty, well prepared dishes; great variety; a good value, considering how many fresh oysters we had; and I was able to hear my companion! Wonderful server as well. We’ll do this again!

A fun evening for the family to celebrate several milestones for the grands. Seems we turn to J Gilbert’s when we have a family milestone to celebrate. Food excellent as always. Service excellent as well. I think her name was Joan. Really worked hard to serve 7 people and get all their requests satisfied. Plus she was fun and added to the celebration. The previous Sunday evening my wife and a I ate at J Gilbert’s and had Shirley as our server. She was hoot. Lots of fun. And did great job serving the food. Looked after us well.

Brought my wife here for her birthday. Service was sub par for the price of admission. My wife had to ask twice for lemon for her water and her adult beverage was not well made and needed to be remade.

This is advertised as a steak place so you'd expect them to know the difference between medium and medium rare...well not in my case. I even said to the waiter that I was looking forward to getting it cooked medium rare since they certainly know how to do it right... I must have jinxed myself as the steak definitely came to the table medium. This is a $50 steak!! Had to send it back. To be honest the steak was no better than a steak from Outback. Fortunately my wife's food was delicious accorded to her. Go figure she had a scallops dish and they got that right!

The waiter was very inattentive only checking on us when we flagged her down. Of course I sat waiting while my wife ate...We recieved no compensation for the inconvienience. I won't be back.

This restaurant is a favorite neighborhood gathering place. The bar has friendly and hard working bartenders and the happy hour is one of the best. The Restaurant has a fine menu of steaks and seafood that appeals to most anyone. The house salad is good and the choice of vegetables is good. The desserts are fabulous! Loved the biscuits they served last year much more than the sour dough bread that they have now gone back to for some reason. They tried to tell us that is what customers want but we have surveyed many customers and they say they prefer the biscuits. I guess the sourdough is easily to serve.

As a long term customer, it's time for a refresh at J. Gilbert's, both in terms of ambiance and quality of food. Falling into a tired Applebee's category. Worn out seats, lower quality service, and bland meals. Chicken plate overcooked and without flavor. Inattentive service. I'll give you another chance in a few months but if no evidence of uptick, will move on. Over the recent years, don't recall a meandering manager checking around and asking how things are going. In short, not sure what's going on recently in this established place.
