Ivar's Salmon House
Perfect day. Fantastic view. Fantastic food. Fantanstic service
As usual, Ivars Salmon House was a hit with my out of town guests. Where else can you find a beautiful spot on the lake, and have excellent food that is both delicious and won't break your wallet. Staff is always great, eating outside is a MUST in the summer - and you have not one, but three decks to choose from.
2 of the three people’s entree came incorrectly cooked. Rare when asked for medium well a party adjacent got sick at the table.
Food was excellent. Sockeye salmon was perfect!
This is our go-to restaurant when we want to enjoy delicious fresh fish, whether by ourselves or with out-of-towners. We love the Pacific NW decor, the magnificent view, and of course the delicious food and personable service. We enjoyed the salmon and halibut, both of which were outstanding. Love having this restaurant in the neighborhood!
Ivars salmon house was previously in my top 3 favorites, but it has seriously gone downhill. Cedar plank salmon over cooked, dry and tasted like smoke. Not only couldn’t eat it but made me feel sick to my stomach after two bites. So disappointing
All in all, our experience was excellent. You can’t beat the lovely location and the atmosphere, not to mention the history that goes along with this wonderful restaurant. The service was mediocre. We didn’t get a warm feeling from our server. Very different from the wonderful Kirby in the bar for Happy Hour a few nights ago. Also, the food is not what it once was, with the basic salmon, cheesy potatoes, corn bread and wild blueberry ice cream. That was the best food ever, and so sad it’s no longer being served. But- its still a great location and fun place to go.
Good experience. Good food. Beautiful setting. Sad they charge for bread now though.
Had a reservation but wanted to sit outside, put our names down and were told it would be about 20 minutes. 30 minutes later, went outside to check on the table and was surprised to hear they had forgotten they put our name down. Finally we were seated about 20 minutes after that- 50 minutes past our original reservation time. Had a great meal with great service after that but were rushed to leave due to closing time. Would have loved more time after our meal to relax.
Overpriced for what you get. Salmon was overcooked
Very disappointed in quality of seafood
The food in the dining area was about the same as I expect from the walk-up service counter. The pan fried Oysters were tiny and lacked taste - just breading dominated the taste. The Calamari was much the same, with the following comment. The Calamari I've become accustom to are made from the body of the squid 'rings', not the tips and pieces, thus, again, the breading dominates the taste.
We went for early dinner on a lovely Sunday. Enjoyed the patio seating.
A very good place to go for a special occasion. The menu has a great deal to choose from, too.
The service was in line with the outdoor eating experience, however, the food was cold. Potatoes overcooked, broccoli undercooked and too hard to cut. The soup we ordered was not available and a different flavor was served in its absence. Waiter did bring it out later during the meal, but, too late. Substandard food for 100.00 meal. Service was good.
Wonderful dining and people experience, we will return!
Amazing views. Well kept secret in Seattle and food is stellar. Not a secret to long timers - but probably overlooked by too many. Killer view of lake union
Imagine an expensive Applebees or Macaroni Grill or Outback Steakhouse for seafood. Limited menu, chipper waitstaff. The halibut was dry and overcooked and appetizers were uninspired, although the crab and shrimp starter was good. Ideal place for an office gathering or a place to bring kids or inlaws. Cocktail and wine menu is good and reasonably priced.
I’ve been here twice — service was great the first time and so-so the second time. The restaurant has a beautiful location but could use some improvement on food and drink quality given how much they charge.
On our most recent visit, the halibut was over cooked and dry on all three of our meals, and the soup was spilled on its way to the table leaving poor presentation. The lavender mule was waaaay too sweet. The server had to be reminded to bring butter with the rolls. None of this is egregious, but for how much you pay to eat there, I might expect a little more out of the dining experience.
Tried Ivars and Rockcreek on this Seattle - Ivar needs to up their game a bit
Greeted by hostess promptly and seated immediately. Staff very courteous. Food portions were small but enjoyable. Window tables are very close together so you do hear conversations all around you. Overall it’s a very enjoyable meal and plan to attend in the future.
There were a bunch of flies in the room. Sort of ruined the experience of enjoying the food. Especially for the price of dinner you pay.
The menu continues t change over the years -- now the bread (cornbread muffins) is an extra and doesn't come with the meal. The Salmon is superb -- but the service needs coaxing to be full service to the customer.
For the first time in many visits, our food was just mediocre. Sadly, the restaurant was more than half empty so maybe others have experienced this.
Great Views of downtown Seattle across the lake. Nice lodge feel with character and ambiance. Make sure to get a seat near the window.
What happened? We love Ivar's Salmon House and go for dinner every time we are in Seattle. But this past visit was a disappointment. The vegetable portions were much smaller (I love the potatoes) and the salmon samplers were smaller as well, and seemed overcooked and less flavorful. Were they even fresh? Please assure me that this was an aberration and that Ivar's is not under some new cost-cutting management.
Short vacation in Seattle and Ivar’s is always a good ‘go to’ restaurant with reliable service and good Northwest food.
I love the happy hour options they have all afternoon every day. The seafood is always good.
I was disappointed. For the price the food wasn't that amazing.
I had a plan to go to Washington university and was looking for restaurants. I found it and my choice is good! I ordered clam chowder, fish & chips, and grilled salmons. It is really fresh and tasty! Their food is not salty and I like it. Only bad thing is fish is very small.
Great experience. Really enjoyed some of the best salmon ever tasted. Steamed muscles and clams were superb. Creamy clam chowder was exceptional. Thanks
Took friends from the US Virgin Islands to one of my favorite Seattle locations. Not only did they love the food, they were awed by the ambiance and history on display. Thank you Ivar's Salmon House!
Not recognized by staff as a Birthday
Excellent meal just before we left for the airport. The fish was very well prepared.
This location is lovely. It is clean, food is very nice. It is an above par experience. It doesn’t quite hit the luxury specifically dining mark, but it is quintessential Seattle and the staff does not take that for granted. All in all, I recommend it.
I sat on the patio with a small group on a wonderful weather day. The patio has such a good view of the lake and downtown! Ivar’s food, no matter what location, is just okay compared to other seafood restaurants in town. It’s affordable and quick. Pretty good happy hour prices. You’re really coming for the view of the lake and South Lake Union. I do wish they would get rid of the ugly chain link fence and replace it with a solid plexiglass barrier to make it seem a bit nicer and remove the partial view obstruction :/
We drive about 5 hours each way to eat here (from Mead WA) Normally it's great but they have raised the prices significantly and at our most recent visit my fish and chips got to the table barely luke warm (like it was cooked and sat for a good 15min before it was brought to me) and our Manila clams were SO salty. we have had better experiences in the past, so I wont base our opinion of this place off the one visit but it was definitely disappointing this time and the prices may hinder a future visit
The worst service I think I’ve ever had. Our server, (Van?) greeted us by telling us we had to hurry up and order, to avoid a wait, was rude, curt, and seemed annoyed the whole time, forgot our drinks, and when we asked about them responded, “oh yeah, you ordered drinks, huh?” No apology, no explanation. Told us it was last call for food and drinks 15 minutes after we were seated (even though we had 9:30 reservations, apparently the kitchen closed at 10:00). My mashed potatoes were crusted over, and he said maybe it was because they’d been sitting out on the plate a long time. It was simply the worst, almost comically bad experience ever.
Great food and staff with the best lake view in the City
The view was spectacular. The food was good but I felt like we were rushed to order and leave. The bathrooms were filthy much of that was because people from the dock and others ordering take out can use them.
