Please note this online reservation is for the Robata counter seating.
Amazing food, excellent service, intimate atmosphere. A perfect place!
Not authentic Japanese Izakaya. Too pricy. Disappointed.
Expensive compared to the typical sushi restaurant lunch menu but outstanding quality and worth every penny. Hidden gem.
Great food and prompt service in a stylish atmosphere.
We found Inakaya by chance on a cold winter evening last year. This evening we had theatre tickets for a birthday celebration, remembered our previous good experience, and made a reservation. I checked the box for “birthday,” thinking it was there as a data collection tool. So we were all very surprised when the whole staff brought a birthday dessert and sang Happy Birthday. By the end of the song everyone in the restaurant had joined in, much to the delight of the birthday girl! The food and service were great; I will make this a go-to restaurant for pre-theatre dinners in the future.
The only reason why i'm not giving 5 stars on everything is because we booked regular seats on purpose (for 2), we also changed hour to have standard seats, and when we arrived we've been moved to the counter because "it's standard when we have big parties"...3 minutes later 2 new guests entered the restaurant and seated at regular seats.
Way better options than this place. Food was very average, servers were disinterested and the price was too high for what they delivered
The food, sashimi, service was very good.
Food was good, but this place is too loud. Too much yelling by the staff each time someone enters, it got to be a bit much for me.
Coming here before a play is my new routine
Sushi and sashimi was excellent
Wait staff was friendly and attentive
They really know how to put on a show. The mochi pounding is a spectacle and they did a major presentation for my birthday
sushi fantastico, abbiamo provato 5 tipi di roll differenti, uno più buono dell'altro.....
food is very very good -- great ingredients very well and authentically prepared.
However, the attractive room lends itself to a terrible noise level and there seem to be many
large, rowdy groups.
Though the temp was a bit on the warm side all was pleasant, thank you.
Sushi was amazing!! I loved it very much - so fresh and prepared with such a beautiful artisan display, I wasn't sure if I should eat it or bring it home as a decoration! But it was absolutely delicious.
Great food and great service. It was a very enjoyable dining experience.
Deliciousness and subtly.
This is an excellent restaurant. The atmosphere, the service and food are great. The fish is fresh and there is a variety.
I eat here whenever I am in NYC.
Delicious food, quick and good service. It was all great.
Inakaya was fine. But portion was quite small.
The quality of food, I would give 4 out of 5. It was good but not astonishing.
Side note, I'm little bit picky.
It was dinner and a show from my seat! I was at a seat around the grill and sushi area and watched the fascinating preparation (mounting the whole fish on a skewer over the grill) and delivery to waiters and customers (my perfect grilled seabass fillet included) on long paddles. It was a wonderful and enjoyable evening.
It was a little touristy, definitely too warm. But the food was good. Small portions.
I was disappointed this time. The food was overcooked and the service was very slow.
My husband and I always go to Inakaya for a special dinner. We have never been disappointed. Always amazing!
I love the cleanness of the food. The one reservation that I have is that there is not a flexibility when it comes to certain requests. There is only green tea. There is only white rice. The waiter is polite but when asked if there is another choice, the answer is just, "no". Given the lunch hour, I did not feel well attended to, unlike other times when I came for dinner with a crowd. I would highly recommend the mochi dessert as it is fresh and the black sesame is excellent.
Very nice place if you're looking for a special japanese restaurant in Manhattan. We were there for the NY restaurants week, and quite expensive even though. But the food is really good and top service ! Would have liked a more expressive actions from cookers, but still a pleasant time in our NYC trip.
The staff is very efficient, polite and professional. The food is very nicely presented and prepared very tastefully. Ingredients are fresh. The sake flight was a great way to taste different sakes. There is a nice variety of menu choices as well as beverages.
Inakaya is a really good Japanese restaurant. It is also authentic. I lived near Roppongi for 15 years and this is the real deal. It is very unusual to have Japanese-speaking staff at Japanese restaurants these days. The Rocky Aoki days of Benihana are long gone and Japanese nationals can live better in Japan than in the US. But a good number of Inakaya staff spoke Japanese.
Bad food. Wait staff was horrible. The place is very over priced and not good.
The staffs are super nice, and their recommendations are very delicious. Especially the snapper!! Also, my fav part of my dinner is always the Michu making, very engaging and fun! And food always tastes better when we put in some work :)
The food at Inakaya is wonderful! My daughter loves the Miso Soup, she has several!
All the rolls are so yummy that we always order more! All over experience was terrific!
A nice place. The food is ok. The location is easy to walk to my hotel
Absolutely amazing food!!!
We ate quality robata. The agedashi todu was soft, hot and delicious, the steamed vegetable appetizer was filling and had tremendous value, the meats were properly cooked and the service was quick.
I mentioned we were celebrating a birthday and they came out with a tower of mochi and ice cream with red bean, fruit, whipped cream and a candle on the house. YUM!
We had a great anniversary dinner here. The chefs were wonderful. Our server was not very professional and gave us a lot of misinformation about the menu and the meal. However, this did not ruin our experience at the restaurant. I recommend having an anniversary dinner here because the chef very kindly lead the whole restaurant in celebrating our anniversary with a Japanese chant. We weren’t expecting it and it made our evening. Thank you!
Everything was great!
Not bad for NYC visitors to show around and give a taste of what would be like in Japanese izakaya but how they grill the tiger shrimp was too dried up and oyster was too buttery with too much garlic and couldn’t taste actual flavor of oyster.
Got food sick.
