Located in the charming historic village of Tappan New York, Il Portico has received National Landmark status. Built in the early 1850's, it once served as a stagecoach stop and hotel offering weary travelers accommodations for 3 cents a night! The atmosphere is warm and romantic.
Always wanted to try the restaurant and had a great dinner and experience. We will be back
We dined at this restaurant for the first time based on recommendation from a friend. Overall, the experience was good however the portions were very small.
My wife had a pasta entrée which was $22 and only amounted to a appetizer size at best !!
My entrée which was very delicious but came out of the kitchen lukewarm and had to be sent back to be reheated.
My wife’s entrée was practically done by the time my dish came out, the dinner was not worth $300, we won’t be going back.
One sidenote, on the reservation it said it was our anniversary which it was and no one even acknowledge that.
Il Portico is my favorite place on earth. Great food and great attentions!
Good service. Host was gracious.
Great setting for casual or special occasions. Food was well prepared, delicious and beautifully presented.
Truly enjoyed the overall service, quality of the food and dining experience and will definitely go back.
Another great meal with awesome service. Best Italian food in the county. Owner is always over accommodating and a great host.
Looking forward for next weekend dining there again.
My wife and I have been coming here for over 10 years. The food is always top notch and the owner Pepe is a gem! Always makes you feel like family and has great soccer stories from his time with Pele and the Cosmos. It’s a nice comfortable atmosphere with great service. Would highly recommend for any occasion.
We were looking forward to dining here. I felt kind of rushed and my chicken came out in cooked. Don’t think I’ll be going back
Excellent food and service.
Really enjoyed the visit and food.
Excellent service and food preparation my mother enjoy her 86th birthday thank you very much see you soon
This restaurant is a classic. The historical building and ambiance is beautiful. The food is alway fabulous.
New chef from a restaurant in Sag Harbor is great!
Was a bit disappointed. We’ve been here many times before moving out of state. We were in town for a family function and decided to visit for dinner. Overall, a table of 5 all came to the same conclusion...it wasn’t what we were use to expecting. Not sure if we will revisit in the future.
Service was lacking. We were seating for a while before we were even offered drinks. Waiter never introduced himself as our waiter.
Great service, delicious food, and beautiful atmosphere!
Great food. Great wine. Perfect spot for a great meal.
Very nice. Casual but elegant, excellent food. We'll go there again
Great food great service just a pleasurable experience
Outstanding meal. Friendly and attentive service.
The food was well prepared and was served hot. The Appetizer of calamari and grilled octopus were excellent. Wine list had a good selection and was reasonably priced. We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience and will be back again.
We requested a corner table due to my hearing disability. One was not immediately available. Front end service was not understanding. We had to offered to wait till one was available. The owner was abrupt and blamed open table. It appeared he never read our request and no apology was offered. A missed service recovery opportunity for sure.
Food and table service was excellent.
Had a dinner for four. Grilled octopus appetizer Norwegian Salmon and Chicken Marsala dinners were delicious. Shrimp scampi and Chicken Milanese type dish we’re just ok.. rather blan. Either way, you’ll have plenty of room for dessert! Either way, not enough bang for your bucks. $$$$
Great food attentive service and overall enjoyable experience. Will dine again
The food was excellent and just the right amount. Not too small and not overwhelming. The crab cakes and steamed clams were delicious. Two guests ordered risotto with shrimp. I ordered shrimp with garlic and another guest ordered Salmon. Very nice presentation, excellent taste.
This place is lovely. The food is excellent and so is the presentation. Our waiter was knowledgeable about the menu.
My family and I were at Il Portico for Father's Day. Our meals were very good. The service was great.
Worth the 25 minute drive for us. Our third time here (first time not in winter) and were pleasantly surprised to see the menu change with lighter options as the weather got warmer. An Italian restaurant that mixes in a variety of different dishes - not the stereotypical comfort food found elsewhere/everywhere. Outstanding salads, shrimp dishes, etc. Service was outstanding on a Friday night.
Great food and atmosphere staff was courteous and attentive. Would be five stars but the wine that we ordered from the wine list was not available, and one of the specials that was presented was not available.
Wonderful! Can’t wait to go back.
I love this restaurant!! And the owner!!
Celebrated a family get together Wednesday night at Il Portico. This was not our first visit and we certainly will return. The food was even better than we remember and our servers were lots of fun and on point. We had Octopus,Scallops, Orechiette , and Tagliatelle Bolognese. We
Started with great salads and ended with the two decadent chocolate desserts! Highly recommend and and will most certainly be back!
Food is always great.
Mother’s Day lunch. Delicious food, great service, linen tablecloth & napkins. We felt like we were eating In our home. Lovely experience. Can’t wait to go back.
Consistently well prepared Northern Italian food. Moderately priced wines. Nice presentation. Not very noisy even though it was a Saturday night.
Food was good but a bit pricey. Disappointed in lackluster ambiance which was sterile and cold as opposed to charming and historic exterior.
Really wanted to love this place but the food was incredibly pedestrian. Meatballs were tough and clearly had been reheated more than once. Octopus was inedibly over-salted. Linguine with clams was mediocre and tasteless, though the clams were very fresh. Essentially, I can cook better ‘Italian’ at home, so this was a wasted date night and babysitter money. Very sad.
Have been there many times and never disappointed !
Great food and fantastic service!
